As Diver Dan approaches the ship of Skipper Kipper, he sees and hears Skipper singing (Blow the Man Down). Skipper Kipper is also observed by Baron Barracuda and by Trigger Fish. The Baron asserts to Trigger that a sufficient reason for wanting the gold is that they will thus keep others from having it. At the place of Miss Minerva, she, Doc Sturgeon, Finley Haddock, Georgie Porgy, and Sam the Sawfish watch Goldie the Goldfish as she swims in and around her bowl. Doc proudly credits his prescription of gold dust with her cure. Finley suggests that a reserve of such medicine might come in use; and, at the urging of Miss Minerva, he and Georgie leave to get more coins from Skipper. As Dan moves slowly towards the ship, he is passed by Finley and by Georgie; Dan tries to hail them but is unsuccessful. The Baron and Trigger continue to spy upon Skipper, who spots Finley and Georgie as they approach. Finley reports the success of the treatment, and declares the coins to be worth their weight in worms. (As Finley and Georgie report Goldie's recovery to Skipper, the visual cuts briefly to Miss Minerva and a frolicking Goldie.) Skipper is surprised but pleased that the coins aren't simply clutter. Finley tells him that Goldie would be a poor fish without them. The Baron overhears this remark, and tells Trigger that neither of them wants to be a poor fish, and so they must have the gold. Finley explains that Doc has said that they should keep a few coins at hand; Skipper goes to get a couple more for them. The Baron tells Trigger that they must watch for a chance, and then sneak up on the other party to get all the gold. He tells Trigger that he is to sneak into the ship after Finley and Georgie have left; the Baron notes that the Skipper is old and weak. Skipper brings two coins to Finley and Georgie. The Baron and Trigger slink. Finley and Georgie, each with a coin, leave. Skipper asserts to himself that it appears that the weather is to worsen. The Barons tells Trigger to act on his signal.\ The narrator asks whether Skipper will close the port hole in time to prevent Trigger from entering.

The narrator reports that Skipper Kipper has closed the port-hole in time. Baron Barracuda expresses frustration, but tells Trigger Fish that they will wait for another chance to get into the ship. Georgie Porgy and Finley Haddock proceed, each with a coin, towards the home of Miss Minerva. On their way, the encounter Diver Dan, who again hails them, and tries to talk to them. When Finley, because of the coin, makes only incoherent sounds, Dan concludes that the pressures of the deep have somewhat deranged him. Finley drops his coin and then talks to Dan. Finley expresses some distress at having dropped the coin; Dan retrieves to return to him. Finley expresses surprise that a monster should be so nice. Georgie begins speaking as if he has no coin (and none is visible now in his mouth). Finley marvels that Dan can talk. Finley asks that they be excused to take their gold to the Mermaid; Dan thus learns that there is a Mermaid. He also hears that her name is Minerva. Finley declares that they have to hurry now, and he and Georgie begin to leave, with Dan still holding the coin that Finley dropped. Dan asks them to wait, and asks them if the coin coins mean something to them; Finley and Georgie say that the coins are very valuable. Dan therefore declares that he will not take them, but the fish declare that the coins are in no way scarce, that they need only two or three, and that Skipper will surely let Dan have as many as he wants. They insist that they must leave, that the life of Goldie the Goldfish hangs in the balance. They direct him to Skipper's ship and head away. (As they leave, both Georgie and Finley are speaking freely.) The Baron has apparently discerned enough of the conversation to infer that Dan wants the gold. The Baron explains to Trigger that this implies some further value to the gold. The Baron declares to Trigger that Skipper will soon leave to exercise, at which point the Baron and Trigger will slink into the ship and take as much gold as they can. Skipper decides that the imagined squall will soon blow over, and heads out to exercise. He almost immediately encounters Dan, takes him for a monster, and asks him if he is friend or foe. Dan assures Skipper that Dan is not a monster, and may be regarded as a friend. Skipper accepts Dan's assurances, asks how Skipper might help Dan, and marvels that Dan can talk. Dan explains that he is part of a scientific expedition, studying the ocean floor, that has nearly run out of money, with its task only half completed. He proposes that the gold on Skipper's ship could be used to fund the rest of the work. Skipper is glad that the yellow metal, which he regards as clutter, could be removed and put to good use. Dan asks to first take two or three coins to his ship's scientists, for study. Dan opens the door to the cabin from which Skipper had emerged, and begins to enter it.
