Sophia Grace Bronwlee is a mom! "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" star posted an adorable photo on her Instagram of tiny baby hands next to her own, in black and white, simply captioned with the date she gave birth - Feb. 26 - and a white heart emoji.
And who was one of the first to comment on the happy post? Ellen DeGeneres, of course. Could “The Baby-Sitters Club” be making a comeback? The series was canceled by Netflix after two seasons earlier this year in March, and talk has swirled since about the series being shopped for a revival — or at least a TV movie — elsewhere.
But now there’s a bit more momentum for the show: “The Baby-Sitters Club” won two awards at the Children & Family Emmys this weekend, for both outstanding writing for a live action preschool or children’s program and outstanding children’s or family viewing series.
“We’re talking about it in a very preliminary way, talking about if we can bring it somewhere else. Or if we could do maybe like a movie, like kind of a wrap up special,” executive producer Rachel Shukert told Variety. “The girls obviously are older now than they were when we started and they’ve really grown up. After splitting off from the Daytime Emmys, the first-ever Children’s & Family Emmys ceremony is here.
Taking place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 10, the first night of the festivities focused on the creative arts, with trophies doled out for achievements in writing, directing, voice direction, cinematography, editing and more.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the establishment of the Children’s & Family Emmys in late 2021, nodding to recent growth in scope and reach among that programming, which NATAS president and CEO Adam Sharp said could “stand on its own two feet.” Indeed, younger audiences aren’t strictly daytime cable viewers anymore — much of the innovation in children’s and family TV in recent years has happened in streaming. Case in point: Netflix was nominated for more awards than any other platform, beating even Disney+, Disney Channel and Disney Junior combined.

The Baby-Sitters Club is closing down. Netflix will not be ordering a third season of the family comedy-drama series based on the best-selling novels by Ann M. Martin.
The series, which follows the friendship and adventures of seven friends, Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Mary Anne, Dawn, Jessi, and Mallory, as they start their own babysitting business in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, remains one of the best reviewed series on television, with both of its seasons scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Season 2 finale of The Baby-Sitters Club starts out as a sunny half hour about a revived Stoneybrook tradition — the baby parade! — and ends with a tearjerkingly tender decision for one of the girls and her family.
The success of that plot pivot is due to the series’ admirable blending of heart and humor. And most of the heavy lifting in Episode 8 is left to Mark Feuerstein, who, as Kristy’s well-off stepfather Watson, gives a touching speech about how much he’d like to adopt Kristy and her brothers officially after their biological dad lets them down yet again.

Last year’s reboot of Ann M. Martin’s “The Baby-Sitters Club” was a TV highlight, not only for capturing and conveying pure delight but for giving audiences warmth and familiarity during a difficult time. It would have been easy for creator Rachel Shukert to rest on that goodwill. Instead, Season 2 of the Netflix original series is just as heartfelt, fun, and charming as Season 1 while simultaneously growing along with its characters.
In Season 1, the series already laid the foundation by creating the club itself and the central conflicts that would necessitate the club’s impact on its characters. With that being over and done with, Season 2 had two roads to take: Focus on what worked and keep the club in the forefront, or throw the club deep into the background to establish more individualized plots for the various characters. Well, surprise! Shukert and crew capably walk both roads, finding...

The Baby-Sitters Club reboot hit Netflix on July 3, and we're already ready for more. Luckily for us, the series was renewed for season two on Wednesday, and it's set to premiere sometime in 2021.
While Netflix has yet to release any other details, we have a lot of hope for a renewal. In case you weren't aware, by the time The Baby-Sitters Club ceased publication in 2000, there were 213 books in the series. The first season is only 10 episodes long, with each focusing on one of the members of the titular club, which means there's a wealth of untapped potential Netflix can pull from. In fact, the cast of the new series - Sophie Grace (Kristy Thomas), Malia Baker (Mary Anne Spier), Shay Rudolph (Stacey McGill), Momona Tamada (Claudia Kishi), and Xochitl Gomez (Dawn Schafer) - spoke to Popsugar about some of the things they'd like to see in a future season.
