This is the last Tom and Jerry cartoon to be nominated an Academy Award.
This was the first Tom and Jerry cartoon to be filmed in CinemaScope, and the second to be released in the format (the first, Pet Peeve (1954), was filmed later but released nearly a month earlier). Thicker lines were required because any tiny imperfection would be very noticeable on the larger screen.
The score for this cartoon was featured on the audio CD "Tom & Jerry & Tex Avery Too!".
Although Tuffy the baby mouse speaks, Jerry does not. Tuffy's line "C'est la guerre!" is often used by the Gallic Looney Tunes character, Pepe Le Pew.
The premise of this cartoon is the novel and films The Three Musketeers. The cartoon is filled with French accents, from settings, accessories and characters, down to the soundtrack.