1961
Diver Dan and Skipper Kipper enter the cabin in which are some of the gold coins. Dan picks up and inspects one of the coins. Outside, Baron Barracuda, with Trigger Fish at his side, closes the door to the cabin; in doing so, he clamps shut Dan's air hose. The Baron locks the door, and steals the key. Laughing wickedly, he leaves. Dan discovers and announces his plight, and asks who could have shut the door on his hose. Skipper declares that it seems like the work of the Baron. Exiting by way of a port-hole, Skipper sees and reports that the door has been locked and that the key is missing. Skipper cries that he will get and return with help as soon as possible. As Dan struggles helplessly, Skipper swims to Minerva's place, finds her there, and reports the problem. Minerva expresses displeasure, and wants to ponder why the Baron would seek to hurt the diver. Skipper pleads that there is no time for musing. Sam the Sawfish comes along. Minerva directs Sam to travel quickly with Skipper and help Dan. The two swim rapidly back to the ship. As Sam begins sawing at the door to unclamp the hose, Skipper tells him to do just that, so that the diver can breathe; Skipper notes that the problem of the lock can be addressed less urgently. Skipper swims to the port-hole, to assure Dan that in another minute Sam will have unclamped the hose. As the hose is unclamped, Dan gratefully thanks Skipper; Skipper insists that thanks should instead be given to Sam; then Skipper hails Sam and directs him to saw around the lock. Sam begins sawing through it. As Dan exits the cabin, he asks how he can ever repay the saving of his life. Skipper waves off the thanks. (Sam seems no longer present.) As Dan begins to leave, Skipper tells him not to forget his gold coins. Skipper collects two or three coins and delivers them to Dan. Dan thanks him for these, and Skipper says that Dan may have all that he wants. Skipper explains that he'd like to build an indoor swimming pool in the area now occupied by the coins; Dan is taken aback. Dan says that he must now return to his ship, but will let Skipper know the results of the gold analysis. Dan walks from the ship, then his ship signals for ascent, which begins.

Baron Barracuda and Trigger Fish lurk near the ship of Skipper Kipper, waiting for him to leave so that they may steal its gold. Trigger expresses fearfulness; the Baron says that he does not want a trigger fish who is scared. Skipper, floating in a port-hole and singing, guards the gold. Unseen by the Baron and Trigger, Seabiscuit the Seahorse overhears their conversation, then swims away. At her place, Miss Minerva is singing. Doc Sturgeon and Finley Haddock are present. Minerva (apparently in agreement with remarks by Finley) says that it is a lovely day, but that they must be alert to possible evil-doing by the Baron. As Skipper swims from the port-hole, the Baron tells Trigger to prepare to act on his signal. Seabiscuit continues swimming. At Minerva's place, Finley spots Seabiscuit's approach, reports it to Miss Minerva, and declares that something is amiss. Arriving, Seabiscuit whinnies for a bit as Minerva listens. Then Minerva declares that the Baron is attacking Skipper, who must be warned; Minerva says that she will give this warning by magic shell-o-phone. She takes up the shell with which Sam the Sawfish had been summoned in Talking Fish (Episode 3), and hails Skipper. When he responds, she warns him that the Baron is after the gold, and tells him to quickly close the port-hole. He immediately swims back into the cabin and closes the port-hole. The Baron makes a dash but slams into the glass. He complains that Minerva has warned Skipper again and that the magic shell-o-phone has repeatedly thwarted them. Inside the cabin, Skipper declares to himself that the warning had come just in time. Trigger suggests to the Baron that they steal the magic shell-o-phone. He and the Baron swim away from the ship. At Minerva's place, she notes to Finley and to Doc that the Baron has been thwarted but remains wicked. She says that they'd better make sure that Skipper is safe. Nearby, the Baron tells Trigger to watch for an opportunity. Speaking with Minerva, Finley suggests that the cabin door is a point of vulnerability, and should be nailed closed. The Baron and Trigger close-in on the shell-o-phone. Trigger suggests that the Baron be the one to take it. As the Baron and Trigger slink away, Finley suggests that his party should call the Hammerhead Shark. As Minerva starts to do so, she sees that the phone is gone. Gabby the Clam observes the Baron and Trigger slinking away with the shell-o-phone. Minerva