Tokyo – As the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) roars back into life this year after two years of going hybrid, it brings along with it the jejune of milestones and the dim realities that have beleaguered the Japanese film industry, pre- and during the pandemic.
In one of the festival’s most notable highlights, Japanese director Koji Fukada and Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu were accorded the 2022 Kurosawa Akira Award on Oct. 29, the re-emergence of which after 14 years could not have come at a more critical time according to Hiroyasu Ando, chairman of this year’s filmfest.
“A family member of Kurosawa told me that justice and humanity have been the underlying common themes of his films,” Ando said during the awarding ceremony. Looking at the world now, the former diplomat-turned TIFF head said that these are the very same things we currently “need the most.” “The rebirth...

Japan has made online insults punishable by up to a year in prison in an effort to combat cyberbullying. Moves to amend the country’s penal code gained momentum after Hana Kimura, a 22-year-old professional wrestler and breakout star of Netflix’s hit reality show Terrace House, died by suicide in 2020 after receiving a wave of hateful messages on social media.
Lawmakers approved the changes to Japan’s penal code earlier this week, lifting the maximum penalty for the crime of “insulation” to one year in prison and 300,000 yen (2,250) from the prior level of 30 days detention and 10,000 yen (75). The statute of limitations on prosecution was also increased from one year to three. The changes will come into effect in July.
Kimura’s death brought the issue of cyberbullying to greater attention in Japan due to the highly visible and toxic nature of the abuse she had experienced.

Welcome to this review of All Elite Wrestling: Double Or Nothing, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we lost Hana Kimura, Shad Gaspard and Larry Csonka. Shad and Larry have GoFundMe pages you can donate to here and here. When I was Pam Grier, my sweet, black ass always loved to watch half-naked people grab each other real hard and I’m doing that now as Double Or Nothing begins…now.
Match #1: Best Friends defeated Private Party
My Opinion: 3.4 out of 5 – This was a sparkly match. Sparkly is the word I’m sticking with…sparkly out the ass. While no Steiners/Road Warriors clash of maniacs frenzy, this was an encouraging sign for Aew’s tag division, as Pp did better than they have in the past, while the BFs line-danced their way to the win.
Match #2: Brian Cage defeated Darby Allin, Colt Cabana, Orange Cassidy,...

Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Stardom wrestler Hana Kimura committed suicide, because a bunch of jack-asses went on the internet and told her she was a piece of s— for knocking some guy’s hat of his head for shrinking her wrestling gear in the wash. What a lousy week. Additionally, both Shad Gaspard and Larry Csonka (who died this recently) have GoFundMe campaigns available here and here. Internet nerds piss me off when they act like pricks and here comes some cruiserweight wrestling.

Welcome to this week’s Ring of Honor television review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a lots of great action, with Martha Stewart destroying Cybil Shephard’s career and Edward Norton lamenting not having Bruce Willis’s bank account, as well a special message from Christopher Walken! Let’s jump into the Ring of Honor!
Match #1: Kushida beat Johnathan Gresham
This was as exciting an opening match as you’ll get in this day and age. These two were like watching a mirror clash with itself, as these two have an offensive strategy that is nearly identical. The wrestling here was very well paced and a stark contrast from a lot of what Ring of Honor usually books. The big surprise here is that a tremendous amount of the match is on the mat, with numerous holds flowing into great locks that helped set the right tone.

Welcome to this review of Ring of Honor’s Best in the World 2018 pay per view! I’m Nathan Favel and I say we don’t waste any time with pleasantries. Here comes the action!
Match #1: The Kingdom beat Los Ingornerbales de Japon – Ring of Honor Six-Man Titles Match
This was a solid opener with lots of action. Both teams looked good here, with Taven functioning very well as the leader of his team. Taven really has come a long way since he first arrived in Ring of Honor. Lidj is consistently entertaining and did not break that streak here. Taven got the pin off of Bushi for the win and the title retention.
Match #2: Flip Gordon versus Bully Ray
Ray disqualified himself after losing several attempts at finishing Gordon, who was ahouse of fire tonight. Several people, such as Eli Isom, Cheeseburger and Colt Cabana, who was on announcing duties tonight,...

Best in the World is the next pay-per-view from Ring of Honor, taking place at the Umbc Event Center in Catonsville, Maryland on June 29th 2018. The event marks the the ninth annual Roh Best in the World PPV and wrestlers from New Japan Pro-Wrestling (Njpw), and Japanese women’s promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom – with whom Roh has partnerships – will also appear on the card – with the pay per view airing this Friday, I thought I’d bring you my brief predictions of each match of the night:
1. Jay Lethal vs. Kushida
This is guilt-free wrestling. I bet this goes on first, just to give every-one a great fight to start the night. I can’t see this as being a failure. Prepare for fast action with lots of mat work in the match’s first act. I’m going with Lethal for the win to further the redemption angle...
