David Vallee

David Vallee is best know to television audiences as one of the starring wedding planners on one of Canada's most successful television exports, Rich Bride, Poor Bride but he is so much more than a reality TV star. Trained as a classical musician, he studies acting Queen's, he has had a diverse career as an event producers, writer, talking head, restaurateur, political activist, philanthropist and professional political adviser.
David's first professional paying gig in the arts was as a pianist, organist and singer, starting when he was 14. In 1984, David received the Rotary International Youth Exchange Scholarship when he was 16 and moved to Sweden to study music, theatre and languages. He received a special citation from the head master of the acclaimed Vasa Skolan for his contribution to the schools arts and for fostering international understanding. He appeared as the lead in several musical review shows with both classical and contemporary works as well as two major productions.
David attended Queen's University at Kingston where he studies drama, film, politics and history. He was cast in a leading role in his freshman year with The Queen's Players, a nationally celebrated campus wide cabaret group. He starred in numerous roles within the drama department and with independent student productions. A founding member of the Cinema Criminals (1989,) an independent student theatre group, David starred in a critically acclaimed production of The Investigation by Peter Weiss. He was the executive producer of the groups next project, Whose Afraid of the Celluloid Saviour?
While at Queen's, David was the publicist for the Caravan Stage Company's 1988 tour from Ottawa to upstate New York. In this capacity, he made countless local and national radio and television appearances.
After university, David did some minor theatre and film work, but largely focused on politics both as an activist and a professional and his work as an award winning event planner. He was the founding president of the Shefford Heritage Housing Co-operative in Ottawa in 1992. In 1993, he moved to Toronto and opened Fabulous Nobodies - a bistro cabaret space in the heart of the gay village in Toronto. As the clubs producer, he did shows that included legendary gay comic actor Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall) gay theatre icon actor, director and playwright Sky Gilbert (founding artistic director Buddies in Bad Times Theatre) singer actor Jennie Burke, Gavin Hope of The Nylons, The Bitch Diva among many others. Fabulous Nobodies hosted major parties for the Toronto International Film Festival as well as many parties for the media industry with guest lists that included many A list celebrities.
As an activist and as a paid promoter, David has made literally hundreds of appearances on television, radio and in the digital media.
In 2004, David started David Vallee Entertains, a catering, event planning, lifestyle brand. His worked on major charity fund-raising events such as Bloor Street Entertains (CANFAR), Toronto the Good, The Walrus Gala, The CCLA Awards among many others. For private and corporate clients, David built events that told stories.
In the fall of 2005, David Vallee was the last person to be cast in the inaugural season of Rich Bride, Poor Bride. Despite the late arrival, David was given 5 episodes, the highest number, tied with his dear co-star and dear friend Angelique Sobschak. His
As production for season two started, David was diagnosed with Stage Four Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. As a result David was only able to do one episode of the show in seasons two and three.. He documented the trials and tribulations of his year of chemo and recovery with two feature stories on Entertainment Tonight Canada.
By Season Four, David resumed his role as one of the leads on the show. The last season of the show aired in 2011. In season six, the first episode, Liz and Phil, starred David and he helped produce the trip cast and crew made to Nassau, Bahamas. The series finale, was also David's.
David used his extensive contacts in the media to heavily promote Rich Bride, Poor Bride. If you go to his website, davidvallee.ca you can see some of this work. He also works as a paid promoter, emcees many numerous events. He also does some motivational speaking related to his health struggles with cancer and Crohn's Disease.
David Vallee is finishing a memoir. He is several television projects in the infancy stage that are ready to launch now that the book is almost finished. He is also very open to being cast in narrative drama, reality television and theatre. "Just no wedding shows please, unless they are disruptors."
