Hollywood typically casts 20-something actors as teens, primarily due to labor laws. The Vampire Diaries was no different, with most of the cast members in their early to mid-20s when the teen drama began. By the time Tvd ended after eight seasons, its actors had aged. Ian Somerhalder was one of the oldest on the show, so how old was he while on The Vampire Diaries?

Somerhalder swooped in as the brooding and impulsive Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries in June 2009. The star was 30 when he began playing a character over a century old. The series finale of a TV show is always full of conflicting emotions. There’s the joy of seeing a story reach a conclusion on its own terms, but it also means saying goodbye to characters and a world you enjoyed experiencing. The Vampire Diaries fans certainly felt that way as the credits rolled on its 171st episode. The series finale, aptly titled “I Was Feeling Epic,” ties together a lot of loose ends but leaves enough unanswered questions for fans to fantasize about the future of certain Mystic Falls residents. Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) ended The Vampire Diaries on a high note, but he also had eyes on his next goal.

We're going back to Mystic Falls High!
Legacies Season 1 Episode 4 focuses on the aftermath of the mysterious disappearance of two students from the school, and Sheriff Matt Donovan turns to the Salvatore School for assistance.
The sneak peek from tonight's episode shows Matt at the school alongside Alaric telling the gifted teenagers about the missing girls and that need to find out the truth.
For Alaric, this means starting up an exchange program between the two schools under the guise of it building bridges between both establishments.
He even goes as far as saying the youngsters have permission to use compulsion to get the answers they require.

There's a dragon in Mystic Falls?
That's the question we can't stop repeating after Legacies Season 1 Episode 2 pulled the ultimate switcheroo on us.
Below, TV Fanatics Celester Mejia, Justin Carreiro, and Paul Dailly discuss the fire-breathing creature, Landon not being the villain, and so much more!
The fire-breathing witch was actually a fire-breathing dragon. React!
Celester: Honestly, that was a great surprise! Not once did I imagine a dragon being a part of the Tvd/To Universe. That said, there had to be someone who saw the dragon when it flew up in the skies. There had to be one!
Justin: Loved it! The dragon was something new that we hadn't seen before, and it really challenged the main characters fighting it. A witch would've been too much of the same-old-same-old.
Paul: I was surprised, but it was a fantastic twist. I agree that I never imagined a dragon appearing...

The Salvatore School for the Young and the Gifted is filled with possibilities.
On Legacies Season 1 Episode 1, the school was changed forever by the arrival of Landon Kirby.
Below, TV Fanatics Justin Carreiro, Celester Mejia, and Paul Dailly discuss the new series.
Is Landon really a supernatural being, or is there another reason why Mg's compulsion didn't work?
Justin: I think he is, but it's probably a new take on the whole supernatural/mortal twist. My guess would be that he's a special human that was born with the ability to overcome the supernatural effects, like vampire abilities, spells or the werewolf bite. It's a guess, and it might be a complete stretch.
However, that would be something new to the Tvd universe.
Celester: When you share the same universe as The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, it's safer to assume that no one's a human.

It’s the question on every Legacies fan’s mind after watching Thursday’s series premiere: What’s the deal with Landon Kirby? Initially introduced as the show’s token human — its Matt Donovan, if you will — Landon was revealed to be some sort of “supernatural being” in the episode’s final moments (R.I.P., everybody on that bus!), launching the CW drama’s first big mystery.
“The ending [of the premiere] is designed to make you really wonder what it is that Landon wants,” series creator Julie Plec tells TVLine. “What secrets is he hiding? And what danger does he represent for this group?...

As someone who is still bitter about how The Originals' series finale played out, I was perfectly prepared to be disappointed by Legacies Season 1 Episode 1, but there was a lot to like about it.
It's crazy that the magic school that opened on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 16 -- the series finale -- is now the setting of the third series in the franchise.
While I expected this new iteration to be all over the place, the premiere was the strongest series premiere on The CW in quite some time.
Two years have passed since Hope lost her mother, father, and uncle. That much loss has understandably had an effect on her life.
She's scared to get close to anyone because she's worried she's going to hurt them or that she'll be upset when someone else does.

The series premiere of The CW’s Legacies took us back to the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted, where three things are required for admission: supernatural powers, a brooding sensibility and, of course, crippling emotional baggage.
Thursday’s debut focused on the school’s two newest arrivals: werewolf Rafael and his foster brother Landon, the latter of whom we met during one of Hope’s many trips to Mystic Falls in The Originals‘ final season. Unlike Rafael, who immediately formed a bond with his fellow ‘wolves, Landon had a slightly more difficult time acclimating to life at...

The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted reopens its doors on Thursday (The CW, 9/8c) with the premiere of Legacies, the third installment in the Vampire Diaries franchise. It’s a return to familiar territory, but as the cast is quick to assure us, there’s plenty of fresh ground left to tread.
Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson, the “tribrid” daughter of Klaus, The Vampire Diaries‘ Big Bad-turned-Big Dad, and Hayley, who sacrificed herself to save Hope’s life in the final season of The Originals. With nowhere to run, she returns to school in Mystic Falls,...