and her party (which now includes Georgie Porgy) express bafflement and distress. Observed by Seabiscuit, Diver Dan descends to the ocean floor. Seabiscuit goes to Minerva's place, and whinnies that Dan is descending near the sea ferns. Minerva suggests that Dan might be able to help. Finley declares that he will go ask, and swims away. Minerva seems greatly cheered. Finley tells Dan that the shell-o-phone has been taken. Dan says that he will try to help, but they they must learn what has become of it. Dan insists that someone must have witnessed what happened to it. After some thought, Finley suggests that Gabby may have seen what happened. Finley declares that he will go ask Gabby, and swims away. Reaching Gabby, Finley identifies himself and pleads for Gabby to say what happened. Gabby closes without speaking. Finley turns to Minerva and notes that she can make Gabby talk. Minerva nags Gabby, who says Bar-ron! Finley swims to Dan, and reports that Gabby has implicated the Baron but provided no more information. Finley declares that the Baron must have the shell-o-phone in his hide-out. Finley says that, with Dan along, his party is not afraid of the Baron: You've got your knife! Dan unsheaths the knife, and urges Finley to hurry, as they must catch the Baron. Doc and Georgie have appeared, to accompany them. The Baron deposits the shell-o-phone in his hide-out (next to the skeleton of a fish chained to a wall), and laughs wickedly that the shell-o-phone can no longer be used by Minerva to issue warnings. He says that the other fish will not dare to enter his hide-out, and If they do, they are in for a big surprise!

With a small fish, Baron Barracuda lures an octopus into his lair, where he and Trigger Fish float near the shackled skeleton seen in the previous episode. (The magic shell-o-phone is not where he was seen placing it, nor otherwise visible.) The Baron presses a secret button which causes a trap door to slowly descend, caging the octopus. Diver Dan, Georgie Porgy, Doc Sturgeon, and Finley Haddock reach the Baron's lair. One fish announces as much. Doc tells the party to be careful, and says that Dan will lead the way. The Baron curses the fact that the Diver accompanies the fish. (The shell-o-phone is now where he had left it in the previous episode.) Dan urges his party to proceed. The Baron laughs cruelly at the thought that the party would dare to come into his lair. Dan announces to the Baron that he might as well surrender, that Dan's party knows that he has it, and that they are entering the lair. As Dan proceeds, the Baron laughs to Trigger that the recovery party is in for a big surprise. The octopus frowns out from his cell. Dan warns his party that the Baron is wickedly crafty, and tells them to watch their steps. Finley declares that when Dan is with them the Baron has no chance. Dan says that nonetheless the Baron cannot be trusted. Unseen by the party, the octopus reaches from his cell. The Baron laughs to Trigger that this guard will stop the party. Finley cries a warning. Dan tells Finley and Georgie that there is the dangerous presence of an octopus, which Finley notes is guarding the cave. The octopus grasps Dan by the legs. Dan announces that the octopus is too strong for Dan to free himself and that the party needs help. Finley directs Seabiscuit the Seahorse (not previously seen in the party) to quickly inform Miss Minerva. Seabiscuit swims away. Finley expresses despair that the Baron will triumph. The Baron declares that the octopus has thwarted his enemies and that the diver will never bother the Baron and Trigger again. Seabiscuit reaches Minerva's place and whinnies to her. Minerva summons Sam the Sawfish to deal with the octopus, and directs him to hurry as she waves him in the direction whence Seabiscuit came. Dan wrestles with the octopus as Trigger, the Baron, Doc, Finley, and Georgie watch. Sam swims. The Baron gloats that the recovery party is thwarted and that his party can keep the shell-o-phone. Sam arrives, and begins stabbing and sawing at the tentacles of the octopus. The Baron vents frustration. Dan thanks Sam and says that he can feel the octopus loosing his grip. The octopus withdraws his tentacles. Dan tells Sam to stand watch over the octopus as the shell-o-phone is recovered. Trigger suggests flight, but the Baron asserts to him that the octopus can now use his secret super weapon. Dan urges an attack. The Baron calls for the octopus to use the super weapon. The octopus begins to put out ink. Finley cries out in alarm. Dan announces that it is becoming impossible to see, and despairs. The Baron laughs evilly That did it.

