Sex & Nudity
-
- One conjoined twin kisses her lover, which appears to excite the other twin.
- One conjoined twin is married; the two are seen making the bed they both share with that twin's husband.
- A trapeze artist, who clearly is having a sexual relationship with the strong man, maliciously flirts with another woman's beloved.
- A young couple embrace and kiss.
- One of the characters is a "half man/half woman" -- a popular "human oddity" of the time in which a person would use exercise, clothing, cosmetics, etc. to appear to be male on one side of the body and female on the other.
Violence & Gore
-
- A man/woman is punched.
- A woman attempts to poison a man repeatedly.
Profanity
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Some characters get drunk, and a man smokes a cigar.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The freaks are deformed. However, it should be understood that the entire point of the film is that they are possibly better people than those who are "normal", and that as freakish as they may look, they are not freaks.
- The ending can be considered frightening and intense (see violence and gore) and is aimed at rattling viewers.
Spoilers
Violence & Gore
- In the end of the film two characters are attacked, one resulting in a fistfight, and a man has a knife thrown into his chest, and then is stabbed by a large group of people (offscreen).
- The other character tries to escape, but we learn later that she has had all of her limbs cut off and deformed such that she can only squawk as opposed to talk, this is probably the most frightening moment in the film.
