In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at To Live and Shave in L.A's The Plot That Failed, directed by Doris Wishman. Noise rock musician Tom Smith was buying a sex toy for his girlfriend when he recognized the woman who sold him the erotic device: none other than Doris Wishman. The infamous director of sexploitation fare like Double Agent 73, Let Me Die a Woman, Bad Girls Go To Hell and Nude on the Moon had fallen on hard times and was now living in Miami and working at 'The Pink Pussycat', a sex shop. The first thing she asked Tom Smith was if he could loan her some money...

It's already started! Look lively! The To Save and Project festival of film preservation at New York's Museum of Modern Art offers a typically eclectic range of films, fiction, documentary and experimental, united in their importance and the fact that they've recently been restored and preserved. Think you've seen Murnau's Faust (1926)? Both versions? (Every shot was filmed with two cameras to provide two negatives.) Well, what about this new restoration, which incorporates never-before-seen intertitles in verse written for the film but removed before release due to the scenarist's objections?Other films are far less familiar. George Griffin explores the history and philosophy of animation in Lineage (1979), a mixed-media mini-masterpiece that moves from scribbles on celluloid through line animation to manipulated live action shots and early computer graphics. The visuals never stoop to merely illustrating the voice-over, nor do they distract from it. Instead they take wing, riffing on the ideas and having fun.

I have been following the career of exploitation filmmaker Jared Masters for quite awhile now, and he seems to be on a real roll, because earlier this year I wrote that Deadly Punkettes was his best film to date, but just over six months later I have to revise that statement. Club Lingerie is Jared Masters' best film.
Jared Masters is a filmmaker whose work is inspired by the nudie cutie movies of the late sixties and early seventies, and most heavily inspired by the work of Doris Wishman. The Director once told me that Wishman's film Nude on the Moon is the movie that first made him want to become a filmmaker.
What makes Masters' films stand out from the glut of exploitation themed cinema we are currently experiencing is a deep love for the genre, knowledge of its history, and a...

The makers of the Twilight line of toys at Neca have teamed with MTV to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the coming line of dolls for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and, in discussing the line-up, they revealed the company's plans for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Namely, they revealed a plan to bring some more of the Twilight series ladies into play, including "Rosalie" and "Victoria." "We're really getting deeper into the breadth of the characters," Neca's spokesperson states. Note that the New Moon dolls included in the line are two versions of Edward (one sparkly and one non-sparkly), a shirtless Jacob, and Jasper. So, here's a question. Since Neca is clearly trying t ...
