When a shonen is titled "Chainsaw Man," it's expected of the anime to be as violent and visceral as it ended up being. Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga of the same name, "Chainsaw Man" debuted in the fall anime season to rave reviews, with /Film's own Rafael Motamayor calling it "irreverent, hilarious, and full of exciting and rather gory action." Equal parts hilarious and darkly brutal, the anime translated the striking visuals and concepts of the manga to a stunning level of detail. The English dub cast that brings the characters to life helped to shed new light on the fights in the anime, giving them a crueler, edgier feel when compared to reading them on a page.
As is typical of most Shonen, fight scenes more often than not lead to a large amount of screaming to demonstrate the force of willpower. For "Chainsaw Man," the insanity of...

The fall 2022 anime season was filled with some incredible television -- but one new anime stood out because of the hype and anticipation surrounding it. "Chainsaw Man" debuted its 12-episode first season to great reviews, with /Film's Rafael Motamayor writing that it delivered "energetic animation and stunning visual choices." Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga of the same name, "Chainsaw Man" is a brutal and darkly hilarious shonen that subverts all expectations of the genre. Considering the manga's impressive sales records and the massive popularity of its characters, it's no wonder that expectations were so high.
For the English dub cast of the anime, the pressures that came with bringing "Chainsaw Man" to life were palpable. Featuring the likes of Ryan Colt Levy, Reagan Murdock, and many others, the actors brought all the manic energy of the source material while also providing their spin on the dialogue. "Chainsaw Man" is well on its way to becoming one of the most popular series in the Fall 2022 anime season. Studio Mappa (the studio behind "Attack on Titan" and "Jujutsu Kaisen") has crafted a gory and violent Shonen anime. Part horror and part comedy, "Chainsaw Man" remains wholly unique in the anime landscape. A big part of what makes the series so special is its main character, Denji. A devil hunter who was given the powers of the Chainsaw Devil, Denji can sprout chainsaws from his arms and face (painfully animated to perfection by Mappa) whenever necessary. Just as critical as the kinetic animation is the voice talent that brings the cast of "Chainsaw Man" to life.
Ryan Colt Levy, who voices Denji in the English dub of "Chainsaw Man," is just as exuberant and passionate as the character he plays. Reagan Murdock is as calm and collected as Aki,...
