Those of us that remember when a Netflix subscription meant having DVDs mailed to your home are more than aware of how the rise of the streaming service has revolutionized the way people consume media. There’s now so many options available that most folks can’t afford to shell out for them all, with HBO Max and NBC Universal’s Peacock entering the fray in the last few weeks and already amassing a combined total of 15 million customers.
Despite the competition getting fiercer than ever, Netflix’s position at the top of the food chain seems almost unassailable at this point, with the company boasting over 100 million more subscribers than their closest rivals over at Amazon. It seems like Netflix are releasing a new high profile original series or movie every other week this summer, but the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic has seen viewership increase exponentially across all platforms,...

Whilst appearing on the latest episode of Animal Crossing talk show Animal Talk, actress Brie Larson, who’s best known for portraying Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed interest in playing the character of Samus in a potential film adaptation of the popular video game franchise Metroid.
When asked about the idea and if it could happen, she said:
“She was always my character that I played in Super Smash Bros. and I definitely [will] not put a squash to that story.”
Created by Nintendo in 1986, Metroid started out as a science fiction-themed platformer and shoot-em-up in which players can control a masked warrior armed with a laser pistol. Since its initial release, the game has spawned dozens of sequels which span virtually all generations of consoles, and together comprise one of the best-selling video game series of all time.
As a character, Samus has all the hallmarks of your typical action hero.

During her Comic-Con@Home appearance Friday, Charlize Theron reflected on the evolution of the modern female action star.”The good news now is that we’ve changed the genre for women,” she said. “We now know you we can’t hide behind ignorance anymore. Audiences love these films. They love how were now telling these narratives with women at the core,”
Talking about her first action role in 2003’s The Italian Job, Theron talked about the “misconception around women” and “unfair process” she experienced.
“The Italian Job was a great experience in the sense that I realized there was still so much misconception around women in the genre,” she said. “There was a very unfair process that went with that. I was the only woman with a bunch of guys, and I remember vividly getting the schedule in our pre-production and they had scheduled me for six weeks more hard...

Following massive viewership numbers and an end-credit scene suggesting the story isn’t finished being told, it would seem a sequel to the Netflix and Skydance action pic The Old Guard is a foregone conclusion. As the studio figures out next steps on where to take its team of immortals, it also appears to be true that fans of the first film shouldn’t expect another installment any time soon.
Sources say no talks have occurred with the film’s writer Greg Rucka, who also created the original graphic novel series, to return, but they add those talks could happen soon, with either Rucka returning or possibly a new scribe to take over. Either way, with multiple storylines from which to draw in the comic series, the real reason fans will have to wait a while before a sequel pops up on their Netflix queue has less to do with...

The reteam of Ryan Reynolds with his Free Guy filmmaker Shawn Levy has been scooped up by Netflix.
The time travel adventure project was initially set up at Paramount eight years ago with Tom Cruise attached. The latest draft is being penned by Jonathan Tropper off screenplays by Ts Nowlin and Mark Levin & Jennifer Flackett. The earlier version of the script focused on an astronaut who travels back in time and works with his younger self.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger are producing the feature, previously known as Our Name Is Adam for Skydance. Paramount and Skydance first closed the deal for the project back in October 2012, as Deadline first reported.
Reynolds previously made the Michael Bay directed action feature 6 Underground at Netflix. Skydance recently debuted the Charlize Theron hit Old Guard on the streaming service.

The release of The Old Guard could not have gone better. Whether it’s the great critical response, rising up Netflix’s Top 10 charts or fans already demanding a sequel, it’s safe to say we will eventually see a follow up to the Charlize Theron action movie. While the streaming service has yet to officially green light it, the groundwork has already been laid.
Based on a graphic novel of the same name, The Old Guard has plenty of mythology to build upon. And judging by the ending, that’s exactly what the filmmakers were intending. This is your warning of Spoilers Ahead.
A driving force behind the plot is that four immortals led by Andy (Theron) discover, after centuries of fighting together, that a fifth person with the gift exists. What does it mean? Why now? These are questions that aren’t fully answered as the plot quickly...

Charlize Theron teased the possibility of a follow-up to her Netflix original action film The Old Guard. On Wednesday night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress shared that there’s material and relationships from the first movie worth exploring in a sequel.

Project Power (L to R) Jamie Foxx as Art in Project Power Cr. Skip Bolen/Netflix © 2020
Coming to Netflix on August 14 is Project Power. The film is directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost.
What would you risk for five minutes of pure power? On the streets of New Orleans, word begins to spread about a mysterious new pill that unlocks superpowers unique to each user. The catch: You don’t know what will happen until you take it. While some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a deadlier reaction. But when the pill escalates crime within the city to dangerous levels, a local cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) teams with a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) and a former soldier fueled by a secret vendetta (Jamie Foxx) to fight power with power and risk taking the pill in order to track down and stop the group responsible for creating it.

Shooting a love scene is not so different than filming an action sequence.
Just ask director Gina Prince-Bythewood, who makes her action debut with Netflix’s “The Old Guard.” Until now, she’s been known for romantic dramas like “Love and Basketball” and “Beyond the Lights.”
“Have a beginning, middle and end. Make sure it’s character-driven. Make sure it’s emotional. Bring that same thing to the action scenes,” Prince-Bythewood said Tuesday during a 92nd Street Y conversation with “Old Guard” star KiKi Layne and fellow filmmaker Barry Jenkins. “Starting with that gave me the language to talk to my stunt team.”
“The Old Guard,” based on the graphic novel of the same name, stars Charlize Theron as Andy, the 6,700-year-old leader of a small group of fellow immortal mercenaries. Layne co-stars as Nile, a Marine who discovers she’s also immortal.

Have you seen The Old Guard on Netflix yet? Judging by how popular the new Charlize Theron action movie is right now on the streaming platform, I’d say most fans have. It’s really the first big new movie to come along in quite some time and it’s also pretty good thanks to the direction by Gina Prince-Bythewood, some thrilling set pieces, fascinating mythology and the relationships between the characters.
And everyone involved knew going in that if it was successful, it could lead to more films. Why else would they include that extra scene at the end, which clearly sets up a sequel? The internet is already clamoring for one and Prince-Bythewood is hopeful that they’ll be able to make it.
But about that ending – what exactly does it mean? Well, early on in the story, it’s revealed that Andy (Theron) is not the oldest immortal.
