- In 1661 Mexico, the Baron Vitelius of Astara is sentenced to be burned alive by the Holy Inquisition of Mexico for witchcraft, necromancy, and other crimes. As he dies, the Baron swears vengeance against the descendants of the Inquisitors. 300 years later, a comet which was passing overhead on the night of the Baron's execution returns to earth, bringing with it the Baron in the form of a horrible, brain-eating monster that terrorizes the Inquisitor's descendants.—Jeremy Lunt <durlinlunt@acadia.net>
- In 1661, in Mexico, the Inquisition sentences the Baron Vitelius d'Estera to be burned at the stake for witchcraft, necromancy and seduction of wives and damsels of the lords. He is unsuccessfully defended by the noble Marcos Miranda. The Baron curses the descendants of the four Inquisitors - Indalecio Pantoja, Baltasar de Meneses, Reinaldo Miranda and Contreras - promising that he will return in three hundred years to eliminate them while a comet passes in the sky. In 1961, the astronomer Prof. Saturnino Millán sees the passage of a comet with his assistants Reinaldo Miranda and Victoria Contreras in the sky of Mexico. The comet brings Baron Vitelius d'Estera in the form of a brain eater monster. When the baron finds Sebastián de Pantoja, Luis Meneses, Marcos Miranda and Victoria Contreras, who are descendants of the Inquisitors, his vengeance begins.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Opening in 1661, Baron Vitelius d'Estera (Abel Salazar) is being put on trial by the Grand Inquisitors of Mexico. They claim he has used witchcraft, necromancy, seduced maidens, and a number of other items. It is even mentioned that they attempted to torture the Baron for previous acts, but he survived the torment without any repentance, leading to the current trial.
After the reading of the charges, the inquisitors are incensed when a man named Marcos Miranda (Ruben Rojo) steps forward to defend the Baron, claiming him to be an honorable man. However, the Inquisitors claim Miranda is lying, and sentence him to be whipped.
A few moments later, the men pass judgment, claiming the Baron's lands and possessions will be confiscated by the church, and he is to be burned alive. The baron claims he will comply willingly, but is able to use some sort of magic to remove his shackles, and walk out of the room.
The Baron is next seen on a pyre in a field. A number of villagers (and even Marcos) are in attendance, as the pyre is lit. The Baron does not seem to feel the heat of the flames, but merely glances skyward, as a comet can be seen.
As the flames climb higher, the Baron calls out each of the Inquisitors by name, claiming that when the comet overhead returns in 300 years, he will destroy the men's descendants.
We cut to 300 years later, where Reynaldo Miranda (Ruben Rojo) and his girlfriend Victoria Contretas (Rosa María Gallardo) are meeting with Professor Saturnino Millan (Luis Aragon) to observe a comet through the local observatory. Eventually, the three locate the comet in the night sky, but Reynaldo and Victoria note something strange about it, and go off to investigate.
unseen to them, the comet has dropped from the sky, and landed as a large meteorite in a field. A man in a car investigates, but as he watches, the meteorite disappears, and a strange creature emerges. It grabs the man, and it's long forked tongue hits the back of his neck, and the man goes down. After this, it is revealed that this creature is Vitelius d'Estera. After taking the man's clothes, he soon encounters Reynaldo and Miranda. When the conversation turns to the comet, the Baron mentions how astronomy and science are two things he excels at, and the young couple eagerly invite him to call on them and their friend, Professor Millan.
After the encounter, the Baron materializes in a restaurant. There, he quietly observes a drunk woman, before turning into his creature form, and using his forked tongue on her.
The next day, a coroner shows the body of the man in the forest, and the woman at the bar, to the Chief Detective (David Silva) and his associate (Federico Curiel). They find that both have two holes in the back of their neck, and that their brains have supposedly been sucked out through these openings. This puzzles the Chief Detective, but his only thought is maybe it was some sort of "maniac."
Later on that day, the Baron finds information on the Inquisitors, and begins to work on tracking down their offspring. He also sucks the brains out of a streetwalker, leading the Chief and his assistance to grow more alarmed.
Meanwhile, back at the observatory, Professor Millan is incensed that though he and his young friends observed the comet, a number of his colleagues from around the world have claimed they have not seen it! However, the mood is lightened when he, Reynaldo, and Victoria receive an invitation to a party that Baron Vitelius d'Estera is throwing.
The party it turns out, is a cover for the Baron, who has also invited the descendants of the Inquisitors, of which Reynaldo and Victoria are. Up until this point, none of the guests have any knowledge about whom the Baron is, but by the end of the evening, almost everyone is enthralled with his company. During a lull in the conversation, the Baron walks off to "take his medicine," but it actually appears that he has stored the brains of his past victims in a bowl, and is consuming them a little at a time to keep his strength.
After the party, the Baron calls upon one of the descendants, Indalecio Pentoja (German Robles) . During their conversation, the Baron is informed about Indalecio's fascination with the Inquisition, and also meets Indalecio's daughter, Maria (Roxana Bellini). As they look over some of the Inquisition texts, Indalecio notes a passage that mentions a name similar to the Baron's, causing the Baron to claim Indalecio's ancestor Sebastian de Pentoja was one of the men responsible for his death. The Baron then turns into his creature self, killing Indalecio and his daughter, sucking their brains out, and then setting their home on fire.
Next, the Baron calls upon Luis Meneses (René Cardona), who is the descendant of Baltasar de Meneses. the Baron claims he can help Luis develop new and better alloys to help his company, when suddenly, Luis Meneses freezes in place, due to the Baron's powers. He then attacks Meneses' wife (Ofelia Guilmáin) and sucks her brains out. Next, the Baron uses his powers, to have Luis walk over to one of his live furnaces, and immolate himself.
The recent deaths have also brought the Chief Detective and his associate to the Baron's place, given the two recently-deceased couples were seen there last. The Baron claims he has no information to give the two, and they leave.
Shortly after the encounter, the Baron is witness to the wedding of Francisco Coria (Carlos Nieto), and Ana Luisa del Vivar (Magda Urvizu). Later on that evening, the Baron shows up at their home, where he murders Francisco in the bathtub, and then kills Ana Luisa, whose Inquisitor ancestor was Álvaro de Contreras (Marco Antonio Arzate).
Shortly afterwards, the Inspector and his assistant do some additional investigating...and begin to see links between those that were murdered, and had ancestors associated with the Grand Inquisitors of the past (how the Inspector came to this conclusion, we're never told). They eventually call on Professor Milan, to find out the whereabouts of Reynaldo and Victoria. After the Professor tells the two men that the young couple are at the Baron's for dinner, leading the two to head back to headquarters, before going to the Baron's.
Meanwhile, the dinner is over, and the Baron requests Victoria come to his room to select a jewel, as she and Reynaldo are planning to be married soon.
As they are taking awhile, Reynaldo begins looking around the Baron's main living area, and finds his dish with the brains in it!
Meanwhile, the Baron confesses to Victoria who he is, and that though it pains him to do so, he must kill her since her ancestor Álvaro de Contreras ordered his execution.
Victoria bolts for the room into Reynaldo's arms, but the Baron, now transformed into his creature form gives chase. He also lays claim that Reynaldo's ancestor was Marcos Miranda, who defended him against the Inquisitors, and as such, he is willing to let Reynaldo live.
It is at this time that the Inspector and his associate show up with flamethrowers, burning the Baron in his creature form, and eventually, killing him. Thus, the reign of terror is over.
