Attieh, the girl, tries to convince him not to sell the place by, instead of telling him a story a day as Sheherazade, cooking him a delicious dish every day.

Although he is poor, he is also ambitious, and wants to change his life. He spends all his time on the beach, at Arpoador, Ipanema, where he dreams to become a famous surfer. Besides, he usually finds Patricia there, a rich and liberated young woman, whom he likes a lot. To impress Patricia and satisfy some of her wishes, he lets himself be seduced by André, a gay guy who, in return for his sexual favors, promises him a trip to Hawaii for a surf championship.
- Durval and his mother Carmita live at the back of "Durval Discos", a record store they own in São Paulo, specializing in vinyl records. They lead a boring and unattractive life, until the day Durval hires a maid, Celia, to help his mother with the housekeeping. However, on her second day, Celia goes away leaving a 5-year-old child behind, Kiki, and a note promising to be back in a couple of days. Durval and Celia are charmed by the child at first, but soon they see some sad news about Celia and Kiki on TV that will change the whole situation.
- Miniseries about Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s, when a politically-engaged student falls in love with a left-wing journalist's daughter who doesn't care for politics. The romance follows 15 years of Brazilian history, from President João Goulart's deposition by military reactionary forces to the first signs of restoration of democracy in the 1980s.
- Fashion designer Andréa Vargas finds out the hard way she is adopted. Her sister Júlia tells her so. Their relationship had always been difficult, since childhood, and the antagonism grew when Júlia separated her sister from her first true love, Diogo. But the worst is still to come: her first assistant in her atelier, Selma, is having an affair with her husband Bruno. Together they are planning to get hold of all her possessions and trademark. Later, she is going to find out that Selma's hatred and envy have a deep cause: they are both children of the same mother, Isaura, whom she never met.
- A group of eccentric people gather at a popular bar in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, doomed to be closed to give way to the construction of a big building. Intellectuals, artists, and night-people in general join forces to try to stop its demolition. Among its customers are actress Ana; her intellectual-type husband Zeca, in crisis about his work for TV; artists, newspapermen, a female researcher, and a couple who's always quarreling only to be reconciled moments later.

And, finally, in "Vereda Tropical" (Tropical Trail), a man becomes sexually obsessed by a watermelon, to the point of having sexual intercourse with it. The stories are based on prize-winner short stories, from a Status Magazine contest.
