“American Born Chinese” has been canceled after one season at Disney+, Variety has learned.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decision, Disney was high on the creative of the series, but its viewership did not justify greenlighting a second season. The producers plan to shop the series to other outlets.
“American Born Chinese” debuted on Disney+ on May. The Disney Branded Television series was based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang. The official logline states that the show “chronicles the trials and tribulations of a regular American teenager whose life is forever changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god.”
The cast of the series included Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jimmy Liu, Ke Huy Quan, Sydney Taylor, and Daniel Wu. The show received positive reviews from critics, with the first season holding a 94% approval rating based on 51 reviews.

Legendary Comics has teamed up with the Lugosi Estate and Kerry Gammill, to develop a new graphic novel for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and it will feature the likeness of legendary Dracula and horror movie actor Bela Lugosi.
The story is set in the late 19th Century, “Dracula, an ancient Transylvanian vampire, moves to England to find fresh blood and spread his evil contagion. There, he encounters two women, Lucy and Mina, who become the targets of his dark obsession. Aided by a group of brave men, Professor Van Helsing arrives on the scene to take on the Vampire Prince in the ultimate battle between the forces of light and dark!”
The art for the comic will be created by El Garing, and Robert Napton, Senior Vice President of Legendary Comics had this to say in a statement:

We’ve only got three episodes of Game of Thrones left before the show comes to an end. Last week fans were treated to an epic battle that was met with mixed reactions from fans. While I personally enjoyed it, my biggest complaint was that it was way too dark! It would have been nice to actually see the battle! Regardless of that, I liked how the story played out.
Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin sat down with Fast Company for an interview and opened up about how he feels about killing off characters, whether or not they were good or bad. He also talked about The Avengers and how he was inspired by the character Wonder Man, how he was a bad guy who only pretends to be a good guy, but in the end, actually turns out being a good guy.

As we all know now, Nathan Fillion was set to appear as Wonder Man aka Simon Williams in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. There was originally a scene in the film set on Earth that featured a Simon Williams Film Festival. There were a bunch of fake movie posters designed for this scene that featured Fillion as actor Simon Williams. But, because of timing and pace, he had to be cut, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still want to play the part.
Recently in a radio interview, Fillion talked about his role in the now-deleted scene and expressed his desire to play it again in the future.
"If you know the Marvel Universe, Simon Williams becomes Wonder Man, becomes an Avenger. So, he’s part of that universe. It was a neat little Easter egg, it was a neat little piece of the universe.

Will those tongue-in-cheek Simon Williams Easter eggs lead to Wonder Man‘s addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Nathan Fillion certainly hopes so.
Barring tie-in posters for the original Guardians of the Galaxy, Fillion’s depiction of Simon Williams/Wonder Man has largely been relegated to the sidelines, and a Guardians 2 set picture featuring the actor in full costume as the “douchey actor/superhero” prompted an extensive post from James Gunn explaining why Nathan Fillion didn’t make the cut.
But if anything, the decision to pull Wonder Man’s cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has only fuelled Fillion’s ambition to introduce Simon Williams to the McU in the not-so-distant future. While appearing on The Ara Show on Kiss FM (via Cbr), the fan-favorite actor offered some context to that scrapped Easter egg scene, before hinting that there is now an “opportunity” to welcome Williams to the fray – for real,...

Recently we have learned that Nathan Fillion, star of the cult television series Firefly and the film Serenity, has joined the cast of Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events for its second season. In the past Fillion has appeared in many comic book films as a voice actor. He is mostly known for voicing Hal Jordan in some of DC's animated films like Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox and Justice League: Doom. He has one live action comic book role in Guardians of the Galaxy, in the form of an unnamed Kyln prisoner that Groot take easily takes out.
He recently had a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which unfortunately got cut. In the same way we saw a Batman poster during Man of Steel, Fillion's cameo, or easter egg if you want to call it that instead,...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has only just been released this last month and people are already wondering about what the next film will entail. While James Gunn hasn't revealed too much, he's been good at answering questions to the best of his ability.
Of the many questions that he's been asked on Facebook, one fan asked if Peter Quill will remain the only human in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Gunn responded with this:
"Human characters are no longer out of consideration."
Brief and to the point, but what a point it makes! It doesn't necessarily mean that there will be humans, but the possibility is now out there. So many characters would be fun to see in space with the crew. Nathan Fillion has been teased as being the McU's Wonder Man in fake movie posters. Although the scene was cut, It would be great to...

