- Was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
- Founding member and instrumental in the formation of the Big East Conference.
- Syracuse University won a national title in men's basketball, nine national titles in men's lacrosse, made 14 football bowl appearances and claimed 22 overall Big East Conference championships in his 27 years at the helm.
- Served three years in the U.S. Navy.
- Served a year as football coach at Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy.
- Served as Athletic Director at Syracuse University from 1977-2005.
- Was an exceptional football player at Dartmouth where he was a second-team selection on the All-Ivy 25th anniversary squad. He led Dartmouth in rushing for three seasons.
- Was head coach at Dartmouth from 1971-77, where his teams compiled a record of 41-20-2 (.667) and won or shared three Ivy League championships (1971-72-73).
- Was drafted in 1960 by the Los Angeles Chargers but signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He was later traded to the AFL's Boston Patriots.
