- The first call is to catch a man nicknamed the "Ferret" who is damaging a manufacturing company. He out runs Reed, and the newspaper reporter on the scene delights in the story. When they respond to an intruder call they find a man going house to house who flags them down for help. His wife is comatose and about to have a baby. They take the couple to the hospital where the doctor asks them to check for mud the woman has been eating. They find the mud and follow up with a visit to a voodoo priest who had ordered the mud for the couple. He puts a mojo hex on Reed which is followed by Mac showing them the paper with Reed on the front page. They pull an elderly lady over for erratic driving and she takes them for gas station attendants. When they go to the manufacturing company to check recently fired employees for the ferret, he shows up at the office and this time Reed is able to catch him.
- When a string of jewelry stores are robbed with the same M.O., Reed pulls some clever police work during an unrelated traffic stop. Also, Malloy spots the pattern of a second burglar as he breaks into stores in a path across town.
- Albert Porter, Reed's friend in the reserves is on his first day of patrol partnered with Officer Wells. Wells is not impressed with his geeky partner. First call is to a park where they advise a young group where they can legally camp. Second call is a bank robbery where they are the backup to Wells and Porter. The robbery seems to fit a pattern of other crimes where the robber is always different, wears a backpack, and is young. Reed suspects a car they pull over for a broken brake light. Malloy believes the young man to be okay but Reed spots a problem in their story leading to their arrest. Reed and Malloy see Wells and Porter with a traffic stop and stop to check out the situation. Porter accidentally backs the stopped car into their patrol car. Malloy and Reed are called to another bank robbery where they corner the suspect and learn that he is wearing a bomb and is being forced to holdup the bank. The man behind the robberies forces the suspect to flee with him in a car chase. At a dead end the man tosses the backpack to Wells trying to hold him hostage. Porter suspects a fake bomb and yanks it away from Wells.
- After a distraught and depressed woman attempts suicide, Barnaby Jones is compelled to re-investigate a case in which he may have helped wrongly convict her ex-husband of kidnapping a little boy four years earlier.

The next morning a private detective claims that the money was lost by a big time gambler and pressures him to give it back. he does and discovers that the detective was a con man.
- Friday and Gannon are working out of the juvenile division when they get called to a movie theater to investigate an attack on a high school student who had acid thrown on his back. The suspect is another boy named Gerald Paulson, who is emotionally disturbed. Later, Gerald has an argument with his stepfather and runs out of the house carrying a live hand grenade. Eventually, Friday and Gannon trail him to a house where a girl he attends high school with is throwing a party and he is holding them hostage and threatening to pull the pin. It is now up to the two detectives to get the grenade out of his hands before he kills himself and seriously wounds several other people.
- Angela promises Chase's old friend Paul a large sum of money if he succeeds in getting the Giobertis off their land. But Paul's plan also endangers the Falcon Crest vineyards.

Lance continues to investigate Curtis's allegations about Richard's underworld activity. Richard finds him rifling through Emma's office at the New Globe and warns him to stay away from Maggie. Lance tries in vain to enlist Maggie's support, but she denies Lance's accusations and tells him to stop before anyone else gets hurt. Frank and Melissa ride out to Hobart, California using Frank's antiquated map. Melissa accuses him of selfish motives, but when Frank raises his gun and shoots a rattler lying close to her, Melissa is embarrassed into silence. Frank tells her that he is dying and has no desire of cheating her out of her legacy.
- Richard blackmails Kit and uses her in his plan to help fight Angela. Emma secretly marries Karlotti, hoping the marriage will result in a child. Chase hopes to stop the Tuscany Land Corporation from buying up the valley. Meredith saves Tony from Kolinski. Angela tries to instill family pride in Vickie. Melba Moore joins the cast as adoption attorney Francine Hope.

Billy starts acting more aggressive at work when he uses Alison to look bad to net a new account to land it for himself. Also, Alan finally discovers the intimate relationship between Matt and David.
- At Kimberly's request, Peter takes Michael on a getaway to San Diego, where both of them are pursued by a conniving woman named Teri Carson who wants them to vote first place for her teenage daughter, Brandi, in a beauty pageant. Meanwhile, Jo babysits Tyler, the abused 5-year-old son of Sydney's old college friend Lori. When Amanda's power at D&D is threatened, Billy offers to help her, but he is hurt when she rebuffs his advances. Alison, having enough of the unethical business attitudes at D&D, resigns from the agency for good and gets a new job as a waitress at Shooters. David leaves Matt for good when all he talks about is his lost relationship with Alan. Jane gets angry at Jake after he meets with Richard to ask him to take Jane back to his sagging company. Also, Sydney decides to get a tattoo for herself and gets a drunk Bobby to do likewise.
- Nancy Banks comes to Perry wanting him to redeem bets at the horse track for her. When he does, he learns her brother is wanted for embezzlement by his boss Marvin Fremont. When Fremont is found dead in her room, she is charged.

Charming the establishment's owner, Andrew Simms, with her aloof, hard-to-get charms and hip-grinding employment audition, Pepper initiates an immediate rapport with him. Crowley questions Littel's wife, Christina, and Littel's in-laws, the powerful Van Dyke dynasty of California, and eventually learns from the Special Prosecutor's Office that the Van Dykes despised the son-in-law for his political desires to clean up corruption. Suspicious that widow Christina's grief may be disingenuous at best, Crowley leaks that Pepper is an agent with the police department. Startled at this revelation, Littel's wife shoots Simms to keep him quiet, with Simms confessing to Pepper in his last breath that Christina, having learned of her husband's affair with the dancer, hired Simms to kill them both, using Simms' criminal record from Tennessee and the possibility of extradition as blackmail. Pepper makes a poetic (though looped) comment about the weather, and she and Crowley get a great freeze frame in the sunset as it filters through the sidewalk foliage.
