    Prithviraj Sukumaran in Celluloid (2013)

Celluloid: There is no better medium like celluloid!

    V/H/S (2012)

Video tapes: In the late 1970s and early 1980s the VHS sytem claimed a standard in home cinema in a short time. In the same epoch of movie distribution, the Video 2000 system and Beta Max lost against the common home cinema king VHS. No matter which of them, video tapes are still my favorite.

Alex Dispoto and Jules Citro in The DVD (2019)

DVD: In the middle of the 1990s a new format, the DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) started to conquer the market and had many advantages. It is small in place, doesn't need to be rewinded like video-tapes or celluloid roles. If the owner treats it carefully, it has a long life time. No tape jam, no torn celluloid roles and the audience was first time able to select the provided languages and subtitles. It has a very good image quality compared to video tapes. I still remember the revolution and love my DVDs. There are more classics available on DVD than on any other commercial digital medium. There were a few major changes induced with the launch of the DVD. That's my preferred movie medium!

Juliette Binoche in Three Colors: Blue (1993)

Bluray: I loved the progress when the TV-screens got upgraded from PAL or SECAM tube-TVs to high definition screens and the Bluray came to our homes. It initiated the HDMI standard and provided more detailed, clear images and better sound quality compared to the DVD, but still in the same systemic measures of the DVD. It was the first time to allow playing former visual media formats as well as the new media format. In 2006 the Bluray began to conquer the world. It is a milestone in home cinema like the DVD. Bluray is my preferred medium. It is also the first medium which is technically able to come close to the old celluloid cinema quality.

Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington in Avatar (2009)

3D formats: Same like Blurays, but I still like the 3D effect. Please continue it in 4K, 8K, ...

Anthony Hopkins, Christian Slater, Fionnula Flanagan, Jeffrey Tambor, John Turturro, Michael Clarke Duncan, Camryn Manheim, Christopher Lawford, Michael Lerner, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Stella Hopkins in Slipstream (2007)

Streaming: I don't want it complicated. Professional providers like Amazon, Netflix or Apple provide streams in high quality. So why waste time with searching the movie I want to watch in the shelves? I prefer streaming. Even though there may be limitations like the loss of extra language selection or original language selection (OV) compared to DVD and Bluray, it's still my favorite.

    Moon Shots 4K (2015)

Ultra High Definition: Since there are 4K-Bluray-discs on the market, I prefer to buy them. It's the quality I like best.

    Super 8 (2011)

Future formats: Even though there are not many movies in 8K on the market, I believe in the medium. The HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) will provide enough capacity to show even 4K movies in 3D when the processors of the devices keep up in speed and it's still in the same three dimensional measures like the DVD and the Bluray. The 8K quality will be another milestone in home cinema. It will easily cross the border to the quality of celluloid down to the grain of celluloid film material, especially when shot with digital 8K cams. My choice!
