In March 2017, filmmaker Sal Bardo started noticing something strange: the views for his short film Sam, which tells the story of a transgender child, had started dipping. Confused, he looked at the other videos on his channel. All but one of them had been placed in restricted mode — an optional mode that screens “potentially mature” content — without YouTube informing him. A few years after they started their channel, Bria Kam and Chrissy Chambers, also known as BriaAndChrissy, got the email saying they were verified. They remember that moment in 2014 well. Chrissy Chambers, a YouTube creator and musician -- who headlines the Bria And Chrissy channel (760,000 subscribers) with her fiancee, Bria Kam -- just scored a major legal victory in a first-of-its-kind U.K. revenge pornography civil lawsuit.
The U.K. High Court ruled yesterday that Chambers receive an undisclosed sum in damages from her British ex-boyfriend, who shared six videos of the couple having sex on a handful of free-to-watch websites. He will also cover all of Chambers’ legal costs. (Chambers’ lawyer said that the overall payment was “substantial”). To celebrate her win, Chambers proposed to Kam on the courthouse steps, whereupon she promptly accepted. "To every victim of this insidious kind of attack, I am here to say: you can fight back, and win. You will heal and move on -- and you will not have to take those steps alone,” Chambers said after the ruling, per the BBC.
