Halloween is a time when regular folk allow themselves to see the world as us horror lovers do – weird and wonderful, sinister mischief with tongue in cheek under (and over) tones. They watch that scary movie they’ve been meaning to get to for the past year, string up skeletons, and parade around at office parties in the latest ironic costumes (expect tons of Trumps and Weiners this year). But for the fearful faithful, this is our workaday; we watch the films daily, display our rooms with terror trinkets, and dress up as our favourite icons at constant conventions around the globe. So what separates the actual day of Halloween from our normal routine? TV viewing, of course.
‘Tis the season when every station trots out horror programming, sometimes for weeks on end leading up to and including the big night. A lot of this is for Johnny and Jane...

Growing up, I think most of us would agree that Halloween specials were essential viewing throughout the month of October, but as time has gone on, a lot of those specials have faded with the passing years, only coming out unofficially online, on VHS (which in some cases were very limited releases), or as early DVD releases that can now run you upwards of $100 just to snag a copy.
I put together this list of five obscure Halloween specials for horror fans to dig up and enjoy. Of course, there are thousands of amazing retro finds to watch, so this list should at the very least help you get started and put you in a macabre mood as you prepare for October 31st!

For those unfamiliar, Sleepy Hollow is a Fox TV series; it’s an adaptation of the Washington Irving short story, ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, which has been adapted many times before, most notably the 1999 Tim Burton film Sleepy Hollow. Titan Books has released Sleepy Hollow: Creating Heroes, Demons & Monsters by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, looking at the series and I am reviewing the book.
If you’ve picked up a TV show inside book before then you know what to expect. We get the information on all the main characters and locations, and here the monsters from the first two seasons. It’s flows really well, taking us through the whole development. We can read about the initial ideas from co-creators Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman, of a show involving witches and how this series differentiates from previous adaptations.

Every year as Halloween gets closer, basic cable and the DVD racks at big box stores are flooded with Halloween programming for kids—Disneyfied TV movies and animated specials featuring all their favorite characters in costume. But are these cash-ins any good? If you’re trying to foster a love of horror in your little ones—or just looking for something age-appropriate to show them during October—navigating the seas of “kid-friendly” content can be irritating at best, downright impossible at worst.

From The Strain to Penny Dreadful, Hannibal and more, we celebrate some of the books behind TV’s golden age of horror…
There has rarely been a better time to be a fan of the horror genre on television with a bumper crop of horror shows currently hitting our screens. Some shows like Supernatural or American Horror Story weave something original out of various different sources such as old folk tales, mythology and horror films. Then there are the others which are rooted in literary fiction, taking their monsters from the page and bringing them vividly to life on screen.
Whether it's a story of serial killers, monsters or things that go bump in the night, we're taking a look at the books that inspired several of today's horror shows...

Marketing gone tragically wrong.
In a case of timing gone tragically wrong, marketers of the Fox series Sleepy Hollow have apologized after launching a "National Headless Day" promo the same day as terrorists released a video showing the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff.
The promo was originally created to promote the headless horseman character from the show's season-one DVD, which is based on Washington Irving's classic short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

A slew of classic Disney movies are hitting for the first time on Blu-Ray, including one double-pack release, and you’re going to want to make sure to pick these up. You haven’t paid attention to some of these titles for a while, and it’s about time you got the chance to catch them on Blu-Ray. The best part is that there’s a great mix of releases hitting. Bedknobs and Broomsticks is all but lost in the cultural consciousness, and it deserves a return. The Academy Award-winning movie from the year I was born is filled with a lot of fun and adventure, and like most Disney films, holds up well for a whole new generation.
The rest of the group covers a great spectrum, including two animated “big” titles, and a 10th Anniversary release. There’s a lot to expose your family to here, so check out all the info below,...

Disney was built on their animated cartoons and films. They've entertained audiences for years, and have inspired us and sparked our imaginations. Like many of you, I've enjoyed watching these movies and shows since I was a little kid, but holy crap! There are some extremely dark and terrifying moments that could really screw a kid up! Disney did some jacked up stuff. I've come up with a list of ten scenes from these kids movies that are the things of nightmares. I should let you know that I wanted to keep this list strictly Disney, so I did not include any Pixar films. I also didn't include such traumatic scenes such as Bambi's mom and Simba's dad dying. Look over the list and let us know of any other scenes that Disney screwed you up with.

