- Johnny Dawson, the Cyclone KId, is a professional gunfighter in the employ of Big Bill Johnson (Alex Callam), cattle rancher who objects to ranchers homesteading government land which he considers his own. Bill Dawson (John James), Johnny's younger brother, appears in town unexpectedly , and Johnny, not wishing his brother to know his profession, curtails his activities. He has used his gun tom put his brother through medical school, expecting him to remain back east to practice.Rancher John Sullivan (Jack Rockwell) is killed in cold blood by Johnson's henchmen and Bill Dawson openly goes over to the side of the small ranchers and homesteaders. It is obvious that Johnson has "bought" out the local law-enforcement agencies, and the trial of Sullivan;s killer is a travesty of justice. Johnson orders Johnny to run his brother out of town but Bill dissuades his brother from continuing as one of Johnson's gunman, and Johnny goes over to the side of the homesteaders. In a pitched-battle between the two factions, Mary Phillips (Lynn Merrick), daughter of Judge Phillips (Joel Friedkin), one of those law-enforcers in the employ of Johnson, is dangerously wounded. With his daughter near death, the Judge vows to produce evidence that will incriminate Johnson, even though he knows it will do the same for himself. Johnny has all the ranchers and homesteaders sign a petition the the region be placed under martial law. Johnny and Judge Phillips start for the state capitol, but the Johnson gang murders the Judge and sends a telegram ahead to the capitol charging Johnny with the killing.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
