President Eisenhower requested a print of this show to screen at the Pentagon, and a scale model of the space station built for the show was also sent to Washington, where it resides at the National Air and Space Museum.
One of the few short subjects to be nominated for an Oscar after it premiered on television. When the Richard Williams version of "A Christmas Carol" won an Oscar after its TV premiere, the Academy rules were changed so that this would never happen again.
A shortened version of this episode was released theatrically in 1956 as a short subject, playing alongside Davy Crockett and the River Pirates (1956).
