Berlin, Sep 3 (Ians) Mathys Tel’s late winner helped Bayern Munich secure its third straight victory after beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 in the third round of Bundesliga.
The German record champions took the reins from the start whereas Monchengladbach implemented a wait-and-see strategy and lurked for counterattacks.
Bayern came close through Leon Goretzka, who tested Monchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas with a header in the third minute while Sane pulled narrowly wide in the 19th minute.
Monchengladbach posed threat on fast breaks as Marvin Friedrich rattled the woodwork before Maximilian Wober flicked on a corner that allowed Ko Itakura to head home the 1-0 lead on the half hour mark.
The visitors had the opportunity to double their lead, but Sven Ulreich denied Julian Weigl’s low shot two minutes later.
After the half-time, Bayern started an onslaught on Monchengladbach’s goal but still neither Goretzka nor Thomas Muller could beat Nicolas from promising positions.

Berlin, Aug 19 (Ians) A brace from Leroy Sane and a goal from new arrival Harry Kane paved the way for Bayern Munich’s 4-0 victory over Werder Bremen at the curtain raiser of the 2023-2024 Bundesliga campaign on Saturday.
The German record champions had a fairytale start as Kane’s chipped-through ball allowed Sane to finish off a counterattack in the fourth minute clinically, reports Xinhua.
The Green Whites remained unfazed and thought they had restored parity five minutes later, but Niclas Fullkrug’s header following a free-kick from Marvin Ducksch was ruled offside.
Bayern controlled possession and should have added another goal to its lead, but neither Jamal Musiala’s nor Noussair Mazraoui’s promising long-range effort found the back of the net.

Berlin, May 22 (Ians) A sense of optimism appears to offer some solace to Thomas Tuchel as dark clouds gather over Bayern Munich. “Next season we will do better,” the 49-year-old coach asserted, hinting at a glimmer of hope amid the turmoil currently gripping the club.
Tuchel casts himself as a soothsayer, forecasting sunnier days ahead while the Bavarians currently weather a relentless storm, with no immediate reprieve in sight. Painting a hopeful picture seems to be his chosen method to avoid confronting the sensitive decisions that 2023 will inevitably demand, reports Xinhua.
Leadership Issues
Amid speculation over the futures of club leaders like Chairman Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic, the disheartening defeat to Leipzig underscored the team’s apparent leadership deficit. The squad’s unraveling on home turf after just 30 minutes was not the first instance of Bayern squandering a seemingly secure game this season.

Munich (Germany), April 20 (Ians) Erling Haaland’s second-half goal guided English club Manchester City into the next round, as Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw (4-1 on aggregate) on home turf fell short in the second leg of the quarterfinal.
The Bavarians started with determination on Wednesday and came close in 17 minutes when Jamal Musiala found Leroy Sane, who narrowly missed the target with his left-footed effort from inside the box.
Sane remained a focal point as he tested City goalkeeper Ederson with a free kick five minutes later before Leon Goretzka squandered a promising opportunity from the edge of the box in the 24th minute, reports Xinhua.
Manchester City then had an unexpected chance to break the deadlock when Dayot Upamecano conceded a handball penalty at the half-hour mark. Haaland stepped up but fired the penalty over the target.

Munich (Germany), April 18 (Ians) To survive in stormy times, calmness seems the most promising recipe. Ahead of their Champions League last eight-round second leg against Manchester City this Wednesday evening, the struggling side of Bayern Munich seems to follow that guideline exactly.
Forgetting about the team-internal turmoil, rumours of a decaying squad, the noisy change of coaches, and the sportive malaise seem to work for the moment, reports Xinhua.
Everyone is keeping their feet behind the line and focusing on creating a miracle after the 3-0 setback in the first leg against the Skyblues.
Current statistics might not create optimism. Defenders such as Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard scored the goals in the recent four games, while strikers and midfielders seem stuck in a fatal goal drought.

Despite having quickly found a suitable replacement, former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, the mood in the Bavarian club remains at an alarmingly low level, reports Xinhua.
While the 49-year-old Tuchel is going to conduct his first training session this Monday, fans and players seem to regret the surprise sacking of Nagelsmann.

