With Deadpool & Wolverine set to be released in theaters this July, Marvel Comics is getting in on the fun with special variant covers featuring the characters as they'll appear in the MCU.
A special team-up story (set in the comic book Marvel Universe) titled Weapon X-Traction will run as backup tales in eight Marvel titles this summer, with each of those issues boasting movie-themed covers. The story comes our way from writer Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and atrist Javier Garrón (Avengers).
It all kicks off with July's Incredible Hulk #14 and continues through August; while that opening chapter will have a teaser variant cover that uses Garrón’s promotional art for the story, the rest boast pieces made in honour of the upcoming film. They're illustrated by some of the industry’s hottest artists including Steve McNiven, Ryan Stegman, Jorge Molina, Cafu, Declan Shalvey and David Nakayama.

This summer, Marvel Comics will relaunch the X-Men family of titles in what's being called the "From the Ashes" era. First up is the new X-Men series that will see Cyclops lead a new team, with Magneto serving as what writer Jed MacKay describes as their "spiritual centre."
Talking to IGN, he explains, "This is very much a series about rebuilding. It's a series about finding your place in a world that you thought you'd left behind, and essentially taking the wreckage of something and trying to build something new from it, which we see sort of thematically and also quite literally."
"I mean, the X-Men are flying around in the Marauder, too. They're living in a Sentinel factory that they have salvaged - a former Orchis facility that they now live in," MacKay adds. "So this sort of scavenging and repurposing of what came before in order to construct...

This comic obviously doesn’t really exist. There is no Amazing Fantasy #1000, it exists only in the heads of the Marvel marketing department. Spider-Man’s 60th anniversary, however, does exist, and he’s one of a handful of characters that forced his way into mainstream pop culture many years before Marvel became the pop culture juggernaut it now is. Peter Parker is, of course, all of us when we were teenage kids. Socially awkward, tough home life, constantly short of money…take your pick, there’s something in there that everyone could relate to. The fact he gained his powers also made every kid reading think, hey, if it happened to him, it could happen to me.
Peter Parker has also had a massive influence on a lot of professionals now working in the industry, as this anniversary issue shows.

One of the most highly anticipated conflicts in Marvel Comics history arrived earlier this month as Knull, the King in Black and Dark Lord of the symbiotes, descended upon Earth in superstar creative duo Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s King in Black #1! But he did not arrive unopposed. As Knull and his legion of symbiote dragons rained terror and destruction upon the world, all of Marvel’s greatest heroes rose up in defense and learned firsthand just how outmatched they were. After brutally taking down Venom, Knull enveloped the entire planet in a symbiote dome. Now, Earth’s heroes assemble to launch their next desperate move.
Writer Donny Cates teases:
All of the Marvel characters think that they are prepared for this. They think that they have plan. The thing is, they are so not ready for it. Captain America, Iron Man, every single X-Men team, it’s all hands on deck.

When Thor first joined the Marvel Universe, it was as Harvard Medical student Donald Blake, but after years splitting time between the two alter egos, Thor became a separate being and Blake left Asgard (mostly) behind. But in November’s Thor #9 by Donny Cates and Nic Klein, Don Blake returns and things are looking less than great for the good doctor.
“‘Prey’ is maybe the most fun I’ve ever had writing at Marvel. Thor fans are going to lose their minds over this one and I can’t wait to unleash this terrifying beast on them!” Cates said. “Nic Klein is back and at the top of his game on this one. I promise you this, True Believers, just like the mighty thunder king himself…..you won’t see this one coming. Behold…the return of Donald Blake!”
Blake was initially transferred out of Thor around when Walter Simonson began his epic run.

For the last couple years, Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman have been putting together a pretty crazy and frankly must-read Venom ongoing series. Venom has a rather messy narrative history full of retcons and ideas that don’t sync well, so during his run, Cates has decided to cut into Venom lore like a surgeon with a chainsaw.
Certain aspects of Venom’s past have been written out, like the idea that Eddie Brock had cancer or even a sister. Brian Michael Bendis’ attempt to rewrite the symbiote species as some kind of gooey cosmic knight armor created to protect the universe has also been discarded.
There have been two important characters introduced in this series. One is Dylan Brock, Eddie’s recently-discovered son who has symbiote DNA mixed into his biology. He appears to be a major step in symbiote evolution and that worries the Maker (Ultimate Reed Richards...

Marvel Comics has released the cover art and variant cover art for their upcoming new comic book series Absolute Carnage and they reveal the new look at the insanely deadly villain Carnage.
Carnage has always been terrifying, but this new design takes the terror to another level. I’m totally digging this nightmarish design. It’s definitely different than any of the other designs we’ve previously seen.
Absolute Carnage comes from Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, who both also created a run on Venom. This comic actually spins out of that one and it will include Venom and Cletus Kasady a.k.a. Carnage facing off with each other.
When talking about the comic, Cates explained:
“Cletus Kasady is back, and he is deadlier than he’s ever been. Absolute Carnage encompasses every single character who has ever worn a Symbiote and every Symbiote that has ever been, going...

There’s a pretty solid maxim that the more you explain something in fiction the less interesting it gets. Before, the mysterious symbiote that fell from the sky and briefly bonded with Spider-Man before finding Eddie Brock and creating Venom was a fascinating unknown and just another example of the boundless imagination and possibilities of the Marvel Universe. Now? Well, with Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s latest issue in their Venom series, things have gotten a whole lot more complicated.
The issue finds the God of the Symbiotes explaining the history of the race to Venom. It transpires that the Symbiote God was actually the ruler of all space until the Celestials showed up. The two tangled for supremacy in the universe, with the God of the Symbiotes creating a magic sword called (sigh) the Necrosword (first featured in Jason Aaron’s Thor: God of Thunder series back in...
