- [last lines]
- Police Constable: Inspector, there were two bodies found, one was Mr Linton, the other identified as Mrs Stockley from the village.
- Police Inspector: Mrs Linton, do you know Mrs Stockley ?
- [Jean nods]
- Police Inspector: However did the fire start, it must have been lightening.
- Jean Linton: [nods in agreement, knowingly] Lightening, yes, lightening.
- Jean Linton: [confronting her husband's mistress] Mrs Stockley, I've come for my property, my stolen property.
- Valerie Stockley: [casually] If you are referring to your husband he isn't here.
- Jean Linton: No I'm not referring to him, but the twenty pounds he stole from me to give to you. I've read your letter asking him for the money.
- Jean Linton: [pauses, as Valerie looks stunned] My husband doesn't have a penny to his name . All he eats, drinks and spends comes from me.
- Jean Linton: If you had wanted the money so badly, you should have gone out to earn it.
- [pauses, looks Valerie up and down]
- Jean Linton: You look the type.
- Jean Linton: You can keep my husband, and the twenty pounds. I'm finished with keeping him, you can support him from now on.
- [leaves through the front door, Valerie looks stunned]