Kimmich denied reports of the 35-year-old Nagelsmann having lost the locker room.
Goretzka spoke about a deep relationship with the fired manager. “Not only I spent a lot of time on the training ground and meetings, we maybe spend more time with him as we did with our families over the past 18 months,” the German international added.

Berlin (Germany), March 9 (Ians) Bayern Munich advanced into the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals after seeing off Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate) thanks to second-half goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry in the second leg of the last 16 on Wednesday.
Paris Saint-Germain (Psg) made a bright start as Kylian Mbappe raced down the left wing before testing Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer with an attempt from a tight angle following a fast break with only two minutes played.

Bayern created their first clear-cut chance with 15 minutes gone when Leon Goretzka’s low shot from distance called Psg goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma into action.
The visitors had their biggest opportunity to restore parity in the 38th minute but Matthijs de Ligt blocked Vitinha’s shot after Sommer was dispossessed in his own box.

Berlin (Germany), Jan 21 (Ians) Former European champions Bayern Munich shared the spoils with resilient Leipzig in a match that could be considered the curtain raiser of the second half of the Bundesliga season.

Bayern enjoyed more possession of the ball, but Leipzig looked quick and dangerous on counterattacks as the match progressed. Emil Forsberg forced Yann Sommer into action in the 22nd minute, but his effort was denied comfortably by Bayern’s new goalie, reports Xinhua.

Berlin (Germany), Nov 22 (Ians) Tension is rife around the German team ahead of the group opener against Japan at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Crossing swords with Japan this Wednesday is the tournament’s most important game from the perspective of German captain Manuel Neuer.
“You gain confidence for the following games with a successful start and avoid getting under pressure in the second group game,” the Bayern goalkeeper said before the German squad took off to Doha.
“It is the game to a great extent deciding about your progress in the tournament,” Neuer added, reminding him of the defeat in the 2018 group opener against Mexico.
While the 36-year-old Neuer is trying to sharpen the team’s senses, coach Hansi Flick is forced to do the job without Leroy Sane.

Berlin, Nov 3 (Ians) The upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is an unprecedented mental challenge for footballers, says Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
With roughly two weeks to go until the tournament’s kick-off, “it is somehow strange to think of it as we are still busy with national and international club competitions,” the 27-year-old said.
“There is something important as a World Cup waiting, but you are currently stuck in your daily rhythm. And that (is the case) more or less right until the first World Cup group game.”
Coaches and players are aware that things will significantly change compared to the past World Cup tournaments, Kimmich stated.
In the past, players and coaches enjoyed the opportunity to prepare over several weeks “but now you have all sorts of other things in your mind.”
Therefore, the 2022 tournament is coming along as a never-before-experienced challenge, reports Xinhua.

Berlin, Oct 9 (Ians) Bayern Munich wasted a two-goal lead after Anthony Modeste’s last-gasp equaliser snatched a two-all draw on home soil in the ninth round of Bundesliga on Saturday.
Both sides staged a rough first half with many fouls which disrupted the flow of the game hence goalscoring opportunities were at a premium.
The spectators had to wait until the half-hour mark to witness the first chances of the game as Raphael Guerreiro’s dangerous shot forced Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer into action.
Bayern however opened the scoring out of the blue moments later, as Jamal Musiala had all time and space to tee up for Leon Goretzka, who beat custodian Alexander Meyer with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner, reports Xinhua. Dortmund had the chance to make it 1-1 in the 36th minute but Donyell Malen couldn’t beat Neuer in a one-on-one.

Berlin, Oct 5 (Ians) It might be one of Bayern Munich’s special values to overcome a crisis by delivering records.
After only three UEFA Champions League group matches, there might be some miles to cover until final glory can be secured, but the 2020 treble winners seem to be already decorating their long journey in the 2022-23 campaign by setting a record of 31 consecutive group games unbeaten.
While the battering of underdog Viktoria Plzen 5-0 appeared a piece of cake, some of the Bavarians’ lately wavering performers took the opportunity to gain additional confidence in advance of “Der Klassiker” against Borussia Dortmund this Saturday, reports Xinhua.
A solid number of goals tells the story about the upswing of Leroy Sane with the German international having scored four goals in the Champions League as well as three in the national league.

