In September of 1945, The Hollywood Reporter stated Myrna Loy was to star in this picture as part of a new contract with RKO. Loy dropped out and the project was shelved. In March of 1949 it was announced that Ann Sothern was going to be borrowed from MGM for this picture. Then in May of 1949, MGM canceled the loan-out deal with RKO.
This was the second time Fred MacMurray and Natalie Wood played father and daughter, the other time was in Father Was a Fullback (1949).
