Lana Del Rey looked sharp at the 2024 Met Gala.
Fresh off headlining two weekends of Coachella, the “Video Games” singer stepped onto the moss-inspired carpet in a veiled cream Alexander McQueen sheath gown by Seán McGirr, who took inspiration from Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
A haute couture version of a fit-and-flare silhouette from the label’s spring/summer line, Del Rey wore a silk, tulle and georgette corseted dress with hand-embroidered thorny vines that appeared to climb up from her skirt and behind her head. The singer finished the look with a crystal-embellished red rose corsage. The look was a nod to the British fashion house’s “crown of thorns” headpiece from the fall/winter 1996 collection of then-creative director Shaun Leane.
“I’m with Sean [McGirr at] McQueen — Oh god, I hope I don’t poke him,” Del Rey joked on the red carpet, where she stood beside collaborator Kim Kardashian. (The...

Many times in life the anticipation is stronger than the fulfillment.
Few things were more anticipated in recent movie history than “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” On many levels, it did almost live up to the hype: It’s still the number-one domestic box-office hit of all time in the U.S., unadjusted for inflation. Its reviews were overwhelmingly positive. It opened up a whole new era of storytelling for the franchise and deftly balanced the return of beloved characters from the Original Trilogy — Harrison Ford, in particular, delivering the most moving performance he ever gave as Han Solo — while introducing dynamic rising stars. It may have been overly indebted to “A New Hope” and mired in a few too many callbacks, but on the whole, “Force Awakens” was a movie that mined the deep emotion fans have for the franchise while pointing a path forward.

To many listeners, Elvis Presley‘s “Blue Suede Shoes” is a fun, danceable dose of early rock ‘n’ roll. On the other hand, Bob Dylan took the song’s subject matter extremely seriously. He said blue suede shoes have all the answers. That might not be the case, but Elvis’ “Blue Suede Shoes” has inspired many artists who came after him.
Bob Dylan said the shoes from Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ ‘vibrate with life’
In his 2022 book The Philosophy of Modern Song, the “Lay Lady Lay” singer had a lot to say about “Blue Suede Shoes.” He felt there was something sacred about that type of footwear. “They neither move nor speak, yet they vibrate with life, and contain the infinite power of the sun,” he wrote. Dylan may have been alluding to a passage from Psalm 135 that discusses idols being unable to move or speak.

It seemed like Lana Del Rey had the best chance of her entire career to finally win her first Grammy. She had never been nominated more times at a single ceremony than at the 2024 event, and when Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for “Midnights” she went out of her way to praise Del Rey as legendary artist who has paved the way for musicians who have followed her. Alas, while Swift has now collected 14 trophies over the course of her career, Del Rey is now 0-for-11. Check out the complete list of winners here.
Del Rey received five nominations this year: Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album (“Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd“), Song of the Year and Best Alternative Music Performance (“A&W”) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Candy Necklace” with Jon Batiste). Olivia Rodrigo showed off her stunning vocals on a blood-soaked stage for her 2024 Grammys performance of “vampire” from her newest album, Guts.
The artist kicked off the performance simply standing on the stage with a mic as she began her rendition, but over the course of the song, she began to have blood on her face. By the end of the performance, the blue backdrop transformed into one with blood dripping down it.
The singer-songwriter returned to the 2024 Grammys with nominations for record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance for “Vampire,” as well as album of the year and best pop vocal album for Guts.

Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley manage to inspire celebrities to this day. For several different reasons, some fans see Lana Del Rey as Priscilla’s modern equivalent. Here’s why that’s the case — and why Del Rey didn’t write a tune for the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.
Lana Del Rey wasn’t able to pen a song for ‘Priscilla’
Del Rey’s haircuts and outfits from her early career are very reminiscent of Priscilla’s style from the 1960s. On top of that, Del Rey has referenced the “Blue Suede Shoes” singer throughout her career. For example, her songs “Million Dollar Man,” “American,” and “Body Electric” all allude to Elvis or his songs, while Elvis is a character in Del Rey’s Tropico alongside Adam, Eve, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary. Del Rey’s “The Greatest” also has some instrumental similarities with “Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Lana Del Rey plans to release a country album called Lasso in September.
The singer-songwriter shared the news during a Billboard-hosted pre-Grammys event, where she was on hand to honor producer Jack Antonoff.
”If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We’re going country. It’s happening,” Del Rey said. “That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”
Del Rey previously teased the album by uploading a snippet of new music to Instagram last month. “Last call, hey ya, hang his hat up on a wall / Tell him that his cowgirl is gone (come on and giddy up),” she sings on the untitled song. She also recently released a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Lana Del Rey and Tyler the Creator are among the acts set to headline Coachella in 2024, according to a report from music industry trade HitsDailyDouble.
HitsDailyDouble further reports that Doja Cat and Peso Pluma are also in talks to perform at the festival, while Dua Lipa passed on a headlining slot due to timing issues.

