Patricia Collinge and Teresa Wright also played mother and daughter in Sir Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943), as well as aunt and niece (by marriage) in The Little Foxes (1941).
The production hired 26 infants who were each paid $75/day. Under state welfare laws, the babies could only "work" at the studio 2 hours/day, and spend only 20 minutes in front of the cameras, and only 30 seconds at a time under the intense studio lights.
According to a contemporary article in The Hollywood Reporter, this film had its world premiere on 8 August 1944 at 16 different sites in newly-liberated France. It was shown to soldiers in outdoor theaters across Normandy.
