Not A Bad Little Genre Film

Secrets of a Nurse is a tight little Universal programmer in which a beaten up prizefighter played by Dick Foran gets a job as a hotel bellboy but is falsely accused of a killing and sent to prison. Some of the sympathy for the underdog, framed by a corrupt society, may be due to lefty screenwriter Lester Cole who was later blacklisted. Helen Mack is likeable as the hospital nurse who tries to cheer up him and other patients though there is some religiosity thrown in toward the end when she prays. Character actors like Paul Hurst lend good support and there is some nice lighting by Elwood Bredell.