So now that Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 is out and there was no Nathan Fillion to be found, what was he supposed to do in the film? According to director James Gunn, Fillion was playing Wonder Man's alter ego Simon Williams, who was starring in a Hollywood biopic about Iron Man, entitled Tony Stark.
Basically, the joke is that the guy who is secretly Wonder Man is starring in a film about the billionaire philanthropist who everyone knows as Iron Man. Originally, this poster was supposed to be featured in a shot on Earth, but Gunn says he cut it as it slowed down the film. I would love if one day the idea is revisited and we see a trailer for Fillion pretending to be Tony Stark when he's actually Wonder Man! Wouldn't that be awesome?
Here's what Gunn had to say about it on his Facebook...

For months, fans were excited to see Firefly star Nathan Fillion cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Though the actor had lent his voice to an alien in the first movie, this promised to be a more substantial role, as he was playing Simon Williams/Wonder Man. Unfortunately, however, when the sequel hit theatres, Fillion was nowhere in sight. So what gives?
Thankfully, director James Gunn has taken to Facebook today to explain “the full story” behind the cameo and just why it was eventually left on the cutting room floor. It’s a lengthy post, but well worth the read.
“As many of you know one of my best friends in the world is Nathan Fillion. Along with Michael Rooker and Gregg Henry he’s been in every movie I’ve directed – even as a monstrous, perverted voice in Guardians of the Galaxy. I didn’t have...

James Gunn talks about why Nathan Fillion isn't in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and what his cut scene would've been.
Nathan Fillion and James Gunn have had a long history. Fillion was the star in the first film Gunn ever directed, the deliciously grotesque Slither. He also has appeared in every film since then, including as the voice of a digital prison punk in 2014’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Yet he is nowhere to be seen in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, the box office-crushing Marvel Studios extravaganza.
Now James Gunn has taken to Facebook to come clean on why Fillion, a space opera icon in his own right after Firefly, was not boarded in the final version of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2. Once again, Gunn confirms that Fillion actually was going to play a relatively important bush league superhero from the Marvel comics universe,...

Update from James Gunn:

The photo you see above was shared by Nathan Fillion and it features a scene he was in that was cut out of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The image came with the following note from the actor:
"From a scene you won't see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Is the movie still spectacular without it? Yes."
Fillion looks absolutely hilarious in his space barbarian-looking costume. There was a rumor that Fillion was supposed to be playing Simon Williams aka Wonder Man in the film, but this photo doesn't really line up with that rumor.
It looks to me like he was just some kind of space barbarian, which is still cool!

As if the cast of David Raymond’s psychological thriller Nomis wasn’t enviable enough, The Hollywood Reporter brings word today of some new recruits.
With Henry Cavill (Sand Castle), Ben Kingsley and Baywatch star Alexandra Daddario already locked in, THR has confirmed that Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion and Minka Kelly have all climbed on board alongside fellow newcomers Brendan Fletcher and Mpho Koaho. Little is currently known about how each of their respective characters factor into the storyline, but we understand David Raymond’s genre movie centers on “an American police force that traps an online predator, only to realize the depth of his crimes goes far beyond anything anticipated.” The Zodiac Killer for a digital age? Color us intrigued.

It was just a matter of time until Nathan Fillion popped up in a "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie. He and director James Gunn are friends who have collaborated numerous times. A video has surfaced from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that really makes me wonder what is going to happen in this story. The movie is currently shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, and the scene you are about to watch was shot in the neighboring town of Cartersville.
What makes this so interesting is that whatever scene this entails takes place on Earth in a modern day setting, so it’s not a flashback. The scene features a crowd of people screaming in fear as they run down the street, and behind them we see several cars being thrown into the air, which I imagine means they are probably being shot at by some kind of spacecraft.

