As good as anything else at the time.

Not much of an idea. Seems like it works okay when we are listening to Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart. Not so great when they are trying to prove how bad rock and roll was. The dialogue though was good enough for Woody Allen to lift the joke about one of the characters rotting when he gets too mellow and reuse it in Annie Hall.

Never got up any steam

William Demarest and Stubby Kaye were great performers, but there didn't seem to be any momentum behind the series. The conflict between the old and new music? No, there seemed to be no one willing or able to put any real tension, or real balance, into that angle.