Sometimes, modern music has fascinating parallels with classic rock. Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful” helped catapult her into the mainstream. Elvis Presley released a song with the same name decades beforehand. While the two songs are both ballads, they have major differences.
‘Young and Beautiful’ singer Lana Del Rey has paid homage to Elvis Presley many times
Del Rey has repeatedly referenced Elvis in her work. The “All Shook Up” singer is a character in her short film Tropico alongside fellow 1950s icons John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe. Del Rey also quoted the lyrics of “Blue Suede Shoes” in her single “Million Dollar Man.” She even put out a song called “Elvis!”

Lana Del Rey‘s birthday is June 21st, which puts her in some disputed territory when it comes to astrological signs. Turns out, the constellations have even befuddled our patron saint of melancholic pop, who revealed in a new video interview with Harper’s Bazaar that she lived much of her life as an unshakeable Gemini before eventually making the shocking discovery that she is, in fact, a Cancer.
“I lived my life as a Gemini,” Del Rey said. “It’s insane. And then I found out that I was four hours short. I threw out all my 14-karat gold twin Gemini pendants.”
According to the singer, she’s a Cancer sun, while her moon is in Leo and her ascendant/rising sign is Scorpio — which, according to Consequence staff’s most astrologically savvy, is the perfect poison for someone who is very famous for making very gloomy music.

Listen to the prechorus of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” and you’ll hear a bit of The Beatles‘ “And I Love Her.” It might be blasphemy to say this, but Del Rey’s redux of “And I Love Her” might sound better. Fascinatingly, Paul McCartney said “And I Love Her” was his first impressive ballad.
Lana Del Rey’s ‘West Coast’ reuses a riff from The Beatles’ ‘And I Love Her’
According to Grantland, “West Coast” interpolates the riff from The Beatles’ “And I Love Her.” Listening to both tunes side-by-side, it’s impossible not to notice the similarity. Of course, the main difference between the two songs is the tone.

Bleachers have announced their upcoming fourth studio album, Bleachers, out March 8th via Dirty Hit. As the latest preview, Jack Antonoff’s band has shared the new single, “Alma Mater,” featuring vocals from his frequent collaborator Lana Del Rey.
Spanning 14 tracks, Bleachers is described in a press release as “Antonoff’s distinctly New Jersey take on the bizarre sensory contradictions of modern life, on his position in culture, and on the things he cares about.” It’s also said to be the perfect music for “driving on the highway to, for crying to, and for dancing to at weddings.”
Indeed, “Alma Mater” features Antonoff’s signature ’80s sound and nostalgic lyrics, with Del Rey providing backing vocals for lines like, “Well, summer’s gettin’ hotter/ Threw her T-shirt down the pike/ Screamin’, ‘Fuck Balenciaga’/ Right past the Wawa.” Stream the track below.

Earlier this year, Rolling Stone revealed that the tunnel in Lana Del Rey’s soul-searching album Did You Know There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is a real place. Now, the abandoned Jergins Tunnel in Long Beach, California is scheduled to be converted into a bona fide speakeasy.
City and business leaders announced Monday that the Hard Rock Hotel will be arriving to the coastal downtown in 2027, according to Long Beach Business Journal, at the vacant site of the former Jergins Trust Building on the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Pine Avenue.

Hollywood director Sofia Coppola has revealed that singer Lana Del Rey was nearly featured on the soundtrack of the biopic ‘Priscilla’. In an interview with E! News, the filmmaker said, “We were hoping she could do a song for it, but it didn’t work out with the timing.”

Leading up to the Grammy nominations on Nov. 10, Rolling Stone is breaking down 16 different categories. For each, we’re predicting the nominees, as well as who will (and who should) win on Grammy night.
You might think that Taylor Swift would dominate in this category, but she has just one win out of four nominations. It’s likely that voters think of Swift as so strong in the general fields that they don’t mark their ballot for her here. Miley Cyrus has a good shot, but her smash hit...

Born on June 21, 1985, as Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, the world, however, came to know her as the sultry, vintage-vibed singer Lana Del Rey. She makes melancholic tunes, has a hypnotic voice, and carries a real-life aesthetic that you only see in Wes Anderson films otherwise. However, beyond the haunting melodies and cinematic music videos, there’s much more to Del Rey than meets the eye. Those who think moving to New York at the age of 18 to study Metaphysics at Fordham University is the most interesting thing about this singer, might want to check out the eight lesser-known facts...