The lair of Baron Barracuda is darkened with ink from the octopus. Finley Haddock frets as to how the shell-o-phone might be recovered, with the recovery party unable to see into the cave. Diver Dan sheaths his knife. Doc Sturgeon says that the prognosis is unpromising. Trigger Fish asks the Baron if he is still present. The Baron tells him to be quiet, and asserts that my secret weapon has been successful. Trigger, in the dark, grabs a fish by the tail. The Baron yells in pain and tells Trigger that the tail is that of the Baron. Finley suggest that Seabiscuit the Seahorse be sent to Miss Minerva for help, that Miss Minerva will surely know how to combat the Baron's secret weapon. Dan endorses the idea, and calls to Seabiscuit, who whinnies. Dan asks Seabiscuit if he can go to Minerva for help. Seabiscuit whinnies and swims away. At the place of Miss Minerva, she is watching Goldie the Goldfish swim in her bowl, with Scout Fish present. Scout announces the approach of Seabiscuit. Minerva notes that Seabiscuit is alone and looks very worried. The camera pans briefly to Gabby the Clam, who says Trou-ble.. As Seabiscuit arrives, Minerva asks him what the matter is. Seabiscuit whinnies and Minerva translates. She notes that it is no surprise that the baron would do something dark. Scout remarks on the wickedness of the Baron. Gabby says Glow fish. Minerva asserts that, indeed, Glow Fish is their one hope; that, with his miraculous head-lamp he can lead the recovery party from the ink. She directs Seabiscuit to the Bottomless Pit, to summon Glow Fish and lead him to the rescue. Seabiscuit swims away. Seabiscuit comes to three signs on a post. The top-most says MinERVa'S PALacE and points to the right. The next one down points forward and says TEETERING ROCK in teetering letters. The bottom-most sign says BOTTOMLESS PIT and points forward and to the left. Seabiscuit scans the signs and then swims in the direction for the Bottomless Pit. As he continues, he passes another sign, which points forward and downward and says BOTTOMLESS PIT. Seabiscuit swims downward, whinnying. As he descends, Glow Fish (a fish with a stalked head-lamp) rises to greet him. (Glow Fish sounds rather like Digger O'Dell from The Life of Riley radio show.) After Seabiscuit whinnies further, Glow Fish says that he will come almost immediately, after finishing charging his batteries. He descends, and sounds like those of high-voltage induction coils are heard. Glow Fish is briefly seen at some sort of glowing electrical panel. Then, with Seabiscuit in the lead, they leave the pit. Finley moans that it seems that time is with the Baron. Dan says that the ink may take many hours to dissipate. Seabiscuit and Glow Fish approach, with Seabiscuit whinnying. Finley infers and reports their approach. Doc cheers that Seabiscuit has Glow Fish with him. Georgie Porgy pleads with Glow Fish to lead them out of the ink. Dan suggest that first Glow Fish should rescue the shell-o-phone. Finley agrees and explains to Glow Fish that the Baron and Trigger have stolen the shell-o-phone, and asks Glow Fish to snatch it away if he can. Glow Fish agrees to try; Dan says that this is more than the rest of the recovery party can do. The Baron senses that the recovery party is doing something unanticipated and expresses frustration. Glow Fish slips his snout into the shell-o-phone and begins to carry it away. The Baron demands to know what the strange glow is, and says that something is wrong. Glow Fish swims from the cave with the shell-o-phone; Georgie cries out happily of the success, then pleads again to be lead from the ink. Finley urges that the recovery party take the shell-o-phone back to