Karen David is headed to Mystic Falls.
Per Deadline, the former Galavant actress has joined Legacies, the spinoff of The Originals and The Vampire Diaries as a witch.
David will take on the role of Emma Tig, a "beautiful witch-turned-guidance counselor" at the Salvatore School for the Young & Gifted.
The report also states that the "person who needs her therapy the most (the headmaster) remains an elusive patient."
The headmaster of the school is none other than Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), who has not had the best time of it ever since we first laid eyes on him back on The Vampire Diaries Season 1.

We already know that the new CW show, Legacies, is a continuation of the stories told in The Vampire Diaries and its first spinoff, The Originals. But how close to home do we get for this new series, which premieres on Oct. 25? According to creator Julie Plec, the answer is very. On Monday, she told journalists at the Television Critics Association's Summer press tour that the new show's prime setting is at a school that's "off old Miller Road, on the edge of Mystic Falls, where the locals think it's a troubled school for rich kids. But inside are a wonderful cast of characters of young supernatural beings."
For those well-initiated with our favorite fictitious Virginia small town, note that there will still be a Miss Mystic Falls pageant and a Founder's Day celebration. Steven R. McQueen will return as Jeremy Gilbert for one episode and Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) is still the town sheriff.

Rob Heaps (Imposters), Zach Roerig (The Vampire Diaries) and Paul Fitzgerald are set as series regulars opposite Willa Fitzgerald, Herizen Guardiola and Marlo Kelly in the USA Network pilot Dare Me, from Universal Cable Productions and Film 44. In addition, Joyful Drake (Let’s Stay Together), Tammy Blanchard, Antonio J. Bell (Nigerian Prince) and Alison Thornton (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce) round out the cast in key recurring roles.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Megan Abbott, who serves as writer and executive producer along with Gina Fattore, Dare Me is an unflinching exploration of volatile female friendships, jealousy, loyalty and the dynamics of power in a small Midwestern town. Peering behind the all-American façade, the series dives into the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading, following the fraught relationship between two best friends after a new coach (Fitzgerald) arrives to bring their team to prominence.

With The Vampire Diaries and The Originals well and truly over, it's time to look forward to Legacies, the third series in the franchise.
The CW has dropped three new images of the upcoming spinoff, and one of them is bringing back all of The Vampire Diaries feels.
Have a look for yourself.
With Matt Davis part of the cast as Alaric Saltzman, it was only a matter of time before he would start to use the training he used on Elena Gilbert all those years ago.
With Hope's power manifesting in crazy ways, it makes sense to have her trained in combat as opposed to using her magical or werewolf abilities to take her enemies down.

Jeremy Gilbert is returning to Mystic Falls!
The Vampire Diaries veteran, Steven R. McQueen has closed a deal to appear on the new spin-off, Legacies, according to TV Line.
He is slated to appear on the third episode of the magic school-set series. Jeremy was last seen in a blink, and you'll miss it moment on the series finale of The Vampire Diaries.
He appeared to be working at the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted. Given that Legacies was a mere idea at that point, there was no indication about whether we'd ever get to see the character again.
Until now.
When The Vampire Diaries kicked off in 2009, Jeremy was a stoner kid who was struggling to cope after his mother and father died after crashing their car before the series kicked off.

The Gilbert family will remain well-represented in Mystic Falls.
Steven R. McQueen, who played Elena’s younger brother/cousin Jeremy on The Vampire Diaries, will appear in the third episode of The CW’s Legacies, the next chapter in the Tvd franchise, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Like most humans living in Mystic Falls, Jeremy was ignorant to the existence of the undead when we met him back in 2009. But as the years progressed, he found himself in bed with them — sometimes literally, as the late Anna Zhu can attest — until he became a hunter midway through Tvd‘s eight-season run.

Legacies is set in Mystic Falls aka the same place The Vampire Diaries was set.
That's why it's only natural to wonder which stars from the original series will show up in the magic school-set spinoff.
During the Legacies panel at San Diego Comic-Con, we learned that a favorite from the original series would be stopping by in the series premiere of Legacies.
The latest actor to sign on for the series is Zach Roerig, who played Matt Donovan for all eight seasons of Tvd. Yes, we're still surprised Matty Blue Eyes survived because he had the worst luck of all the characters.
He will appear on the series premiere, which is slated to air Thursday, October 25th on The CW.

Legacies is the third series set in The Vampire Diaries universe.
As such, some of the characters from the original series will be making their way over to the new iteration.
One person who won't be appearing on the screen is Paul Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore on all eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries.
But that does not mean he won't be part of the series.
At the Legacies panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, we learned that Wesley would be stepping into the director's chair for an episode of Legacies Season 1.
While it would be great to have Wesley appear in front of the camera, it would not make sense. For a start, Stefan sacrificed himself on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 16.
