No one can drag Billie Eilish down…unless you’re the weight strapped to her during the photo shoot for her Hit Me Hard and Soft album cover art.
The Grammy-winning singer revealed on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that the photo for her third studio album, released May 17, was in fact “very real” and not photoshopped.
“This was the day after this last Grammys, actually. I had gone to sleep at 7 a.m.,” Eilish recalled of the day she shot the artwork. “I woke up, I dyed my hair black — it was like bright red — I dyed it black that day. Then I went to this random place in Santa Clarita or some nonsense. There’s a tank in this giant place, and it was, like, 10 feet deep. And I popped my little ass in there, and I was in there for six hours.

Their slow-burning, friends-to-lovers romance reaches a heated point in the back of a carriage during that fourth episode — and the pivotal moment is soundtracked by an orchestral version of Pitbull‘s 2011 hit single “Give Me Everything.”

Pitbull reacted on Tuesday to his song’s feature in Bridgerton‘s carriage scene, which hit Netflix along with the first half of season three last week.
“This again shows the world how music is the international language that transcends over boundaries,” Mr. Worldwide wrote on Instagram beneath a clip of the scene.
Netflix’s Bridgerton has featured instrumental covers of hit pop songs since season one. Part 1 of season three included titles from BTS, Nick Jonas, Sia, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and more. In just a few short years, Billie Eilish has demonstrated a keen sense of range that’s far beyond her 22 years, and she’s managed to tap into—and help shape—the cultural zeitgeist more than once, writing anthems for bad guys, Bond, and Barbie. With her exquisite third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, she further cements her status as alt-pop’s happy warrior, keeping one foot in the mainstream and another firmly outside of it.
At just 10 tracks, Hit Me Hard and Soft is both Eilish’s most concise and most ambitious album to date. Throughout, she and her main collaborator, brother Finneas, experiment with song structure and style, examining her celebrity and persona, in ways that are both playful and profound. Packed with multipart songs and self-referential lyrics that reward repeat listens, the album is a world unto itself—and the most fully realized version of Eilish’s sound.

Reviews of Billie Eilish’s extraordinary Hit Me Hard and Soft have, not surprisingly, underscored the singer’s embrace of her bisexuality. Both the 22-year-old’s sense of style and dry, clipped vocal delivery are at times reminiscent of another queer trailblazer, Ani Difranco, whose fierce independence helped carve a path for “outsider pop” artists like Eilish—and who also has a new album out this week.
Unlike Eilish’s latest, Unprecedented Sh!t is less interested in interpersonal relationships than the sociopolitical conditions surrounding them. On “Virus,” Difranco examines her guilt about how Covid affected her (“I was so deeply pleased to pause this life/I think I jinxed the world and caused this strife”) and acknowledges the ways in which we silo ourselves from each other (“I just keep listening to my own voice/In the echo chamber of my choice”).

Billie Eilish’s self-directed “Lunch” music video taps into the same boundless, energetic freedom of the early iPod ad campaigns Apple ran in the early 2000s. In place of black silhouettes and headphone wires, the singer and songwriter dances against white, red, and blue backdrops throughout the technicolor video. The second song on Eilish’s newly-released third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, “Lunch” is an insatiable ode to the singer’s craving-inducing crush.

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
When “Bridgerton” first premiered on Netflix at the end of 2020, one could argue it was received with fascination above all. Though executive producer Shonda Rhimes had already built up a brand with elements that viewers would expect from every TV show that bears her name, this collaboration with creator Chris Van Dusen was taking a lot of big swings in its attempt to adapt Julia Quinn’s beloved romance series.
There was the diverse casting, the idea that it was taking the romance TV genre to the most mainstream platform it has ever had, and that it was a costume drama with a noticeable budget at that, but one innovative piece of its success that goes underwritten is the inclusion of an anachronistic score.

“She’s a little unpredictable,” Finneas says of his sister, Billie Eilish. “I say this with love, but I sit next to her during interviews, and I never know what she’s going to say. I really don’t.” We feel the same way. Eilish recently starred on Rolling Stone’s cover for her third time in just a few years, but she still managed to surprise us, taking Rs on a wild, deep dive into her new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft — her best work yet.

