He died on 1 May 1966 in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA.- Whit Cunliffe was a highly popular comic music hall and pantomime singer from the 1890s. He was known for the outfits worn during his stage performances, chose to sing slightly risque songs like 'Tight Shirts Have Got To Go' often his songs also referred to political questions of the day such as 'Do You Believe in Women's Rights?' and 'You'll Get On In England If You're Not An Englishmen' perhaps his best known songs were 'Who Were You With Last Night' and a World War I song 'Hoch, Hoch Der Kaiser', Cunliffe was an enthusiastic supporter of WWI and was involved in a great many concerts raising money to help the war drive. Starred in a early short singing film 'I'm Afraid To Go Home In The Dark' which was synchronised to a gramophone recording made by the Warwick Trading Film Company in 1909.