Minerva as quickly as possible; he takes the shell-o-phone from Glow Fish. Doc endorses this idea, and then asks if Glow Fish is okay. Dan says that Finley and Georgie should take the shell-o-phone while some of the recovery stay behind to keep the Baron and Trigger in check. Finley and Georgie swim away. Glow Fish collapses. Doc says that the thin water and the effort of carrying the shell-o-phone have brought on acute anoxia. Dan cradles Glow Fish in his hands, and says that he must be returned to the Bottomless Pit as soon as is possible. Doc agrees, but frets that they may not be able to do so in time to save Glow Fish. Dan and Doc head for the Bottomless Pit, Dan carrying the dying Glow Fish.
1961
On the way to the Bottomless Pit, Diver Dan inadvisedly pauses to tell Doc Sturgeon that Glow Fish is dying from the strains of recovering the shell-o-phone in shallower depths than those to which he is used. Dan holds up Glow Fish and asks Doc how long Glow Fish can last. Doc says that this will depend upon how quickly Glow Fish can be returned to the Bottomless Pit, and sighs that they must hurry. Dan continues the journey. They find their way to the sign-post seen in the previous episode. Dan expresses surprise at its presence; Doc explains that Scout Fish has placed the signs because it is easy to get lost and there are many surrounding dangers. Dan declares that the Bottomless Pit is just ahead (though the sign seems to indicate only direction and not distance), and calls for Doc to come with him. Doc expresses the hope that they will be in time. Baron Barracuda and Trigger Fish have been observing them. The Baron tells Trigger that they should be alert, as they will have a chance for revenge; they swim to the sign-post. Dan and Doc continue, eventually reaching the Bottomless Pit, which Doc identifies as such to Dan. Doc reports that Glow Fish lives three-quarters of the way down, and tells Dan to drop the Glow Fish into the Pit, that the pressure will restore him. Dan expresses hope, and says good bye as he releases him into the Pit. Glow Fish sinks as Dan and Doc watch. Glow Fish appears visibly to improve as he reaches the level at which he'd greeted Seabiscuit the Seahorse. Doc expresses relief and satisfaction. Baron Barracuda bumps into the sign-post, and demands to know why Trigger did not watch where the Baron was going. Trigger protests B-b-b-b-but I don't know where we're going!, which inspires the Baron. He directs Trigger to join him in rotating the signs so that Dan will never find his way back. They push the signs so that the sign which showed the direction to Minerva's Palace now points in the direction of the Teetering Rock. Dan and Doc continue to watch the apparent recovery of Glow Fish. Doc expresses continued optimism, as Glow Fish begins to swim. With Glow Fish on the mend, Doc urges that they go to Miss Minerva's place, to end the worries of the others. Dan agrees, but then is signaled to prepare for ascent. He requests a few more minutes from the Captain, and this time is granted. Dan tells Doc that he is anxious to meet the mermaid and to put the minds of the others at rest. Doc says that they should return to the sign-post and take-up the path from there. As the Baron and Trigger watch from hiding, Dan and Doc return to the sign-post. As Dan, reading the sign, says that they must go in the direction shown for Minerva's Palace, Doc remarks that they must take care not to go in the direction of the Teetering Rock, as it is very dangerous. Dan declares that he has little time and hopes that the Palace is close; Doc assures him that it must be. Trigger praises the Baron's plan, and the Baron expresses his gloating.