“You don’t wanna know how alone I’ve been,” Billie Eilish sings halfway through her excellent new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. That sums up the paradox of her life in one line — a shy weirdo kid who became a mega-pop star too fast, a romantic who’s never had the luxury of a private love life, a target for misogyny since her mid-teens. At 22, she’s already rewired the way pop is experienced. But she has the power to get the whole world on her side even...

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Reported Runtime Revealed(Photo Credit –IMDb)
Marvel Studios is playing safe with content after facing a downfall after Avengers: Endgame, which is noticeable. This year, there will be only one MCU release, and that is Deadpool & Wolverine, and it has kept us all on the edge. Now, a recent report has revealed the movie’s alleged runtime, and it has already broken the previous two movies’ runtimes. Keep scrolling for more.
Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the Merc with a Mouth, but the biggest attraction is Hugh Jackman’s return as Logan. Also, it is the first time fans are witnessing Hugh donning the comic-accurate yellow and blue costume of Wolverine. Industry analysts are hopeful that it will bring back Marvel’s glory at the box office and hit the billion-dollar mark after Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $1.92 billion collection.

Thelonious “Monk” Ellison is in a rut. He’s still trying to get a publisher to accept his latest book in a market that doesn’t exactly embrace his erudite style. His gig as a college professor lecturing to students that are too “goddamn delicate” to embrace thorny topics of race has him ostracized from colleagues. He’s estranged from family, all of whom are juggling their own issues––health problems, divorce, the financial strain that comes with both. At this year’s Brandcast, YouTube wanted advertisers to know: When it comes to building fan fervor around content, it’s not just a match for traditional TV networks—it’s better.
“The magic of YouTube isn’t just about our scale, or our captivating content, or viral hits,” CEO Neal Mohan told a live audience at the Lincoln Center in New York City. “It’s that we bring everything together in a way you won’t find anywhere else. There’s only one place where you can find a truly unique connection to fans. There’s only one place where you can reach every audience you care about. There’s only one YouTube.”
In this new age of Upfronts-timed Brandcasts, YouTube has always leaned heavily into the numbers. This year, it highlighted how, according to Nielsen, it’s been the #1 most-watched streaming service on living room TVs for 17 months straight–and how,...

If there has been a consistent message from YouTube over the past couple of years, it has been built around its vast ecosystem of creators. More recently, that has been joined by artificial intelligence, with the Google-owned video platform rolling out generative AI tools for creators, and for advertising partners.
So it is no shock that creators and AI were two hot topics of conversation at YouTube’s annual Brandcast upfront event Wednesday evening.
And while there were plenty of other surprises (performances from Billie Eilish and Finneas, and K-pop stars Stray Kids; a deal to stream WNBA games on YouTube TV; and a surprise appearance from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell), the creators, as usual, were the focus of the show.

On May 7, many elite, A-list celebrities descended on the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for the annual Met Gala, the star-studded fashion extravaganza and most important red carpet (this year, green and white) event of the year. Online coverage of the glitzy affair always blankets media coverage as fans pore over each gown’s details.
But this year, dozens of pro-Palestine protesters were arrested a block away while marching toward the event. And for those closely watching the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and Gaza’s harrowing devastation — as the death toll topped 35,000 (many of which are women and children) — the Met affair led some online critics to launch the #Blockout2024 movement, which this week is gaining traction.

It was marketed as a utopia of British entertainment – a £365 million ($460 million) project that would be Europe‘s biggest indoor arena thanks to its 23,500 seats and standing spaces.
But what bosses had hoped to be an impressive display of the U.K.’s commitment to the arts turned out to be a somewhat embarrassing chain of events that saw concerts canceled, part of the ceiling coming apart, and its grand opening delayed.
On Tuesday, they finally did it: Manchester’s Co-op Live had its maiden gig, and around 12,000 people filed in to watch English rock band Elbow (who were originally meant to play the site’s 15th concert).

In the new season, Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges.
As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties, and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go as planned.
From creator and writer Alice Oseman, the eight new episodes are directed by Andy Newbery.
