problem with baby
SnoopyStyle30 January 2020
Larry, Curly, and Moe find a baby left on their doorstep by a woman. They try to feed the baby with limited success. The cops are looking for a baby and the kidnappers. When the cops show up, the guys have to hide the baby.

I don't like that they dump the baby out the window and then take off. It's convenient that the kid ends up in their car. Quite frankly, the guys are not the best playing around with a baby. They are good with food being thrown at them but otherwise, they can't throw it back. The inciting premise of the cop and his wife is less nice than the movie wants it to be. I'm not sure if the guys are good with babies. This has some laughs and some problems.

The best of the 'baby' shorts
csweetleaf226 May 2003
I thought that this was one of the boys 'overlooked' shorts and it seems that this short isn't a hardcore favorite, I thought that this short was awesome, like the scenes when they try the diaper on Curly, when Larry buys the baby beer, when the baby throws spaghetti at Moe, when Curly couldn't pronounce artichoke and Moe tells Curly that it is 'you oughta choke', or when Larry uses a pair of scissors and accidentally stab Moe's butt, the best part of the short is the chase scene.

One of the Better Stooges Shorts

Sock-a-Bye Baby (1942)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Hilarious shorts has The Three Stooges waking up from a deep sleep after hearing a baby crying. Thinking it's a tomcat, the boys go out on the porch to throw shoes at it but they then see a baby in a basket and plan on becoming fathers. The plan is going well until they hear that a baby has been kidnapped.

SOCK-A-BYE BABY is one of the better shorts from the Stooges as it contains pretty much one big laugh right after another. There are so many funny moments here but one of the highlights has to be the sequence where the three men are sleeping on the floor and Curly thinks he tickling the baby but of course it turns out to be Moe. The slapstick violence that the boys are best remembered for is one full display here but the best moments of the film simply show them trying their hardest to be good fathers but just always doing something wrong. There's also some very funny dialogue here including one line dealing with a certain member being one-third a father.

Very good Three Stooges short!
Movie Nuttball28 October 2004
The Three Stooges has always been some of the many actors that I have loved. I love just about every one of the shorts that they have made. I love all six of the Stooges (Curly, Shemp, Moe, Larry, Joe, and Curly Joe)! All of the shorts are hilarious and also star many other great actors and actresses which a lot of them was in many of the shorts! In My opinion The Three Stooges is some of the greatest actors ever and is the all time funniest comedy team!

In My opinion this is a very funny short. Appearing in this short subject are Bud Jamison, Dudley Dickerson, Joyce Gardner, Julie Gibson, and Clarence Straight. The baby scenes with The Stooges are extremely funny and the cop scenes are cool. In My opinion those scenes are before their time! I recommend this Three Stooges short!

Baby boom

Warning: Spoilers
"Sock-a-Bye Baby" is an American 18-minute live action short film from the days of World War II, so this one had its 75th anniversary, and the name of director and 4-time Oscar nominee Jules white tells you already that here we got another Three Stooges work, not one of their earlier efforts and even less one of their latter works. The writer is Clyde Bruckman and he is mostly known today for his collaborations with Buster Keaton. The title gives away already that the trio (still with Curly) ends up with a baby this time and that is a plot idea that has been used so many times in decades afterward. If you look at the popularity of the Rascals (Our Gang), then you will not be surprised that the Stooges were taking on that idea too, even if it was years later and the Rascals were a bit older. Of course, it is the Stooges that carry the comedy and not the baby that is actually just a tool for the comedy. Actually this film here is a remade itself and one of those that the Stooges did not remake themselves years later. As for the quality, I am not convinced by the story and supporting characters here and the comedy wasn't on a level either where I would recommend. There is a reason why only the very biggest Stooges fans have heard of / seen this one. It's just not that good in any area and so I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.

"Oh, I forgot, I'm one third of a father."

Warning: Spoilers
Directed by Jules White, "Sock-a-Bye Baby" is not a bad Three Stooges comedy. Curly, Moe, and Larry find an abandoned infant named Jimmy on their doorstep and immediately take a liking to him. Then they decide to fix a banquet for Jimmy, featuring the most inappropriate foods for a baby.

Highlights: While cutting a cloth, Larry stabs Moe in the posterior with the scissors. Jimmy giggles when he observes all three Stooges crying. Moe rhythmically pronounces all the foods the Stooges prepared for the baby while Curly dances. Moe gets an olive pit in his eye, and Jimmy laughs off-camera. During the lengthy chase scene, Moe extends his arm to signal a turn and grabs a laborer's bottle.

I'm sure there are parents out there who would detest watching the Three Stooges taking care of an infant. In the boys' defense, they truly WANTED to be good fathers, but they just didn't know how. Besides, the child was never harmed. It was actually Jimmy's MOTHER who started all the trouble!