If there was one word most viewers would likely use to describe 2014's Guardians Of The Galaxy, it'd probably be "fun." From the quirky characters to the film's action and general visual splendor, it's safe to say that it exceeded most expectations. The movie even had a lot of fun with one of its cameos. Most film nerds now know that the giant blue alien that picked a fight with our hero in the prison sequence was actually Nathan Fillion in deep disguise. It was a, dare I say, fun little Easter egg that scifi fans adored.
Well, it looks like Fillion's going two-for-two when it comes to Guardians cameos, Comicbook.com revealed in a new series of photos snapped from the set of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. What's more, the Castle and Firefly actor looks to be playing a role that has ties to deep within the comic book lore.

The movie posters outside of the theater feature a series of movies featuring an actor that is played by Fillion in various movie character roles. One of those movies looks like a Tony Stark biopic. That tells us this is most likely set on a present-day Earth.

It would seem James Gunn has drafted his old pal Nathan Fillion (Serenity, Slither) in for an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, playing none other than Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man. In the comics Williams started out as a villain before putting his wicked ways behind him and joining The Avengers. He later retired to pursue and acting career, which is referenced by these mock movie posters that were sent to Comicbook.com. Whether Fillion actually shows up onscreen as Williams in the movie or not remains to be seen of course, as there's every chance these posters will just be used as background easter eggs. Still, pretty cool I'm sure you'll agree. The Masters of Evil pack will – unsurprisingly – include some dastardly Marvel baddies as they attempt to lure Earth’s Mightiest Heroes out to defeat them. This set will include eleven playable characters such as Baron Zemo and two versions of Black Knight.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe & Avengers: Endgame has an army of amazing characters. So you won't be seeing These clowns anytime soon.
Nearly everyone who has ever put on a costume in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie will return in Avengers: Endgame. Yes, even the dead ones. Marvel Studios has assembled one huge roster of heroes.
But during the history of the comic book Avengers, even more great champions have joined the team’s ever swelling ranks. You have heroes She-Hulk, Hercules, Wonder Man, the obscure fan favorite Quasar, the Black Knight, and you even have some of Marvel’s mightiest mutants like the Beast, Wolverine, and Storm.
One thing is for certain, whatever happens in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios will still have a ton of great characters to choose from if it desires to grow the legendary ranks of Marvel’s greatest team of champions.

Teresa Wright-Samuel Goldwyn association comes to a nasty end (See preceding post: "Teresa Wright in 'Shadow of a Doubt': Alfred Hitchcock Heroine in His Favorite Film.") Whether or not because she was aware that Enchantment wasn't going to be the hit she needed – or perhaps some other disagreement with Samuel Goldwyn or personal issue with husband Niven Busch – Teresa Wright, claiming illness, refused to go to New York City to promote the film. (Top image: Teresa Wright in a publicity shot for The Men.) Goldwyn had previously announced that Wright, whose contract still had another four and half years to run, was to star in a film version of J.D. Salinger's 1948 short story "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut." Instead, he unceremoniously – and quite publicly – fired her.[1] The Goldwyn organization issued a statement, explaining that besides refusing the assignment to travel to New York to help generate pre-opening publicity for Enchantment,...

This one looks... interesting. Age Of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies #1 goes on sale June 3, and will see The Vision, Wonder Man, original Human Torch Jim Hammond and another mystery character (I think it might be Tigra) exiled to a world overrun with Ultron's armies and the undead versions of the Marvel roster. “Getting sent to this No Man’s Land means you’ve done something wrong in Battleworld,” editor Mark Paniccia explains to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s equivalent to having to walk the plank over shark-infested waters. In this story you’ll see someone who is deemed a criminal sentenced to this very dangerous territory—a character I can’t mention—but is a really cool twist that James came up with.” But just because both armies are trying to wipe out the heroes doesn't mean they're working together. “They war for whatever humanity they can find, with Ultron wishing...