Word of a new project that combines the works of Edgar Allan Poe with the talented team at Macabre Mansion has arrived. Check out the first details on the original all-star audio drama Poe Poe Pitiful Me.
From the Press Release:
Producers Daniel Roebuck and Kevin Herren are teaming up to produce Poe Poe Pitiful Me. Hosted by Dr. Shocker (Roebuck), our story follows struggling writer Edgar Allan Poe as he pitches three of his original stories to a publisher.
The three Poe stories - The Oblong Box, The Cask Of Amontillado, and Premature Burial - stay true to Poe's original writings with only minor changes in dialogue.
"This audio drama will be a little different than the rest of the 'Macabre Mansion Presents' series," Herren said. "It's going to be a comedic fictional day in the life of Poe with three of Poe's short stories being played out inside the fictional piece.

"Ichabod is the hardest part I've played," Tom Mison, star of the freshman fantasy-drama "Sleepy Hollow," airing Mondays on Fox, tells Zap2it. "There's so much that we need to balance with him. To slightly veer in any one direction a little too much, and it will collapse."
"Sleepy Hollow" can be described as a combination of author Washington Irving (in particular, his stories "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle"), the film "National Treasure" and the biblical book of Revelation.
Mison's Ichabod Crane was a spy for Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War, when he beheaded the Hessian Horseman and apparently perished. But, he survived and slumbered underground for over two centuries, only to emerge in present-day Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.

This past October, the weekend before Halloween, my wife and I made our very first visit to the town of Sleepy Hollow, which was of course immortalized in history as one of the most iconic towns in America when Washington Irving wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow way back in 1820. I'll spare you the boring details of our romantic getaway, but I will say that we came away from the trip with a new annual Halloween tradition, and a new favorite town. Sleepy Hollow is an absolutely beautiful place to visit, especially around Halloween time, and I hope that everyone reading this gets to someday make it out there and spend some time in the land where the Headless Horseman roams free.
If you're not yet sold on such an adventure, look no further than the school mascot of Sleepy Hollow High for proof that it's one of the coolest towns in America.

A headless horseman gallops out of a nightmare and into the modern day in Sleepy Hollow, a new series that returned to broadcast television last week with an even more apocalyptic vision. In Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," first published in 1820, the secluded, upstate New York setting is known for its haunted atmosphere (according to Wikipedia), and the tale ends with "superstitious schoolmaster" Ichabod Crane ("a Yankee and an outsider"), who pines for the young Katrina Van Tassel, disappearing after a terrifying encounter with a headless horseman. Sleepy Hollow refashions Crane into a British soldier during the Revolutionary War who defects to the side of the American patriots. During a fierce battle, he cuts the head off a mounted soldier...

Sneak Peek new images from the Fox TV series "Sleepy Hollow", recently renewed for a second season, and the episode titled "The Sin Eater", airing November 4, 2013.
The series is considered a 'modern-day retelling' of the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by author Washington Irving:
"...in 1781, 'Ichabod Crane' dies in the midst of the 'Revolutionary War' while on a mission for 'General George Washington'. He rises from his grave in modern day 'Sleepy Hollow' after the 'Headless Horseman' is summoned back from his watery grave by an unknown party.
"The resurrection of the one causes the resurrection of the other due to the intertwining of their fates as a result of their blood mixing shortly after Crane decapitated the Headless Horseman on the field of battle.
In modern day, 'Lt. Abbie Mills' begins investigating the Headless Horseman after he kills 'Sheriff August Corbin', Mills' mentor and partner.

When a book becomes a hit, topping bestseller lists and leaving store shelves vacant, one question always quickly follows: “When will it be turned into a movie?”
Audiences have seen this time and time again, with major examples being Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Lord of the Rings series, among many others.
Adapting literature to film can be a win-win situation, as it provides an original story with a built-in audience that will likely buy tickets come opening day. At the same time, not every book translates to box-office success, with some vehicles being better suited to a smaller medium — like TV.
Creating TV adaptations of beloved literature is not a new phenomenon, but it’s one TV executives should increasingly consider in the face of a disappointing fall season.

It takes a lot of makeup to look that ugly! Fox's new hit drama Sleepy Hollow, which brings Washington Irving's classic story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to life and a 16th century Ichabod Crane to 2013, is all about the supernatural fun, and last night's outing, "Blood Moon," told "the story of this witch, she was burned 250 years ago," breakout star Tom Mison says. And being burned at the stake means charred skin, which means a whole lot of visual effects. We're taking you exclusively behind the scenes of last night's witchy hour of Sleepy Hollow, which featured some pretty stellar visual effects. In the clip, director and executive producer Ken Olin reveals...

