The love cats.
BA_Harrison29 October 2014
Tom falls for the charms of Toodles, a sexy female feline who just happens to be absolutely minted. The amorous cat tries to impress the girl with gifts—some flowers and Jerry on a leash—but finds that the course of true love never runs smooth, especially when alley-cat Butch becomes his love rival (after a little encouragement from Jerry).

Okay, so the set-up might not be all that original, Tom having fallen for the charms of a sexy female cat a couple of times before, but this cartoon is loaded with such charm that it still remains a lot of fun. (so long as you're not offended by Jerry dancing while in black-face). My favourite moment is an oldie but a goodie: Butch is catapulted out of a room so fast that, for a fraction of a second, he leaves his face behind.

Casanova Cat once again ends with the rather strange sight of Jerry indulging in a spot of inter-species love, the mouse beating out both cats for the attention of Toodles.

Tom tries to move "uptown", with predictable (and painful) results
llltdesq14 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This cartoon is an interesting variation on a love triangle. There will be spoilers ahead:

Tom is headed to woo Toodles, who is now an heiress and living in a fancy hotel. He brings Jerry as a gift for her. Jerry is subjected to various indignities, as usual, while getting his own shots in at Tom, as usual.

Jerry finally gets things going by making another cat, Butch, aware of Toodles and her many assets and we're off to the races. The violence and destruction escalates as Tom and Butch try to top each other and eliminate the competition.

In the end, Jerry tops them both and Toodles decides she's had enough of the testosterone fueled mayhem, departing by car. The end. This short has some controversial elements and is unfortunately (and incorrectly, in my opinion) not available on DVD or Blu-Ray. More's the pity. It deserves better treatment than that. Recommended.

Everyone has been wondering how this delightful film . . .
tadpole-596-91825628 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . can be one-half of the notorious "Forbidden Two" of the original Tom & Jerry series. After all, it won a seal of approval from the Vatican's hallowed American film censorship board. This official sanction is right there as clear as Russian skulduggery on the print of this picture that I viewed on the internet today. What could have possessed the current owner of this franchise to ban this outing from any and all 21st Century home entertainment discs? Perhaps it is the fact that both male cats--Tom and Butch--are seen here chomping on big fat cigars. Not only does this symbolism in the presence of the strangely anthropomorphic screen siren "T-o-o-d-l-e-s Galore" risk displeasing the contemporary "She Said" crowd, but it's also likely to rile up the current mobs of asthmatic activists. Furthermore, how does the current crop of dames regard depictions of rodents smooching stand-ins for human females? Those I've surveyed on this question all respond with variations of "Yuk!" and "I-c-k!"

Familiar set-up but with entertaining results
TheLittleSongbird23 December 2012
Tom and Jerry has always been a huge part of my childhood. Casanova Cat is still entertaining stuff indeed, if not really shaking off the feeling that the whole scenario doesn't come across as something as a surprise. Casanova Cat though does have some good gags, not the most original ones I've seen but they do raise a fair amount of laughs and are still in the spirit of Tom and Jerry as expected. The animation is really beautiful to watch, and the music is very catchy helped by lively orchestration and jazzy-like tempos. All four characters are on top form, with the gags and story playing to their strengths. Tom and Jerry are still a likable duo, Butch is a convincing love rival and Toodles is one of those characters where you can see absolutely what Tom and Butch see in each other.

In conclusion, the set-up is familiar but the results are indeed entertaining. 9/10 Bethany Cox
