In her new role, Cummins will oversee development and produce projects for the company, including those which Plec will create and write, and those for which she will supervise other writers.

Sex Education's Maeve Wiley may have a complicated relationship status, but the actress who plays her, Emma Mackey, is definitely taken. The 24-year-old French-born actress is currently dating fellow actor Dan Whitlam, who studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and often performs in London theater productions.
Mackey is pretty tight-lipped about her personal life, but the two have been dating since at least January 2018, when the couple first made their relationship Instagram official, and they've been looking cute as heck together ever since. Though they rarely pose for photos, here are just some of the couple's cutest moments over the past two years.

Netflix can’t stop. And they don’t want to stop. With every coming week, it seems something new is released for immediate consumption. This couldn’t be more true with their latest release: Sex Education Season 2. It is here, and it picks up right from where we left off last year with a sense of seamless continuity. Season 2 feels like a direct extension of its predecessor, which isn’t always the case with later seasons of a tv series, whether it be lazy writing or sudden time jumps. But Sex Education smartly grows the premises, issues, and developments present in last year’s debut season while also adding a handful of additional arcs and characters to its already large cast (18 main cast members to be exact).

The second season of Sex Education premiered on Jan. 17 and, just like the first, nothing is off limits. The Netflix series tackles topics relating to sexuality and identity that are often watered down for television or ignored entirely, and uses honesty and humor to thrust them into the spotlight. From sexual assault, to anal douching, asexuality, and how religion relates to the Lgbtq+ experience, all topics are approached thoughtfully, and in a way that's not often shown on screen.
Unlike many TV shows in the dramedy genre, Sex Education never box ticks for the sake of it, yet the show is unquestionably inclusive. The show's creator and writer, Laurie Nunn, crafted an ensemble of characters that are layered and intersectional, and most importantly believable. One character this is especially true for, is Eric (Ncuti Gatwa).

Edward Norton won a Golden Globe for his film debut in 1996’s “Primal Fear” and, at Thursday night’s 35th Annual Artios Awards ceremony, he shared the innovative way he nabbed the audition by making the most of the electronic communications of the day.
“I sent a fax to her at Paramount. Dating myself,” Norton said while presenting Artios’ Hoyt Bowers Award for Excellence in Casting to the film’s casting director Deborah Aquila. “Trying to desperately say I was, [that] you saw me for this animated short in front of an independent at Sundance, or something like that, and I’d love to get in [for an audition].
“[Aquila] responded to it. I got that audition,” Norton recalled. “She was seeing thousands and thousands of people for that part. What happened, happened, and then there were lots of stories about the way it could have gone down. It started to kind of focus on me.

The former child star has won rave reviews for the hit Netflix show. So why does he feel ambivalent about acting?
Ah, yes, says Asa Butterfield, the young star of the explicit and brilliant comedy of sex manners, Sex Education. Butterfield is recalling one of the stranger milestones of his acting career, “my first, big, on-camera wank. That was a fun day on set.” With a second series of the hit Netflix show due to debut online soon, the 21-year-old Londoner has come to a diner in King’s Cross to eat an oozing burger and talk with some pride about a show that first set the internet humming back in January 2019. Part hyperactive teen comedy and part public health broadcast, Sex Education, created by British/Australian screenwriter Laurie Nunn, turned out to be that rare cultural thing: a show that filled a hole we didn’t know was there.

As a grown woman, Gillian Anderson knows about the birds and the bees. But playing a sex therapist on Netflix’s “Sex Education” did actually teach her something about intercourse she didn’t already know: the word vaginitis. See Jean, the “X-Files” alum’s character, is a very well-respected professional within her field and she has books upon books lining her shelves, all filled with facts about the male and female anatomies that embarrass the heck out of her teenage son, Otis (played by Asa Butterfield). And so Anderson had to learn the terminology that Jean, a smartypants when it comes to unzipping your pants, uses in everyday conversation. Unfortunately, the definition of vaginitis has since escaped her. “Couldn’t tell you what it means,” Anderson told TheWrap in a recent interview, which you can see above. “But I looked it up and then I think I said it. And it’s gone.

The Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield-headlined teen comedy series Sex Education returns for a second season on Netflix.
Sex Education is matriculating for another semester of awkwardly idiosyncratic hormonal hijinks, thanks to a second season on Netflix.
It only took the streaming giant a few weeks to give a passing grade and greenlight Sex Education Season 2, yielding another 8-episode run, with the series getting a renewal in early February 2019 following its premiere on January 11. (Check out our review of Sex Education.)
The series, a British export from Eleven, is the creation of Laurie Nunn, for whom it served as a major coming out party after having only fielded some short films. The story centers on awkward high school teen Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) whose knowledge of human sexuality from his sex therapist mother Jean (Gillian Anderson) is utilized to take on the role of a secret...

Constance Cummings: Actress in minor Hollywood movies became major London stage star. Constance Cummings: Actress went from Harold Lloyd and Frank Capra to Noël Coward and Eugene O'Neill Actress Constance Cummings, whose career spanned more than six decades on stage, in films, and on television in both the U.S. and the U.K., died ten years ago on Nov. 23. Unlike other Broadway imports such as Ann Harding, Katharine Hepburn, Miriam Hopkins, and Claudette Colbert, the pretty, elegant Cummings – who could have been turned into a less edgy Constance Bennett had she landed at Rko or Paramount instead of Columbia – never became a Hollywood star. In fact, her most acclaimed work, whether in films or – more frequently – on stage, was almost invariably found in British productions. That's most likely why the name Constance Cummings – despite the DVD availability of several of her best-received performances – is all but forgotten.

Marc Allégret: From André Gide lover to Simone Simon mentor (photo: Marc Allégret) (See previous post: "Simone Simon Remembered: Sex Kitten and Femme Fatale.") Simone Simon became a film star following the international critical and financial success of the 1934 romantic drama Lac aux Dames, directed by her self-appointed mentor – and alleged lover – Marc Allégret.[1] The son of an evangelical missionary, Marc Allégret (born on December 22, 1900, in Basel, Switzerland) was to have become a lawyer. At age 16, his life took a different path as a result of his romantic involvement – and elopement to London – with his mentor and later "adoptive uncle" André Gide (1947 Nobel Prize winner in Literature), more than 30 years his senior and married to Madeleine Rondeaux for more than two decades. In various forms – including a threesome with painter Théo Van Rysselberghe's daughter Elisabeth – the Allégret-Gide relationship remained steady until the late '20s and their trip to...

'Cat People' 1942 actress Simone Simon Remembered: Starred in Jacques Tourneur's cult horror movie classic (photo: Simone Simon in 'Cat People') Pert, pouty, pretty Simone Simon is best remembered for her starring roles in Jacques Tourneur's cult horror movie Cat People (1942) and in Jean Renoir's French film noir La Bête Humaine (1938). Long before Brigitte Bardot, Mamie Van Doren, Ann-Margret, and (for a few years) Jane Fonda became known as cinema's Sex Kittens, Simone Simon exuded feline charm in a film career that spanned a quarter of a century. From the early '30s to the mid-'50s, she seduced men young and old on both sides of the Atlantic – at times, with fatal results. During that period, Simon was featured in nearly 40 movies in France, Italy, Germany, Britain, and Hollywood. Besides Jean Renoir, in her native country she worked for the likes of Jacqueline Audry...

"Cabaret" 40th Anniversary New York Screening at Ziegfeld Theatre on January 31, 2013.
Last Thursday I was planning on spending a quiet evening at home curled up with some reading or knitting, or possibly sweeping my kitchen. After all, the arctic temperatures and gale force winds in NYC were not exactly enticement to leave one's home or pajamas. But when I got the invite to attend the 40th(-ish) anniversary screening of Cabaret at the historic Ziegfield Theater and to chat with some of its legendary cast on the red carpet, I put down the knitting, the book And the broom - for life is, after all these years, still a cabaret.
If anything was reason enough for me to freeze my tail feathers off on a Thursday night, it was the chance to meet Liza Minnelli,...