Murder, time travel, unsolved police investigations, witches and the four horsemen of the apocalypse ... oh my! Fox's Sleepy Hollow presented several intersecting plot lines with its premiere episode on Monday, the chief storyline being the return of Ichabod Crane, a character most Americans know from the Washington Irving short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In the new version, Crane (Tom Mison) is a British soldier who traveled to the American Colonies to defend the Crown in the Revolutionary War, but ended up switching sides and fighting for independence instead. Crane is fatally wounded during battle, but manages to decapitate...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 1: “Pilot″
Written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Phillip Iscove
Directed by Len Wiseman
Airs Mondays at 9:00 Pm Et on Fox
Sleepy Hollow‘s pilot is an exercise in dualities. The premise of the show is a mix between Washington Irving’s two famous short stories “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle”. It features Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and the Headless Horseman as protagonist and antagonist, but in this version of Crane has been sleeping for centuries like Rip Van Winkle and also wakes up to a very different world than the one he formerly inhabited. There also shifts and dualities in genre. There are shifts from action to police procedural to horror and even fish out of water comedy. The transitions between genres can be a bit jarring, and the writers have the characters solve the mystery quickly through an...

Fox’s Sleepy Hollow premiered Monday (9/8c) — did the new series awaken your interest?
Loosely based on Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” the new drama follows Ichabod Crane, a British soldier fighting for George Washington’s colonial forces in the Revolutionary War.
The action opens with Crane (played by Tom Mison, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) engaged in close combat with a large, sinister-looking, masked man with a unique brand on the back of his hand. Crane beheads the behemoth but is mortally wounded himself in the process. He loses consciousness in an army hospital…...

Let the good times roll or off with their heads?! That is the question we're asking you about the series premiere of Sleepy Hollow, which is Fox's modern-day twist on Washington Irving's classic The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Sure, Ichabod Crane (breakout star Tom Mison) and the Headless Horseman are still around, but that's really where the similarities end between the story and Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Len Wiseman's new drama, which finally premiered tonight. One part police procedural and one part supernatural thriller with some buddy-cop comedy sprinkled on top, Sleepy Hollow adds up to one crazy concept that could come off cheesy, but luckily lands on the insanely fun side of the TV...

“Sleepy Hollow,” Fox’s revamp of the classic Washington Irving tale “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” premieres Monday at 9 p.m., and this definitely isn’t your grandpa’s version of the story. In order to help you not lose your head over all of the changes, TheWrap presents five things to be prepared for, as told by executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci during a conference call with reporters last week. 1. Ichabod Crane Will Be British. And More Robust While Irving’s version of Ichabod Crane was a timid schoolteacher, “Sleepy Hollow” has cast British actor Tom Mison (“Parade’s End”) in the.

Sleepy Hollow star Tom Mison says it’s honestly “terrifying when a 6-foot-3 man runs at you with an ax.” It’s something his character, Ichabod Crane, experiences on a regular basis in the new Fox drama series Sleepy Hollow, premiering Monday, Sept. 16 at 9pm Et/Pt. A fresh face to American TV, the 31-year-old Mison makes for one dreamy-looking Ichabod Crane in Fox’s reiteration — a far cry from the timid schoolteacher we remember from Washington Irving’s classic fable The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. While Irving’s Ichabod was scared of his own shadow, Mison’s Ichabod is refreshingly bold and ballsy — [...]

Another season, another conspiracy to end the world. That’s not the fatigue of so much Apocalypse Pop talking: In the grim noir world of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow — which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox — U.S. history is reimagined as the product of a never-ending, always stalemating supernatural shadow war, pitting truth-keeping, true believing patriots against black magic terrors bent on annihilating us from creation. At least, that’s what the “good guys” say. The bad guys have yet to speak…maybe because they’re lacking for heads. Say hello to what could be the season’s...

Heads will roll — and more than a few eyes — in Fox's lavishly entertaining but hopelessly convoluted new supernatural thriller Sleepy Hollow (Monday, 9/8c), which officially kicks off a new season of network premieres. Given how ordinary so many of the networks' new shows are this fall, it seems a bit churlish not to wholeheartedly embrace a series that is anything but ordinary. And yet by the end of an opening hour that gets off to a spectacularly fun start, I wanted nothing more than for it to just shut up with all of the apocalyptic mumbo jumbo.
On the plus side, a star is unquestionably born in Tom Mison, a winning British actor who makes for a dashing and amusing action hero in this bold re-imagining of Washington Irving's iconic Ichabod Crane (from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which we've heretofore seen Disney-fied and Tim Burton-ized). Ichabod Crane may not know it, but he owes a debt of gratitude to one Ms. Carrie Mathison.
That’s because Showtime’s Homeland so inspired the creators of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (which debuts Monday at 9/8c), they decided to go headless or go home.
“The thing that I loved about Homeland so much… is that every episode could’ve been the finale. Every single episode,” said Alex Kurtzman, who — with fellow Fringe alum Roberto Orci — is behind the new supernatural series.

