The 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards have concluded, and the big winner from Thursday night’s ceremony is Chris Stapleton, who took home Entertainer of the Year.
It’s the first time Stapleton has won that prize, which brings the total of ACM awards he’s won over his celebrated career to 15. He’s now also qualified for the ACM Triple Crown Award, given to people who win New Female/Male Artist of the Year, Female/Male Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
But Stapleton didn’t take home the most prizes. That distinction was shared by Lainey Wilson and Hardy, who essentially teamed up to win 4 each. By herself, Wilson won Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for “Bell Bottom Country.” She also shared Visual Media of the Year and Music Event of the Year with Hardy, both of which were awarded...

Dustin Lynch offered up a pair of new songs on Friday. The surprise releases “Pasadena” and “Not Every Cowboy” are the country singer’s first new music to appear since his fourth album, Tullahoma, was released in early 2020.

Thomas Rhett is the latest country singer to go big with plans for a double album. The project’s first half, Country Again: Side A, will be available April 30th and includes the lead single “What’s Your Country Song,” along with two newly released tracks, “Growing Up” and “Want It Again.”
Where several of Rhett’s hit singles over the last few years have leaned toward the progressive edge of pop production and songcraft, “Growing Up” almost sounds like an obscurity plucked from the back half of a forgotten Nineties album.

One morning last fall, Luke Laird was eating breakfast and listening to one of his favorite Apple Music playlists, Honky-Tonk Essentials. When Webb Pierce’s 1953 hit “There Stands the Glass” started playing, Laird had a strange thought.
“I was like man, ‘What if I made a beat and sample that?’” he thought to himself.
After breakfast, he recorded a crude 13-second voice memo in a Nashville parking lot, in which the hit songwriter (“Pontoon,” “Drink in My Hand”) hummed the melody of Pierce’s chorus while beatboxing a rough sketch of a beat.

When Dustin Lynch first signed a record deal in the early 2010s and started releasing music, he did his best to play nice and not ruffle any feathers. Like many fresh-faced entertainment-industry aspirants, he was supposed to feel grateful to be in such an enviable position, and also be willing to do whatever was asked of him. But he couldn’t help feeling like he didn’t have agency over his music. As a result, he ended up recording some songs, like “She Cranks My Tractor,” that didn’t feel representative of who he was.

Sam Hunt was a day away from releasing his new song “Sinning With You” when things went sideways. On November 21st, the country singer was arrested in Nashville for driving under the influence and having an open container after he was observed driving his SUV in the oncoming lane. Hunt released a statement saying he made a “poor and selfish decision,” and “Sinning With You,” originally slated for November 22nd, was bumped to 2020.

Sam Hunt plays a man smitten in his new song “Kinfolks,” released on Thursday afternoon. It’s the Georgia native’s first release since “Downtown’s Dead” came out in May 2018.
Hunt wrote the song with his frequent collaborators Zach Crowell, Jerry Flowers, and Josh Osborne, imagining a man who falls hard for someone and wants to give them a tour of his past. “I ain’t never had a type, having a type takes two/but I know what I like, and you’re the only one of you,...

Thomas Rhett looks back fondly on the vehicle that transported him into adulthood in “That Old Truck,” the latest release from his upcoming album Center Point Road. The follow-up to Rhett’s 2017 release Life Changes, Center Point Road will be available May 31st.
A gentle, mostly acoustic number that veers off from the dance-inflected country-pop of Rhett’s current single “Look What God Gave Her,” “That Old Truck” — penned by Rhett with Julian Bunetta, Kamron Kimbro and Ryan Tedder — offers up a series of vivid snapshots from Rhett’s coming of age.

Dustin Lynch follows up his Number One song “Good Girl” with the release of a new three-song Ep, Ridin’ Roads.
Written by Lynch with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, the slow-rolling title track celebrates the nighttime drives of Lynch’s formative years in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where having his girlfriend beside him with no particular place to go was all that mattered. With programmed beats and studio polish, “Ridin’ Roads” is balanced by some unexpected Dobro and stringed instruments, linking Lynch to his “Cowboys and Angels” country past.

Chris Janson’s new single “Good Vibes” plays like the country equivalent of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” a tirelessly upbeat song that preaches positivity above all else.
The Grand Ole Opry member performed the track, a preview of his next project for Warner Music Nashville, during a recent appearance on the Opry stage. Backed by the house band, Janson sang about shunning the negative by putting his “windows down and his blinders on.” The “Buy Me a Boat” singer wrote “Good Vibes” with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell.

A classic Reba McEntire ballad, a Guy Clark cover from his acolyte Steve Earle and a Spanglish love song from the Last Bandoleros make up our list of the best country songs to hear this week.
The Last Bandoleros, “Enamorado”
A bilingual love song, “Enamorado” mixes the ramped-up romance of Latin pop ballads with the hooks and harmonies of Southwestern roots music. YouTube singing star Alexander Stewart co-wrote the track and released his own version last summer, but “Enamorado” sounds like a Last Bandoleros original, with all four bandmates contributing...

“I ain’t trying to hear the negative/I’m just trying to change the narrative,” sings Chris Janson in his new single “Good Vibes.” The follow-up to the Cma-nominated ballad “Drunk Girl,” the song is the first new music from the singer, songwriter and Grand Ole Opry member (aside from a Christmas song in December) since his 2017 album Everybody.
Written by Janson with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, “Good Vibes” is representative of the Missouri native’s worldview, one based around the idea of embracing the positive, especially when it comes to family.

Cma-nominated performer Brett Young will look back to his home state for his second album, Ticket to L.A., arriving via Big Machine Label Group on December 7th.
Ticket to L.A. reunites Young, a native of Southern California, with that album’s producer Dann Huff, along with engineer Justin Niebank and executive producer Jimmy Harnen. A release about the album notes that fans will be able to expect some quicker tempos on the album, perhaps a slight turn away from the balladry that made him a fixture on...

It’s been three years since Luke Bryan released his final Spring Break project, but the country star just can’t resist the pull of the water. For the music video for “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset,” Bryan heads to the lake, serving as a narrator of sorts for a couple’s seasonal romance.
The clip hits all the requisite marks – boats, colorful skies and pretty young people – to summon the warm-weather nostalgia that Bryan sells so well. “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset,” written by Zach Crowell, Ryan Hurd and Chase McGill, is the...

Sam Hunt wanders the sleepy streets of Bernal, Mexico, in the new video for “Downtown’s Dead,” the moody follow-up single to his juggernaut “Body Like a Back Road.”
Filled with dusty scenes of a mostly empty town – including Bernal’s stunning cathedral – and Hunt drifting around on an old motorcycle, the clip captures the same aimless and untethered emotional space of the single. It’s all about a bar scene that no longer holds its charm – now that the woman who was once the life of Hunt’s parties isn’t around.
