- TriviaUpon its release, the film received mostly negative reviews. By the 1980s, it became something of a cult film to horror and B-movie film fans. In 1983, an authorized, re-edited comedic spoof version entitled What's Up, Hideous Sun Demon (1989) (also known as Revenge of the Sun Demon) was released. The film's star and producer Robert Clarke agreed to re-dub his dialogue for the spoof, but reportedly later regretted being involved in the production. In 1985, Hideous Sun Demon: Special Edition was released.
- GoofsDuring a scuffle between George and Gil at Trudy's house, George pulls out a Colt Model 1903 handgun and forces Gil outside. But when the scene resumes outside, the gun is now a Luger.

"WEIRD KILLER STILL AT LARGE!"...
Dr. Gilbert McKenna (Robert Clarke) is accidentally exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. In spite of this, McKenna shows no ill effects. Then, he sits in the sun and is transformed into THE HIDEOUS SUN DEMON! Now, McKenna must avoid direct sunlight or be turned into this raging reptile! So, he hits the road, intent on leading a nocturnal existence.
Unfortunately, there's a flaw in his plan, in the form of a beautiful, blond nightclub singer. This, in addition to alcohol and a night on the beach, is enough to cause big problems.
Then, there's the fact that McKenna already has a girlfriend and an entire daytime life. What's worse, he discovers that it takes less solar exposure each time, in order to change him into a slavering gator-man! This soon leads to violence and death.
Though the monster makeup and McKenna's rampages are pure cheeeze, at least it's the tasty sort. The finale is an acrophobic nightmare!
A highly entertaining beast feast...
