The legendary Billy Dee Williams, known for his iconic portrayal of Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars saga, has recently weighed in on Donald Glover’s interpretation of the character. With a career spanning decades, Williams has a deep connection to the roguish character he first brought to life in The Empire Strikes Back. Billy Dee Reflects on His Character Lando Williams has expressed his sentiment towards the character, stating, One thing I liked about playing Lando was that he was a bit dubious. His portrayal has left an indelible mark on the franchise, making Lando a fan-favorite across generations. Yet,

The Last Jedi is already drawing a ton of comparisons to The Empire Strikes Back, from Rey (Daisy Ridley) going off to a remote location to train with a seasoned Jedi (Luke, Mark Hamill), more exposure of General Snoke (same as the Emperor), and an assault from At-at-looking machines. Empire also has the introduction of one of the series’ most beloved characters, Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee... Read More...

The teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped today, filled with glorious images, fantastic John Williams music, and Luke Skywalker actually reciting new dialog! Looking at the trailer, unsurprisingly, a lot of parallels can be drawn between The Last Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back. You have an old Jedi master training a pupil, battles against At-ATs, and rebel bases being destroyed, oh my! There is one element from Empire that is missing tough... Lando Calrissian.
So, I have good news and bad news. I already mentioned the good news, a Last Jedi trailer! The bad news? Well, it was confirmed on Twitter by Eric Davis, managing editor for Fandango, that Billy Dee Willaims will Not be in Star Wars: The Last Jedi:

“In life there are two rules to live by. Number one, never run out of Colt 45. Number two, remember rule number one.” Happy Birthday Billy Dee Williams! It’s bitter sweet writing this birthday message to Billy Dee because of the death of Don Rickles, but respect is obviously going both men’s ways today. At a combined age of 170, you don’t have much more history in Hollywood than Billy Dee Williams and Don Rickles do. To most people Billy Dee Williams is known for his slick and suave Colt 45 commercials and playing the part of Lando Carlrissian in

Almost exactly a month ago, I shared with you this stunning report:
"Lunch: A Star Wars Story- Harrison Ford Meets Alden Ehrenreich Face-to-Face"
And you know Hollywood just looooves sequels, so...here it comes:
Donald Glover and Billy Dee Williams were spotted yesterday having their own lunch, presumably to talk about the former inheriting the iconic role of the latter in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story! Yes, Glover is taking on the role of Lando Calrissian, a character Williams has been the custodian of for over 30 years, even voicing him in animated series and in The Lego Movie!
Here's the photo, tweeted out by a fan, of Glover and Williams having a moment at a restaurant in Los Feliz:
Sooooooo yesterday a certain Mr. Glover and a certain Billy Dee were lunching at my favorite spot in Los Feliz and Um Omg #Lando #starwars pic.twitter.com/8ICWPoinai

Actors will do almost anything to transform into the characters that they play: Orlando Bloom recently went platinum blond for a role, Lucy Hale maintained the same hair color for years of playing Aria Montgomery, and if you’ve seen Will Smith lately, you’ve most likely noticed the wispy ‘stache that’s been gracing his upper lip sans explanation. He shares your concern that this look might be a permanent one – and he explained the reason behind it on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
In an effort of clearing the “caterpillar” in the room, Kimmel asks Smith, “What’s going on with that mustache?...

One of the many cruelties of Joel Schumacher taking over the Batman movie series back in the ’90s is that we never got to see the payoff of Billy Dee Williams’ brief appearance as Harvey Dent in Burton’s 1989 Batman film. As surely everyone with a passing familiarity with Batman stuff knows, Dent is the guy who eventually becomes the iconic villain Two-Face, but since Schumacher’s movies had pretty much no connection to Burton’s, Williams didn’t get a chance to reprise the role when Two-Face was named one of the main villains of 1995’s Batman Forever.
Apparently, though, The Lego Batman Movie is finally going to correct this injustice by having Billy Dee Williams play the Lego version of Two-Face. Sharp-eyed Bat-fans may have predicted this last month, when images of the movie’s tie-in Lego sets included a very Billy Dee-esque version of Two-Face ...

Newly christened Lando Calrissian Donald Glover went on Ellen yesterday to talk up his FX series Atlanta (describing it as “Twin Peaks with rappers”). While there, he and host Ellen Degeneres ended up—inevitably—in a conversation about his high-profile new gig, and especially the expectations that come with it. Specifically, expectations from Glover’s mom, whose immediate reaction to the news was a hearty, “Don’t mess it up!”
“Cause Billy Dee is like—that’s hers,” Glover clarified, referring to Billy Dee Williams, who originated the part of the smooth-talking space hustler. Glover and Degeneres also discussed his own history with the franchise, including the mini-Lando that was his first action figure, and a yearbook photo that’s been going around the internet lately, showing Glover smiling cheerfully in a Star Wars shirt.

Though we expect a flurry of casting news to surface in the coming weeks and months – chief among them being the film’s female lead – excitement for Disney’s Han Solo spinoff is really beginning to take hold now that Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s 2018 adventure has settled on its two principal leads – Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover, who are on board as the young Solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively.
First up, Rules Don’t Apply star Ehrenreich shed some light on the process of auditioning for the part of the galaxy’s greatest smuggler which, according to early reports, was a fairly exhaustive procedure. Speaking with Interview (via ComingSoon), the actor refrained from divulging too much, but did reveal that part and parcel of his screen test involved a scene on the Millennium Falcon itself.
Per Interview:

Donald Glover was recently a guest on Ellen and opened up for the first time about landing the coveted role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars film.
Fans seemed to be incredibly happy about the casting decision, and I have no doubt that he's going to be absolutely awesome in the role. During the interview, he revealed that he's always been a huge Star Wars fan and that his very first toy as a kid was a Lando action figure. He also said his mom told him not to mess it up.
"I told my dad immediately. My mom was in the back, she was like, ‘Don’t mess it up.’ She was like, ‘Don’t mess this up!’ Cause Billy Dee [Williams] is like—that’s hers."
Glover has come a long way since his days of Derrick Comedy and doing stand-up comedy. After Mystery Team...

Looks like Han Solo is getting his running buddy in his spin off film!
It was probably the most legendary casting experience ever. Allegedly somewhere near 3000 actors read for the role of young Han Solo for the Star Wars spinoff film. A role that eventually went to Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar). We know that Lord and Miller will be directing the said spinoff, and that Han will be joined be his lovable and trusty companion, Chewbacca. But we have all speculated who else from the Star Wars lore would be joining him. Would we see Boba Fett? Will we see his new “wife” from the comics? What about Jabba or Greedo? Where could this story go and who will it involve!
Well thanks to a report from The Wrap, we now know one of the characters from Solo’s past that will be joining him, and that is the smooth talking,...

The search for someone to star in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo-centric Star Wars prequel was reportedly very difficult, with every young dude in Hollywood vying for the gig. They eventually settled on Hail Caesar! breakout Alden Ehrenreich, but it sounds like Lucasfilm and Disney may now have stumbled onto another casting decision that could be significantly harder than finding a young Han Solo. That’s because, according to The Wrap, the studios are now looking for someone to play a young Lando Calrissian.
As iconic as Harrison Ford as Han Solo is, the idea of someone other than Billy Dee Williams playing Lando just seems wrong. Williams simply is Lando, and the only reason the audience is willing to give him a chance at redemption in Return Of The Jedi after his betrayal in The Empire Strikes Back is because of how irresistibly smooth Billy Dee...
