Monday night’s “American Idol” elimination round lowered the number of contestants left on the show to just 10, but raised the level of emotions to 100.
Mara Justine and Compton resident Marcio Donaldson were sent home, as were country singer Garrett Jacobs and Johnny Brenns, who made his first official stage appearance as a musician on the show. While none of the contestants were happy to leave, it’s safe to say there were no sore losers during this round.
Justine showed her poise and maturity when she said after the show, “I feel good. What a blessing it is to be here – to have made it this far. I never would have imagined something like this in my whole entire life.”
Donaldson echoed the sentiment, “Top 14 out of 300,000. When you think about that, it’s only gonna be one winner at the end of the day, if you take it...

Singer Colbie Caillat might not have felt so "Bubbly" after she auditioned for American Idol. The 32-year-old singer actually tried out for the reality competition twice during its Fox run… but you can be forgiven if you don't remember seeing her on camera. As Colbie reiterated in the ABC revivals April 16 episode, she was axed at the pre-audition stage and didn't even get to sing for the judges! "I was in the auditions that you are outside with thousands of people," Colbie told Today in 2011 (per the Daily News). "You sleep on the street." On her second tryout, she even performed "Bubbly," her Platinum-certified debut single. But she doesn't hold a grudge against Idol, it seems. In an interview with USA Today (per Rolling Stone), she said she understands why she got the boot: "I was shy. I was nervous. I didn't look the greatest. I wasn't ready for it yet.

When Katy Perry removed her earrings, all bets were off. The superstar “American Idol” judge was not happy that drag queen Ada Vox failed to earn America’s vote on Monday’s results show, so she took it upon herself to make things right. “I think we do know talent when we see it,” said a defiant Katy as her co-judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie nodded in approval. “So I would say, we would like to make an executive decision right now. Ada? You get that seat, baby,” Katy declared, referring to one of the open chairs in the Top 10. Watch the viral moment above.

The first cuts made by voters on Monday night’s (April 23) “American Idol” were the deepest — and most shocking — as the Top 14 was pared to 10, with six singers sailing to safety and eight left to perform for the judges’ wildcard pick.
The brand new “American Idol” stage — which looks fabulous and massive in scale — is divided into two areas with six chairs designated for safety and eight in the “danger zone,” explained host Ryan Seacrest. Next week it is going to be even more interesting, as Seacrest revealed the show is making reality history by allowing all 50 states to vote in real time next Sunday for its Disney-themed night with Idina Menzel. Despite the new surroundings, Seacrest looked comfortable in familiar territory as he revealed the fate of each singer.
First through was Maddie Poppe, who impressed with her glistening interpretation of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound” the night before.

The Monday April 23 episode of the ABC revival of “American Idol” saw the Top 14 reduced to the Top 10. The other eight contestants were told by host Ryan Seacrest that the three judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie — would choose just four of them to move forward in the competition based on the songs that they sung on Monday’s show. Sunday night during the Top 14 performance episode of “American Idol,” 28-year-old Marcio Donaldson sang Barry Manilow‘s “It’s a Miracle” for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Nearly one hour into “American Idol,” judge Katy Perry nearly gave up waiting for someone to “start the show.” Then Ada Vox (pictured) stepped up to the microphone. Dramatically standing center stage and channeling her inner Freddie Mercury with power and conviction over a, perhaps, overzealous band, some notes may have sounded strained but the emotion made it work.
“I was waiting for someone to show up,” said Perry.
Added Lionel Richie: “You have no idea how fabulous you are… you came here tonight to stop the show.”
Vox was certainly looking like the one to beat, and her story of surviving brain surgery added another dimension to the impressive performance of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.” That was, until the second half of Sunday night’s (April 22) show.
Following Vox, several singers in the top 14 brought it until the episode ended in spectacular fashion with Gabby Barrett,...

‘American Idol’ recap: Top 14 sing for America’s votes on Night 13 of Season 16 [Updating Live Blog]
Six weeks after the revival of “American Idol” hosted by Ryan Seacrest began on ABC, America finally gets a chance to vote as the Top 14 take to the stage on the April 22 episode. These finalists survived a grueling process that began with winning over the three judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie — at a regional audition and getting a ticket to Hollywood.
A whopping 169 would-be winners made the trip to La La Land, before being cut to 50. That group then competed both individually and in groups before the judges decided on the Top 24. Those two dozen artists were then asked to sing both solo and in duets with celebrities and convince the three judges that they deserved a place in the Top 14.

If “American Idol” finalist Mara Justine looks familiar, it’s because she previously auditioned for rival reality TV show “America’s Got Talent.” Back in the ninth season of “Agt” in 2014, Mara was only 11 years old but she still wowed judges Howie Mandel, Howard Stern, Mel B and Heidi Klum with her booming voice. As someone who [A] willingly watched Glee until the bitter end, and has seen Wicked enough times that I’ve started wondering what the Wicked Witch’s talking-goat teacher does after hours, I was embarrassingly excited for Monday’s American Idol.
Sure, I was curious to find out which singers would snag the final seven open spots in this season’s Top 14 — but not nearly as curious as I was to see just how thoroughly Ada Vox would nail “Defying Gravity” alongside Rachel Berry herself, Lea Michele. Honestly, it’s the kind of once-in-a-blue-moon event that gay prophets have been documenting...

This is how Luke Bryan rolls! The country singer — who has been married to his wife Caroline Boyer since 2006 — decided to crash a wedding in Savannah, Ga on Sunday night's episode of American Idol. Luke told the cameras, "We just did a day of auditions and we found out that like, two minutes away, there's a real, live wedding happening... We heard that they're big fans of mine so we're going to go have some fun and crash a real wedding, real quick." While the wedding guests were incredibly confused to see Luke stroll in, he quickly became the center of attention. Not only did he start popping bottles of champagne on the dance floor, but also gave a toast to the newlyweds that, unfortunately, didn't make it on air. Instead, viewers watched him give an impromptu performance of his hit track, "Country Girl," after the DJ started playing the song.