October marks the start of spooky season, but really 2023 has brought the scares since last winter. It was difficult to narrow down the year’s best horror into just 10 books—and we stopped just short of Halloween, which conveniently coincides with several more creepy book releases including Nat Cassidy’s Nestlings—but these eerie selections sum up how horror has outdone itself so far this year.

With the Joan Baez documentary opening to a wider release this weekend, the legendary folk singer was joined by self-proclaimed acolyte Lana Del Rey at a screening for I Am a Noise Friday at Los Angeles’ Nuart Theatre for a conversation about the film and Baez’ legacy.
“The emotion you portray when you were 18 and now throughout the film is so relatable that it’s just been massively acclaimed already,” Del Rey said to Baez — who she called “the toughest woman I have ever met” and a “lioness” — in her opening comments.

Lana Del Rey apparently had some spare time the other day, which she used to hit back at a Christian influencer accusing her of witchcraft.
Traci Coston recently posted a video captioned “Demonic Energy Knocks Over Lana Del Rey Crowd” laying out the accusations. In the clip, the influencer showed footage of fans being knocked over at one of Del Rey’s concerts — likely an August show in Mexico — and attributed it to witchcraft, which Coston claimed the artist has been “open” about practicing.
After saying the chain reaction was “not normal,” Coston continued, “Whatever witchcraft Lana Del Rey is doing, the spell she’s putting on her music to make it attractive, those demons are being invited into the crowd and into you when you attend.” Watch the clip below.
It appears that Coston has since turned off and deleted comments on her post, but not before Stereogum spotted the response from Del Rey,...

Lana Del Rey says she donated ticket sales from her latest US tour “back into” the cities she played.
“I just wanted to say thank you to you and just every city I’ve gone to before this… every ticket, every dollar, it is poured right back into the city,” the pop singer announced during the tour’s finale in Charleston, West Virginia.
“It’s not about [the money] for me,” Del Rey added. “I know that sounds cheesy, but I tour because I love it… I don’t need to. I just love it, and we’re all about the places we’ve been to.”

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
Ahsoka has wasted no time introducing fans to all kinds of new lore and corners of the Star Wars universe. From bringing Grand Admiral Thrawn to live action for the first time to an extragalactic adventure to the homeworld of the Nightsisters, Ahsoka is taking us where no other live action Star Wars project has gone before.
Then there’s the show’s surprising new take on Imperial stormtroopers, specifically the gold-accented Night Troopers serving Lars Mikkelsen’s Thrawn on Peridia. Presumably, these are the same troopers who were stationed in Thrawn’s fleet when Ezra had them all zapped by purrgil to parts unknown at the end of Rebels, and it’s clear they’ve fallen on some hard times in the decade since.

Jack Antonoff and Bleachers are back with a new song, “Modern Girl,” marking their first new song since 2021.
The track is quintessential Bleachers, with its distinctly 21st century, anxious energy paired with heart-on-sleeve E Street nostalgia. There are gang vocals on the chorus, tributes to New Jersey, a little glockenspiel, self-referential band shout-outs, and you better believe the bridge is an instrumental breakdown and rave-up filled with “woah-oh-oh”’s and dueling saxophones.
“Modern Girl” also arrives with a music video, directed by Alex Lockett, which captures a boisterous performance from the band.

Of all the incredible things Lana Del Rey has given us this year — an excellent album, her first concerts in over three years, even more “Snow on the Beach” — her greatest (if not inadvertent) gift might’ve been a brief, unofficial stint working at a Waffle House in Florence, Alabama.

Lana Del Rey never intended to punch in for a quickie Waffle House shift. But after seven days of seeing the same faces during a visit to Florence, Alabama, and a July morning’s worth of shooting the shit with her brother and sister in the same plastic booth, the singer-songwriter found herself wearing the Southern chain’s familiar uniform: a polycotton, working-class blue button-up garnished with a name tag bearing the crudely stickered letters L-a-n-a.
“We were on our third hour, and the servers asked, ‘Do you guys want shirts?’ ” she says. “Hell yeah! We were thrilled.”
The resulting video didn’t last 10 seconds. But after the restaurant’s manager posted the clip to Facebook and a few fan selfies featuring Del Rey in uniform popped up on the usual platforms, a narrative took hold. Lana Del Rey, Grammy-nominated artist who has sold 12.3 million albums, was working at Waffle House.
