cavemen wooing
SnoopyStyle8 May 2020
Larry, Moe, and Shemp are cavemen. They woo sisters Aggie, Maggie, and Baggy. That's when three other cavemen accuse the Stooges of stealing their women.

Comparing the Stooges with monkeys is obviously an insult to the monkeys. This is generally a very good Stooges short. I actually like the wooing although I do miss Curly. He would have been even funnier. The wooing is simple comedic genius and makes this one of the better Stooges short.

The silly stone age romeos!

I'M A MONKEY'S UNCLE is one of the Three Stooges' funniest shorts. I'm a fan of Shemp, and this is one of his greats. The funniest part is when Dee Green tackles Shemp so he'll fall in love with her.

This is a great stooge short. Watch for it on AMC or on Columbia Home Video.

A rusty short

I don't really like this short for one reason, Moe acts like Curly. Now I know Curly's wasn't a stooge anymore but to me its kinda weird seeing Moe act like Curly and getting scenes Curly would have. EX. Moe trying to kill the duck and getting angry then almost crying, and when putting butter in his hair and singing. I just think when Shemp came along that Moe got much dumber and having scenes that Curly would have.

"I wanna smell good." "Don't worry. You smell...GOOD."

Warning: Spoilers
Directed by Jules White, "I'm a Monkey's Uncle" is a very good Three Stooges comedy starring Shemp Howard, Larry Fine, and Moe Howard. In this film, the boys are cavemen who lead fairly uncomplicated lives except for the difficulty they experience now and then in finding something to eat. The difficulty mounts when the Stooges encounter three rivals for their girlfriends' affections.

Highlights from "I'm a Monkey's Uncle" include the following. With the help of a swinging tree branch, Moe, Larry, & Shemp wipe out their three rivals (two of them played by familiar Stooge supporting players Cy Schindell and Joe Palma) with an arsenal of lava rocks and other ammunition. (Moe, Larry, & Curly applied this same gag in an earlier short titled "Back to the Woods" [1937].) Larry helps Shemp churn butter by tickling him. And at the beginning of this short, while the Stooges are sleeping, Moe dreams of a beautiful romance and tears out clumps of Larry's hair, thinking that they're flower petals; Larry gets his revenge by popping him!

"I'm a Monkey's Uncle" was remade several years later as "Stone Age Romeos" (1955), and I personally feel that the remake is a little bit better. In the remake, the stock footage from "I'm a Monkey's Uncle" is actually a film that the Stooges (disguised in phony beards) show to a museum curator (Emil Sitka) in order to collect a profitable reward by proving that cavemen still exist!
