The newspaper held by Mr. Jones has the same headline that appears in another Hal Roach studio feature, Laurel and Hardy's "Sons of the Desert" from 1933. The newspaper headline (The Los Angeles Daily Bulletin) reads ""HONOLULU LINER SINKING! FOUNDERING IN TYPHOON." The same newspaper may still have been in the props department at Roach Studios and was put to use for this later LR short.
One of the crooks tells the Dukes that they are in trouble with their wives "for overstaying their time at the Convention", just like Laurel and Hardy were in deep Dutch for going to the S.O.T.D. convention whe they were supposed to be in Hawaii for Ollie's health.
