- The series takes place in a successful law firm that specializes in family law, dedicated to cases of separation and couple and family conflicts in general. Pablo Domínguez, a partner lawyer at the firm Cabal-Ortega-Domínguez and Associates, is going through a difficult separation from his wife Jimena when he suddenly meets his colleague Julia Escallón, who is about to marry Camilo Borrero, but fate will gives her life an unexpected turn on their wedding day and she ends up very close to Pablo and facing him in court.

The love stories of the show torn the characters between their sentiments and their loyalty to the plan.
- The telenovela takes place in the fictional Argentine village of Vidisterra. All local wineries were combined into a single one, owned by Regina Piave and the mayor Octavio Capogreco. Wine is the village's most important product, giving great power to the owners of the winery. Regina, Octavio and other influential people of the village are also members of a secret lodge aiming to survive a potential end of the world. The main male character, Antonio Puentes, was about to get married at Vidisterra, but his wife died in an unclear murder promoted by the lodge. He finally stays in the village, as heir of his fiancee's sharings in the winery. The main female character is Mercedes Leiva, who was in prison for killing an abusive spouse, but as her husband was popular in the village, she is rejected by most people once released from prison.
- Julia Albarracín (Lali Espósito) is a girl from La Merced, a small town. Her adoptive mother Blanca used to work in a factory; she was contaminated on the job and dies sometime later. Before she dies, she gives Julia the proof of the contamination that killed her. The factory owner knew about it and stalked her so she couldn't give the proof to the police. Desperately needing to escape, she boarded a random bus to Buenos Aires, where she sought help from her mother's old friend Concepción (Ana Maria Picchio), who had become a nun and is also Santa Rosa Convent's Mother Superior. She gives Julia a nun's habit and introduces her to the other nuns as novice Sister Esperanza. Sister Clara (Gabriela Toscano) becomes her best friend and advisor, but what she doesn't know is that Clara is her biological mother. Clara realizes that Esperanza is her daughter, but becomes afraid of telling her the truth because she is afraid of losing her forever. Esperanza also meets the young priest Tomás (Mariano Martinez) and becomes friends with him; eventually she falls in love with him although she knows it's impossible. Tomás also develops feelings for her but tries to hide them because of his position as priest. Both of them are unaware that Tomás and his brother Máximo (Tomás Fonzi) lead the business that killed her mother.

Upon discovering that Pilar had been adopted by the Mirandas, she took a job as a maid in their home. Upon the Mirandas' deaths, she came along with the children to work for Joaquín. To avoid revealing her true identity, she works under the assumed name of "Ramona".

It was from Rafael, a party musician, that Martin got his love of music and dance.

- On Labor Day in the year 2000, John Lavelle Lynn and Robert Arthur VanAllen, an owner and an employee of an auto salvage yard respectively, are murdered. Out of hundreds of potential witnesses, police eventually question Buddy Woodall, the nephew of one of the slain men. Woodall confesses, not to the murder, but to helping another man, David Wimberly, carry out the murder. The men are tried separately, and Woodall is convicted; but, due to lack of evidence, the case against Wimberly is dropped by the prosecutor. In 2014, the Supreme Court of Georgia upholds Woodall's conviction, despite alleged problems with the trial and conduct of the police. Buddy Woodall continues to maintain his innocence.
- While on a family outing, Lawrence DeLisle's Ford LTD station wagon is driven off the edge of a pier in Downriver, Michigan with himself, his wife, and all four of his children inside. When the car hits the water, the windshield shatters, allowing DeLisle and his wife to get free. Rescue workers attempt to save the four children, but all four never regain consciousness. DeLisle originally claims that his leg cramped, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, but later confesses during an interrogation his attorney would later liken to hypnosis. While the court rules the confession inadmissible, it is still made available to the media. In the ensuing trial by media, newspapers and television stations comment on the tape without directly reproducing it, which would be against the court order. Despite the confession never being read in court, the jury finds DeLisle guilty for four murders and one attempted murder of his wife on August 1, 1990. Despite exhausting all of his appeals, DeLisle continues to maintain his innocence, blaming the car instead.