Diver Dan and Doc Sturgeon are before Teetering Rock. Dan cries to Doc to look out; Doc cries for help. Dan asks what has happened; Doc says that Teetering Rock has tottered and then stopped. Inspection shows that Ozzie the Oyster is at the base of the Rock, and that his hard shell has checked its teetering. Dan urges Doc to see whether Ozzie is injured; when Doc asks Ozzie to say Ah!, Ozzie frustrates and concerns Doc by instead mumbling through a shell that can barely be opened. Doc tells Dan to push the Rock back. Unseen by Dan or by Doc, Baron Barracuda demands to know why Trigger Fish didn't tell the Baron of Ozzie's blocking presence; Trigger explains that he wasn't asked. Dan says that he is unable to push the Rock off Ozzie. Doc tells Dan to rest, and expresses hope that Ozzie's pearl isn't damaged. Queried by Dan, Doc reports that Ozzie's pearl is as large as a turtle egg, the largest of all pearls. Ozzie mumbles apparent confirmation. Dan remarks that it would then be the most valuable in the world. Doc asks if Dan holds everything valuable, reminding Dan that he also has claimed that the gold on the ship of Skipper Kipper is valuable. The Baron overhears the conversation, and tells Trigger that if Dan wants the pearl, then the Baron wants it as well. Trigger asks how they might get it; the Baron says that he will find a method. Dan makes another try to push the Rock, then says that he will apparently not be able to do so with brute strength. Doc notes that someone has pushed it; Dan says that it was probably the Baron and Trigger. Doc asks why, then, cannot Dan push it back. Dan admits that he doesn't know. The Baron wickedly laughs that he knows the secret of Teetering Rock. Doc says that he will go for his bag. As he swims off, Dan asks Doc to find Finley. When Doc reaches the sign-post, he encounters and hails both Finley Haddock and Seabiscuit the Seahorse. Finley expresses relief that Doc is safe, and asks about Diver Dan. Doc says that Dan is fine but unable to free Ozzie the Oyster, who is trapped under Teetering Rock. Doc says that he is going for his bag, and asks Finley to go to Teetering Rock to assist Dan. Finley declares that he is on his way. Finley and Seabiscuit swimming together. Dan pushes futilely on the Rock. Then declares his inability to move the Rock. Finley arrives with Seabiscuit at that point. Finley lets Dan know that Doc has apprised him of the situation. Finley asks Ozzie if he is alright; Ozzie mumbles in response. Finley reassures Ozzie that he will soon be freed. Finley swims towards the top of the Rock, saying that the Rock must have some point at which it may be pushed to restore it to its earlier position. He finds the point, and is then easily able to push the Rock back into place. The Baron vents frustration at again being foiled. Trigger's attempts to console him are met with anger. The two swim away. Taking Ozzie from beneath the Rock, Dan says that he cannot wait to see the pearl. In conversation, he asserts to Finley that the pearl being the largest is the most valuable. Dan sets Ozzie in a safer place; Finley asks Ozzie to open and show his pearl to Dan. Ozzie does so, and it is indeed large. The Baron and Trigger, meanwhile, have swum to where they may spy on Dan's party. Trigger excitedly tells the Baron that he sees the pearl. The Baron silences Trigger, but Finley reports that he has heard something which he thinks might be the Baron and Trigger; Finley asks Dan what they should do. Dan notes that the two may be after the pearl too. He tells Finley and Seabiscuit that he has a plan that involves pretending to leave Ozzie behind. He asks for their support; Seabiscuit whinnies in the affirmative, and Finley agrees. Dan loudly announces to Finley that they must leave him but will return in about an hour. After the three have apparently left, Trigger and the Baron approach. Trigger greets Ozzie, who closes his shell. Trigger attempts jocular banter; the Baron tells him to proceed without jokes. Trigger attempts to coax Ozzie into opening up and showing his pearl.
