    CELEBRIMBOR (ELF)

    Celebrimbor was one of the greatest craftsmen in the history of Middle-earth. He was the Lord of the Elves of Eregion, and the leader of their crafting guild. His skill was so great, that he even befriended the Dwarves of the neighboring Kingdom of Khazad-dum (Moria), and together with their artificer, Narvi, made the Western gate of Moria.

    Celebrimbor himself made the Three Rings of the Elves - Narya, the Ring of Fire (which had the power to evoke hope to the people around the wielder), Vilya, the Ring of Air (which had the power to of heal and preserve), and Nenya, the Ring of Water (which had the power to protect, preserve and conceal from Evil).

    Before Celebrimbor was captured and killed by Sauron (following the Sack of Eregion), he gave the three rings into safekeeping - Narya and Vilya to the High King Gil-galad, and Nenya to Lady Galadriel, whom he loved.

    GALADRIEL (ELF)

    Galadriel was one of the most powerful, wisest and beautiful Elves in Middle-earth. Along with her husband, Celeborn, she was the co-ruler of Lothlorien, a hidden forest-kingdom of the Elves.

    Galadriel's Elven Ring of Power was Nenya, the Ring of Water. It was given to her by Celebrimbor, before the Sack of Eregion. Indeed, it was Galadriel who advised Celebrimbor to give the Three Rings into safekeeping, which he did, because of his love for her.

    Using Nenya, Galadriel turned Lothlorien into a beautiful kingdom, well shielded from the enemies. It was in Lothlorien where the Fellowship of the Ring found safe refuge (when they were pursued by the Orcs of Moria), and recieved valuable gifts. After the destruction of the One Ring, Nenya lost its power, and Galadriel sailed away with it to the Undying Lands.

    GIL-GALAD (ELF)

    Ereinion Gil-galad was the last High King of the Noldorin Elves, ruling the region of Lindon (northwestern Middle-earth). Along with Elendil, the High King of Arnor and Gondor, he organized the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, to wage war against the Dark Lord Sauron. His weapon of choice was a spear called Aeglos, greatly feared by his enemies.

    Gil-galad's Elven Rings of Power were Narya, the Ring of Fire, and Vilya, the Ring of Air. They were given to him by Celebrimbor for safekeeping, before the Sack of Eregion. Gil-galad and his forces would later drive out Sauron's forces from that region, but too late to save Celebrimbor and the majority of his people.

    During the final stages of the War of the Last Alliance, Sauron himself stepped forth from his besieged fortress of Barad-dur, and attacked the Alliance. Before Gil-galad hurried to counter him, he entrusted both Rings of Power: Narya to his liutenant, Cirdan, and Vilya to his herald, Elrond. Gil-galad was joined by Elendil, so they attacked Sauron together, and managed to slay him. However, both of them lost their lives in the process.

    ELROND (ELF)

    Elrond Half-elven was the Lord of Rivendell (Imladris), a hidden refuge of the Elves. When an Elven army from Lindon (led by Elrond) came too late to help the Elves of Eregion, Sauron's forces attacked both Elrond's army and the survivors of Eregion, who were forced to retreat to the hills. They defended there until Gil-galad came to their rescue and drove out the forces of Sauron. It was on that place of their defence, where Elrond founded Rivendell.

    Elrond's Elven Ring of Power was Vilya, the Ring of Air. It was entrusted to him by the High King Gil-galad (to whom Elrond served as a herald) before his battle against Sauron, during the War of the Last Alliance. Since Gil-galad was killed in that battle, Vilya was left in Elrond's hands, who returned to Rivendell after the war ended.

    During the course of years, Elrond used Vilya to preserve Rivendell, and to heal the ones in need. Indeed, it was in Rivendell where the fate of the One Ring was decided, at the Council of Elrond. He was also responsible for the healing of Frodo Baggins from his Morgul-blade wound. After the destruction of the One Ring, Vilya lost its power, and Elrond sailed away with it to the Undying Lands.

    CIRDAN (ELF)

    Cirdan the Shipwright was the Lord of the Grey Havens (Mithlond), a seaport known for building ships that were transporting Elves over the Great Sea to the Undying Lands. Wise and foresighted, Cirdan was the oldest Elf still inhabiting Middle-earth, as evidenced by his beard (a rare thing for an Elf to have).

    Cirdan's Elven Ring of Power was Narya, the Ring of Fire. It was entrusted to him by the High King Gil-galad (to whom Cirdan served as a liutenant) before his battle against Sauron, during the War of the Last Alliance. Since Gil-galad was killed in that battle, Vilya was left in Cirdan's hands, who then became leader of the Elves of Lindon.

    Around thousand years later, he gave away Narya to one of the Wizards who came to Middle-earth from the Undying Lands. After that, Cirdan and his people continued to help the Free Peoples, particulary against the Witch-king, during the Angmar Wars. He was among the last Elves to leave Middle-earth.

    GANDALF (MAIA)

    Olorin was one of the five Maiar (angelic beings) who were sent to Middle-earth by the Valar (gods), to aid against the growing threat of Sauron. The five were called Istari by the Elves, and Wizards by Men. Olorin himself was known by many names, the most famous being Gandalf.

    Gandalf's Elven Ring of Power was Narya, the Ring of Fire. When the ship carrying him came to Middle-earth from the Undying Lands, it anchored in Grey Havens. Cirdan, the lord of that harbor, wisely foresaw that Gandalf will play a large role in the fate of Middle-earth, so he gave Narya to him.

    The ring's powers of inspiring others proved crucial, since Gandalf ended up being a key figure in both the Quest of Erebor, and the War of the Ring. After the destruction of the One Ring, Narya lost its power, and Gandalf sailed away with it to the Undying Lands.