Berlin, Sep 18 (Ians) Augsburg extended Bayern’s winless streak to four games as Mergim Berisha scored the only goal of the match while Borussia Dortmund captured the top spot after substitute Youssoufa Moukoko provided the 1-0 winner against stubborn Schalke at the seventh round on Saturday.
Bayern controlled possession from the starting whistle and forced Augsburg onto the back foot in the opening stages as Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane tested goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz in quick succession.
Augsburg defended well and almost finished off a counterattack, but Bayern custodian Manuel Neuer was equal to Florian Niederlechner’s hammer from 20 metres in the 24th minute, reports Xinhua. The German giants started an onslaught on Augsburg’s goal but neither Jamal Musiala nor Leon Goretzka was able to break the deadlock before the half time.

Berlin (Germany), Sep 1 (Ians) Bayern Munich’s gifted talented players continued on their record-setting journey in the German Cup.
While the 5-0 victory in the first round of the German Cup against third-tier side Viktoria Cologne was far from a surprise, all the more it was the performance of Mathys Tel.
The French striker became the Bavarians’ youngest goal scorer at 17 years and 126 days in the Cup competition since the 2020 treble winner made its way to the Bundesliga in 1965.
Despite having to live with the burden of a youngster of his age’s exorbitant transfer sum of 20 million euros, the former Stade Rennais forward crushed the record of 19-year-old shooting star Jamal Musiala, who scored at 17 years and 205 days.
His coach Julian Nagelsmann announced to carefully develop the striker as “he is extremely talented but only 17”. The Bayern coach nevertheless predicted that Tel is on his way to building a brilliant career.

Berlin, Sep 1 (Ians) Bayern Munich showed no mercy to third division outfit Viktoria Cologne, cruising to a 5-0 victory on the road to conclude the 1st round of the German Cup on Wednesday.
Cologne started courageously on home soil and were able to keep the German giants at a distance.
The lower league side were even able to press Bayern onto the back foot, as Niklas May unleashed the first dangerous effort on target in the 13th minute.
The hosts thought they had stunned Bayern with the opener in the 20th minute, but Simon Handel’s goal was ruled offside.
Bayern responded with furious attacks but couldn’t overcome Viktoria goalkeeper Ben Voll, who defused attempts from Ryan Gravenberch and Joshua Kimmich at the half-hour mark.

Berlin, March 29 (Ians) Satisfying results against two underdogs don't conceal Germany's most pressing problem. At this summer's European Championship, coach Joachim Loew's team will have to do the job without an out-and-out spearhead.
The 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Iceland (3-0) and Romania (1-0) showed distinct profligacy in converting chances, something that is causing concern.
Leroy Sane (City), Serge Gnabry (Bayern), and Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz (Chelsea) might be skillful wingers, but the four are far from being goal-scoring machines.
An inadequacy in converting chances at their clubs and in the national team is becoming one of the primary concerns for Loew when facing leading football nations such as France and Portugal and then Hungary in the group stage at the continental tournament, Xinhua news reported.
"If we had a Lewandowski around, we would win every game," former Bayern president and TV pundit Uli Hoeness said, adding: "But we don't.

Berlin, March 29 (Ians) Serge Gnabry's first half goal ensured Germany won 1-0 in Romania and stayed top of World Cup qualifying Group J despite a string of missed chances in Bucharest.
Gnabry tapped in a 15th goal in 19 internationals in the 16th minute but coach Joachim Loew watched in growing frustration as Germany failed to make the game safe through a combination of poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping from Florin Nita on Sunday, Dpa news reports.
But with Romania toothless in attack, Gnabry's solitary strike was enough to keep Germany perfect in the group with two wins out of two before they conclude their opening triple-header at home to North Macedonia on Wednesday.
"We have worked very well against the ball and won it well," Loew told broadcaster Rtl. "We had some good combinations.

