ESPN has launched a sports betting initiative in 17 states in an attempt to contend with other sports betting services like and its $9 billion U.S. online sports betting monopoly. The sports network, backed by Disney, made a deal earlier in August with Penn Entertainment for a $2 billion deal that rebrands its gambling company Barstool Sportsbook. Existing Barstool accounts will transfer to ESPN Bet. Penn bought Barstool in February from Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy, and the technology behind ESPN Bet comes mostly from Penn’s $2 billion 2021 acquisition of Canadian gaming app theScore, according to the Financial Times. Barstool operates over 40 casinos nationwide, such as the Tropicana and M Resort in Las Vegas, and intends to invest $150 million a year into marketing ESPN Bet. Due to varying gambling laws nationwide, ESPN Bet permits wagers only when users are physically present in a state where the app is licensed for sports betting.

Aryna Sabalenka met with social media personality David Portnoy in Miami during the grand opening of an Italian-inspired restaurant named Casadonna.
Sabalenka was part of the tennis glitterati in attendance, with former Wta No. 1s Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki also part of the invited guests list. After the three Wta stars of the current and past era posed for the cameras, it would emerge that Sabalenka met with David Portnoy.
David Portnoy is a 46-year-old American who owns Barstool Sports, a popular sports and pop-culture blog. He is Sabalenka's biggest cheerleader and even had a front-row seat during one of her matches at this year's US Open.
But because of Portnoy's previous history in which he was accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct in a report by the Business Insider, and some controversial comments on women, many fans rebuffed his fanfare and admiration for Sabalenka and her game.

Just how much did Dave Portnoy pay to buy back Barstool Sports from Penn Entertainment?
According to a new securities filing, Portnoy acquired the sports media brand he founded for just $1.
Of course, there are other pieces to the deal, but the shocking sale price (Penn spent $551 million to acquire Barstool) makes for an interesting end to that relationship. Penn says that it expects to record a loss of between $800 million and $850 million on the deal.
Penn of course announced a deal with ESPN to rebrand its Barstool Sportsbook as ESPN Bet, and will pay ESPN $1.5 billion and $500 million in stock warrants for the privilege.
That meant abandoning the Barstool brand, which it acquired in full just earlier this year (it initially bought a stake in 2020).
“Pursuant to the Barstool Spa, Penn sold 100% of the outstanding shares of Barstool to David Portnoy in exchange for a nominal cash consideration ($1.00 dollar...

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is no stranger to reality TV. She was introduced to households everywhere on the smash reality TV series Jersey Shore at the turn of the last decade, and she’s appeared in countless TV shows since, including the currently-running spinoff series Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. When it comes to The Real Housewives, Snooki has some thoughts about how the stars’ stories are portrayed on screen.

For decades, reality TV has become an increasingly dominant form of televised entertainment. Jersey Shore was a vanguard in many ways, ushering in a new decade of reality TV that saw the genre gain even more popularity.
Many reality shows, however, have been accused of being scripted or containing moments that aren’t actually genuine, going against the label of “reality” TV. For Snooki, The Real Housewives franchise falls into that formula.

Michael Rapaport’s legal battle against Barstool Sports had it all: evidence of a negative test for herpes, a sworn declaration from the actor that he isn’t racist since he’s married to a Black woman, and a photoshopped picture of anal sex.
The fight de-escalated on Monday with both sides dropping their breach of contract claims under an agreement that allows Rapaport to appeal a prior ruling that concluded Barstool and its founder David Portnoy didn’t defame him.
The saga detailed in the suit is befitting of a defamation duel between the bro sports network and the self-proclaimed “king of trash talk.” In 2014, Rapaport launched a podcast called I Am Rapaport on CBS Radio. He went over to Barstool three years later after being recruited by Portnoy. His contract entitled him to 600,000, revenue sharing and a promise that the company...

"There are no rules," Barstool Sports' David Portnoy once said. "I do what I want. When I want. All the time. Those are the only fucking rules that there are at this company.”
Those comments came nearly three years ago in an "emergency press conference" staged by Portnoy, who took Barstool from a blog founded in 2003 and built it into a mini-empire of radio shows, podcasts and digital content. On Jan. 29, Barstool was given a startling valuation. On that day, Portnoy announced that he had sold a 36 percent interest in his bro ...
