- Pat Morgan and Ted Kord are rival newspaper reporters always trying to outscoop each other. They join together to solve a series of murders being committed in an apartment building.
- All the boys except Marty mount up on their Triple R horses. They have a great time chasing a woodchuck on horseback. Ollie observes that Marty is afraid of horses and devises a plan to gently get him accustomed to being around them. He brings the horse Sky Rocket to repair a loose shoe and has Marty pet him. Oliie also reveals that last year Spin was afraid of horses at the start of camp, just like Marty is this year. Eventually, Ollie coaxes Marty into brushing Sky Rocket.

- An alien scientist and his team are sent to earth from their dying planet to exterminate the human population by unleashing monsters like vampires, werewolves, and mummies in order to inherit the earth.

A secret headquarters underneath a graveyard is the Earth headquarters of the Sapphirian takeover efforts. Starman arrives to rescue Yanamaka and his children, but they have been taken by rocket to the large space station that controls the Death Star. After knocking out the subsurface facility, Starman streaks into space in a second attempt to rescue the abductees. On the space station, Dr. Yanamaka's daughter, Kaoru, and Asami, a loyal team member, have done a lot to throw obstructions in the way of the Sapphirians. They are on the verge of escaping when the Sapphirians gain the upper hand. Yanamaka and the kids are about to be executed when Starman arrives. As Starman keeps the Sapphirian troops engaged, Dr. Yanamaka, his son and Asami escape in the Sapphirian rocket. Starman finishes off the battle and flies Kaoru to the ship. From there, they destroy the Sapphirian space-wheel base.

- Jerry Hampden, a young female reporter for a large newspaper, comes up with her first scoop - a suicide precipitated by a lover who lost interest. The publisher nixes the story because the perpetrator is the influential owner of a large department store chain. When she lets the publisher know her displeasure, she is canned on the spot. Needing a job somewhere far from the city, her beau sets her up with an offer to be an editor for a small town newspaper, the Advocate in Apex, California. Her first name of Jerry gets her in the door for an interview. The Advocate's owner, Sam Webster, is not pleased to see that he has offered the editor position to a woman. She lets him know that she is the "best editor in the world", that he would do well to let her have a month's trial. He agrees. She is able to turn the tide on paper's ledger. There is a big story brewing in the community. Many people have invested in a wildcat oil well drilling. The local banker has drawn in many local investors in return form a share of the investment funds. He fully expects the well to fail. Much to his surprise, the well hits a strong pocket of oil. He tries to suppress news of the discovery while he tries to quietly buy back some of the shares. Jerry blows the lid off his scheme. He threatens to take over the newspaper from Sam. But Jerry has the upper hand. Part of the oil take-over scheme is the same department store owner whose story led to her firing. In addition, she has evidence of a false report of the well failing on bank stationery. The two shysters are forced to sign agreements that will help the locals, not exploit them.
- Cicely is in a mixed-doubles bowling tournament and Michelle is their star bowler. Chris finally realizes he's romantically interested in Maggie and she seems to reciprocate the feeling. Michelle leaves Phil and moves into the Brick.

- Scott Yoo invites Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear to emulate Mozart's unbelievable talent to simultaneously perform a piano concerto, including improvised credenzas, and conduct the orchestra. No other living pianist has attempted this feat. The event is planned for the Festival Mozaic in San Luis Obispo, California, a venue in which Yoo conducts every summer. The focus of the exercise is Concerto No. 20 for piano and orchestra that was premiered February 10, 1785. The concertos were designed to help market Mozart's musical talents during 1784-86 in Vienna. Making this challenge more difficult is that Goodyear has no experience as a conductor. Yoo coaches Goodyear in elements of conducting that are refined through a week of rehearsals. In an attempt to push Goodyear toward a more modern sounding improvisation, Yoo invites jazz bassist Sue Cahill and drummer Clayton Cameron to jam with him. Also featured are excerpts from the overture to "The Marriage of Figaro" played by the festival orchestra plus Yoo and Goodyear playing the first movement of Violin Sonata 22.

An unsuspected ship shot a hole in the hull. Now that it has been fixed, Rocky, Winkie and Vena Ray head for Ophecius. They approach the planet faking an emergency with a broken retro-rocket. Queen Cleolanta agrees to let them land hoping to persuade them that Ophecius is a wonderful place to live. Unknown to Rocky and friends, she has used a device in her headquarters to put Bobby in a trance to sing of Ophecian virtues. She hopes to do the same to Rocky, but he is able to escape without it taking hold when Vena distracts him. Bobby recovers from his trance and tells Rocky that they are being held against their wills. He runs to the lab where Professor Newton is supposed to be helping the Ophecian develop advanced technologies. He manages to spring the professor free from his captors. Rocky also forces an Ophecian to reveal that Griff is the mole in the Office of Space Affairs that is leaking security information. The Orbit Jet blasts off with Winkie and Vena Ray at the controls as Rocky, the professor and Bobby scramble aboard.

Cleolanta is furious, even more so when she learns that Darganto was forced into revealing that Griff is the mole in the Office of Space Affairs. Griff is quickly warned that his cover is blown and instructed to set up some explosives that will destroy the Orbit Jet when it is on the launch pad. Griff overpowers Secretary of Space Drake and forces him at gunpoint to comply with his instructions. Rocky is suspicious when only Griff is available on the radio. When they finally arrive on Earth, he hops off to survey what is afoot. Griff temporarily gains the upper hand and forces Secretary Drake board the ship so he will be inside when it blows up. But Rocky uses a crane to gain access to the gantry and starts after Griff. While chasing Griff down, he discovers the timer for the explosives. He disconnects the wires and tells Winkie to take the Orbit Jet up in case there are other charges hidden. As Griff flees in an Office of Space Affairs car, Rocky is able to track him on security equipment and press a destruct button.

Marie-Chantal, a snobbish socialite, evades all attacks on her by sheer female cunning and shows tigerish qualities in dealing with both her male and female foes.