This Monday, Sept. 16th, Fox kicks off the 2013 Fall Network TV season with the return of fan-favorite procedural Bones and debut of the network’s first new drama offering, Sleepy Hollow. Tuesday, Sept. 17th will bring their two new comedies, Dads and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as well as the return of New Girl and The Mindy Project, with the final new series of the fall, Almost Human, starting its season in November. The Mindy premiere is now available for interested viewers to preview, either online or OnDemand, but curious viewers will have to tune in to get a glimpse at Sleepy Hollow, Dads, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (as well as the various returning series). Excited TV fans already had a chance to see and react to Almost Human this past July when the pilot was screened at San Diego Comic Con (check out my initial thoughts), but here is a look at...

“You can’t stop being afraid just by pretending everything that scares you isn’t there.”-Michael Marshall
Imagine your worst fear; it could be being buried alive, the number thirteen, creepy crawlies, spiders, airplanes, clowns with squids atop their heads brandishing giant bazookas that shoot molten popcorn (which is a perfectly reasonable fear if you ask me, you never know what those clowns are up to). Now take that fear and imagine it becoming a reality. To really be on the edge of a tall skyscraper, to really feel your oxygen slowly give way as the dirt is shoveled over your face, to feel a million little spiders crawling all over your body. That is what the victims of one Dr. Jonathan Crane experience before they go completely and utterly mad.

Fox's fish-out-of-water take on The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow has a brand new trailer...
Piggy-backing on Bones' audience this September will be Fox's new take on the Washington Irving headless horseman tale, Sleepy Hollow. Star Trek and Fringe's Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penned the pilot, with Total Recall remake director Len Wiseman helming the first episode.
Parade's End's Tom Mison stars as Ichabod Crane, awoken centuries after his 'death' to hunt the murderous horseman with Sheriff Abbie Mills (Nicole Berharie) and forced to adjust to life in the mid twenty-first century.
This trailer has a smack of Tim Burton's Dark Shadows about it, but don't let that put you off...
Sleepy Hollow starts on Monday the 16th of September on Fox in the Us.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Directed by Gayle Stahlhuth
East Lynne Theater Company
Cape May, New Jersey
Through August 31, 2013
Washington Irving's venerable ghost story, first published in 1820, contains virtually no dialog, but abundant pondered ambiguities -- so it is up to the writer and director who is adapting the story in a performance medium to "dramatize" it. Many a writer has tried, in film, animation, stage, and musical versions. Playwright James Rana has taken up the challenge and provided the freshest of takes on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in a delightful production mounted by East Lynne Theater Company in picturesque Cape May, New Jersey. Deftly directed by Gayle Stahlhuth, the company's artistic director, and with a talented cast of seasoned professionals, the hour and twenty minute presentation breezes by on the wings of disarming charm and dramatic authenticity.
The story (for those pupils who avoided "required reading") is simple.

Fox's Sleepy Hollow is merging two worlds into one, with a fun supernatural bent. That, at least, is what producers want to hammer home. Sleepy Hollow, a modern-day retelling of the 19th century short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) as he is transported to the present day and partners with local detective Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) to solve the embattled town's mysteries. "We really wanted it to be fun," director/co-creator Len Wiseman told reporters Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour, emphasizing the importance of finding "the right

The fact that Ichabod Crane is just another name — and not a famous, fictional character — is a boon, not a burden, for Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (premiering Monday, Sept. 16 at 9/8c).

This fall on Fox, heads will roll! In this exclusive first look at the key art for Fox's new drama series Sleepy Hollow, it's all about the headless horseman. The tagline? "Don't lose your head." Well, considering the fact that the horseman is wielding a fairly large ax, we're betting someone will be losing their head (and more), when the show debuts on Sept. 16. Sleepy Hollow, starring Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie, Orlando Jones and John Cho, is a modern retelling of the classic 1820s short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Produced by Fringe's Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, this take on Washington Irving's tale finds Icabod Crane (Mison) time-traveling two and a half...

Los Angeles — A futuristic drama from producer-writer J.J. Abrams of "Lost" and the "Star Trek" movie franchise and a comedy with Andy Samberg of "Saturday Night Live" fame as a carefree police detective will be on Fox's new schedule, the network said.
Four new dramas and five comedies were announced Wednesday for the 2013-14 season by Fox, which got a jump on network presentations to advertisers set for next week in New York.
The Abrams-produced drama, with the working title "Almost Human," was described by Fox as an "action-packed" police series set 35 years in the future, when officers are teamed with human-like androids. The cast will include Karl Urban, Michael Ealy and Lili Taylor.
Greg Kinnear will take on his first continuing broadcast series role in "Rake," a legal drama based on a hit Australian series of the same name, Fox said. The actor, whose movie credits include "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Baby Mama,...