Over the years, Marvel has done a ton of crossover comics, one of the most recent was The Avengers and Attack on Titan. It was short, but it was really freakin' cool. Affter doing a little research I came across six Marvel crossover comics that were ridiculous. The comic book publisher sure has some doozies over the years. Most of them offer some good, fun entertainment, while others simply sucked. Check out the list below:
Eminem/Punisher - Kill You
In 2009, Frank Castle and Marshall Mathers team up after the Punisher kills a bunch of Eminem’s bodyguards over a misunderstanding. After a concert, Punisher stops the limo from leaving so Slim-Shady and his entourage get out angrily to make him get out of the way. So what does Punisher do? He just automatically opens fire, killing many of them. After Eminem pistol whips Punisher, and an assassin named Barracuda...

This is, to put it plainly, one hell of a time to be a comic book nerd. All my favorite characters(*) are making the leap from the page to either the big or small screen. Marvel can seemingly do no wrong with its film output, turning an obscure and downright goofy property like "Guardians of the Galaxy" into one of the year's biggest and most beloved hits. TV's most popular comedy ("Big Bang Theory") has a comic book shop as one of its primary sets, and a main character often seen in Flash and Green Lantern t-shirts. TV's most popular drama series ("The Walking Dead") is based on a long-running comic book, and there are currently five other comic-based shows airing on the broadcast networks (ABC's "Marvel's Agents of Shield," Fox's "Gotham," NBC's "Constantine" and the CW's "Arrow" and "The Flash"), with more coming fast. (The CW has "iZombie" set for mid-season,...

George Rr Martin made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 but not for the reason most fans would think. While “Game of Thrones” has rocketed Martin to a level of fame rare for authors, his body of work stretches over four decades. Two of those have recently been turned into graphic novels with Avatar Comics. “In The House Of The Worm” was illustrated by Ivan Rodriguez and adapted by Jon Joseph Miller. The story is set far, far future and our sun is finally going out. A small remnant of humanity is left and they’ve retreated into an underground bunkers, living a hedonistic lifestyle of leisure while tunnels below them are lost in darkness. Martin describes it as “A baroque horror almost.” “Skin Trade” is a horror framework housing a hard-boiled noir story. A female private detective werewolf living and working in a decaying Mid-Western town. But while Martin...

The X-Men have been around for more than 50 years. They multiply: rapidly, frequently, endlessly. They aren’t really a superteam like the Justice League or the Avengers, those all-star crews built out of solo-series stars (Superman, Captain America) mixed together with B-list glue characters (Martian Manhunter, Wonder Man). With one very obvious exception and a few other arguable exceptions, the X-Men aren’t Solo-Star people. They are a team.
Or rather, teams. Chris Claremont’s iconic decade-and-a-half run on Uncanny X-Men cemented the idea that the X-lineup was eternally fluid: Characters died, left on sabbatical, joined the Avengers, got replaced...

Before the wave of smartphones, apps and video games, children obsessed over plastic toys sandwiched into moulds and cardboard boxes. Boys would ask Santa nicely for G.I. Sometimes siblings swapped toys and imagined a new world where Barbie ditched Ken for a whirlwind romance with Stretch Armstrong, later to be found wrapped in a sweet embrace, to then take off on her horse with Polly Pocket strapped down in her luggage – though, much to Polly’s chagrin.

"Lone Ranger" star Armie Hammer was spotted on the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" set recently, and Screen Rant had to ask him if there was any specific reason behind his visit. 10. Wonder Man When Joss Whedon was asked which other Avengers he would like to bring to the big screen last year, he replied: “A boatload. Pretty much everyone but Wonder Man. I never did figure out what he was for.” Oh. Probably best not to get our hopes up on this one then, but introducing Simon Williams wouldn’t be the worst thing Whedon could do. After all, he first joins them at the behest of the villainous Baron Zemo, but ultimately sides with the superhero team and becomes an integral part of the Avengers. In fact, it’s his brain patterns which Ultron – a murderous android inadvertently created by Hank Pym – uses to create the next superhero on this list... 9. Big news on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" front this weekend as HitFix reports John C. Reilly could potentially be up for a role in Marvel's first purely-cosmic film. The role in question? Rhomann Dey, leader of the Nova Corps and human liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yes, you read that correctly. Not only is it looking like S.H.I.E.L.D. might have its hand in "Guardians" but so is the entirety of the Nova Corps!
HitFix was also kind enough as to shed some light on Michael Rooker's Yondu and Lee Pace's mysterious role. Apparently, Yondu will be the main villain of "Guardians" (is Thanos taking a backseat?) and Pace will be playing a character that starts as a villain but becomes a hero by the end of the film, thus allowing for another spinoff franchise.

