Welcome to Creators on the Rise, where—in partnership with global creator company Jellysmack—we find and profile breakout creators who are in the midst of extraordinary growth.
And now for something a little different.
If you’re a regular reader of this column (or if you read the headline), you know it’s about up-and-coming creators whose YouTube channels are seeing big spikes of growth in subscriber and view count. Most of them have a couple hundred thousand subscribers and are just starting to hit eight-figure monthly views.
But Jordan Matter, who we talked to for today’s feature, is far beyond those numbers. He’s a well-established creator who started his channel in 2006, now has more than 12.5 million subscribers, and, as of July, brings in more than 300 million views per month.
So why exactly are we featuring the self-proclaimed “oldest guy on YouTube” for a column about creators on the rise?...

Olympic gymnastics duo Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles are besties both on and off the mat, and when it came to Biles' mental health during the Tokyo Olympics, Chiles always had her back. "I supported her as much as I could," Chiles exclusively explained on Aug. 8 during E! News' Daily Pop. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles pulled out of the women's team finals at the Tokyo Games Tuesday morning, paving the way for the Russian Olympic Committee to win the gold medal.
According to USA Gymnastics, Biles dropped out due to an undisclosed medical issue after faltering in the vault competition -- the first event for the American team on Tuesday. "She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions," the organization said in a statement.
Many speculated that Biles' decision to drop was more about her mental health than her physical health. Biles has been vocal in saying that the pressure of being on a global stage like the Olympics has been harder than ever. A few hours later, Biles clarified that her decision was indeed made for the sake of her mental health.

Team USA recently made their grand entrance at the Tokyo Olympics Friday night, but one prominent group of athletes was missing.
Prior to Friday's opening ceremony, gymnast Simone Biles posted a photo on her Instagram Stories of herself and the rest of the team clothed in their official Ralph Lauren uniforms captioned, "Our opening ceremony mix."
The Team USA gymnasts — including Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Grace McCallum, Jade Carey, and MyKayla Skinner — only wore the outfits for the purpose of the group shot.