Bucharest, March 28 (Ians) Germany arrived in Bucharest for their second World Cup qualifier against Romania on Sunday without Bayern Munich defender Niklas Suele, who misses out with a muscle problem.
The 25-year-old Sule will also be unavailable for Wednesday's match at home to North Macedonia, the German federation Dfb said on Saturday, which concludes the opening qualifying triple-header, Dpa news reports.
Sule already sat out Thursday's 3-0 win over Iceland in Duisburg but will not recover in time for the next matches.
That leaves coach Joachim Loew with a squad of 18 outfield players and two goalkeepers which could be cut further as he revealed to reporters Suele's Bayern team-mates Leon Goretzka und Leroy Sane were doubts.
Goretzka has a "bit of a problem in the calf" while Sane has a hamstring issue but has a better chance of making it.

Berlin, March 26 (Ians) Two quick first-half goals from Leon Goretzka and Kai Havertz paved the way for Germany's 3-0 victory over Iceland to kick off their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Germans wasted no time on Thursday and opened the score with only three minutes gone when Serge Gnabry teed up Joshua Kimmich's chip into the box for Goretzka, who volleyed the ball into the top right corner, Xinhua news reports.
Four minutes later, Iceland was already 2-0 behind as Kimmich's through ball allowed Leroy Sane to assist Havertz, whose well-placed shot into the bottom right overcame goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson.
The hosts should have added more goals to their lead but neither Goretzka nor Havertz was able to seal the brace before the break. Meanwhile, Iceland came close in the 25th minute when German defender Antonio Rudiger deflected Runa Sigurjonsson's dangerous shot off-target.

Berlin, March 7 (Ians) Bayern Munich shook off a 2-0 deficit and rallied back to crush rivals Borussia Dortmund thanks to Robert Lewandowski's hat-trick in the Bundesliga.
The Bavarians caught the worst possible start on home soil as Dortmund established a two-goal advantage with only nine minutes played on Saturday. However, Bayern responded in style with two goals in each half to maintain its two-point lead atop the Bundesliga standings, the Xinhua news reported.
Dortmund grabbed a fairy-tale start on the road as Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a deflected shot from 18 meters and two minutes gone in the Klassiker.
The visitors were on fire and doubled the lead seven minutes later when Haaland wrapped up his brace after finishing off a combination via Thorgan Hazard. The last time Bayern was two goals behind on home soil was against Duisburg in 1977.

Berlin, Feb 28 (Ians) Bayern Munich returned to winning ways in the league and cemented its top spot after Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry provided a brace each to down Cologne 5-1 on home soil in the 23rd round in the Bundesliga.
Both sides started highly motivated into the encounter, but Bayern needed no warm-up time and opened the scoring with just 18 minutes gone when Leon Goretzka's pass into the box found Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting, who tapped the opener home from five meters, Xinhua news reports.
After the opener, Bayern gained momentum while Cologne had to focus on its defensive work as Lewandowski unleashed a dangerous header on target in the 25th minute on Saturday.
Bayern's top striker remained in the thick of things as he doubled the advantage in the 34th minute after Goretzka's second assist allowed Lewandowski to mark his 27th goal of the season.

Berlin, Feb 21 (Ians) League leaders Bayern Munich suffered a setback in the Bundesliga title race, losing 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Eagles staged a faultless first-half performance with goals from Daichi Kamada and Amin Younes. The record German champions woke up after half-time, but Robert Lewandowski's goal wasn't enough to take anything from the match.
Frankfurt started frenetically and immediately pushed Bayern onto the back foot on Saturday. It took the hosts only four minutes to produce the first clear-cut opportunity as Bayern defender David Alaba had to block Younes' dangerous attempt on target, Xinhua news reports.
Ten minutes later, Frankfurt were rewarded for their powerful start as Filip Kostic's square pass found Kamada, who made no mistake to beat Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from close range.
Younes remained a factor in Frankfurt's game as the German international kept Bayern's defense busy.