The roster of The Avengers is already pretty crowded (after all, they Do have a Hulk…), but it would be a massive shame if Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios didn’t take the opportunity to introduce some new members to the team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the sequel which is currently set for release on May 1st, 2015.

ABC has officially greenlit Joss Whedon’s Avengers spinoff-showcase TV show. It’s called Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it should just be called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and we’re all just going to call it S.H.I.E.L.D. anyway, and because periods are annoying henceforth let’s just do Shield. Now, let’s not front here. I don’t know anything about Shield. You don’t know anything about Shield. ABC released an official plot summary with official descriptions of all the main characters; but this being a Whedon-joint about mysterious spies with mysterious pasts, we should read anything official with a skeptical eye.

So, ComicMix readers, as per my previous column, Awesome Con DC happened April 20 and 21…and, I say this unironically, it was awesome. I had a blast. I spent time with good friends; I met new friends; I walked the con floor and met comics legends (great chat, Larry Hama!) and witty and charming award-winning artists (hello, Ben Templesmith!); and was delighted with the strong turnout of talented local comics folks. I went to a couple of panels (amazing, for me, since I usually plan to go to tons and then don’t go to…any); and wore my Girl Jayne Firefly costume. And yes, naturally, I bought some stuff (surprise!). I also pretended to be Nick Galifianakis for awhile (don’t tell!) and did three fantaaaastic interviews: with Nick, and with the amazingly talented Phil Lamarr and Billy West. Joss Whedon dropped a pretty big bombshell to Yahoo! Movies at the "Iron Man 3" premiere (check out this MTV slideshow of photos from the blockbuster red carpet event). I guess when you're as high up as Joss Whedon, you get to drop all the bombshells you want. Who will stop you?! This particular bombshell involves the addition of two superheroes to "Avengers 2," two superheroes that are, quite frankly, unexpected.
"I've got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic books," Joss reveals, "a brother/sister act. They're in the movie, that's exciting."
The most famous brother/sister act in the Marvel Universe is, without a doubt, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. Both are long-term Avengers, with the Scarlet Witch perhaps being the leading lady of the team. But here's why their apparent, guaranteed involvement is so surprising: they're mutants.

One of the coolest parts of "Marvel's the Avengers" had to be seeing the stars of disparate Marvel films finally sharing the screen together. I remember applause breaks pretty much every time a pairing happened or skirmish started. The intermingling makes these movies fun. Now Marvel is slowly building out their cinematic world, populating it with as many extraordinary people as the comic universe that spawned it.
Since the sequel won't be able to deliver on the some of the same thrills now that Thor and the Hulk have finally met, it would make sense for Joss Whedon and company to pull other supporting characters out of their corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and plop them into the middle of the Avengers. Don Cheadle's already said there are talks going on regarding increasing War Machine's profile, and I think that'd be a great idea. Here...

Previously, he made many guest appearances in the animated shows Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice (where he was voiced by Firefly star Alan Tudyk). But before becoming famous on the silver screen, Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow began as a Batman/Robin Hood quasi-rip off in DC Comics’ More Fun Comics 73 (1941) which also marked the debut of Aquaman (who is cool now).

There's some great things coming from Marvel and Marvel President Kevin Feige recently talked to SFX Magazine about their Cinematic Universe and where it's going. Phase 2 of the plan seems like it's going to be more in the cosmic realm of the universe. Even though he previously reassured that "cosmic" wouldn't really be a fair description of Phase Two, Feige was asked whether "magic" would be a good description of Phase 3 to which he replied,
I’m not looking at Phase One as grounded and Phase Two as cosmic and Phase 3 as magic. The films are all so eclectic and different from each other that you can’t overarchingly categorize them like that. If and when we enter the magic arena, it will be through Doctor Strange. Sure, obviously. And that’s to me what’s exciting about Doctor Strange.
I seriously can't wait for Doctor Strange to finally happen!
