The Battle of Bosworth is made up of stock footage from the original Universal version of Tower of London (1939).
Vincent Price appeared as the Duke of Clarence in the original version released by Universal Pictures' Tower of London (1939).
Producer Gene Corman and writer Leo Gordon thought that the public was wearying of the Edgar Allan Poe / Vincent Price franchise and tried to get away from the iconic author. They discussed doing one of the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne before settling on William Shakespeare. They considered "Macbeth" before settling on "Richard III."
This film was originally planned to be shot in color. On the Thursday before the Monday start of principal photography, uncredited executive producer Edward Small informed producer Gene Corman that it was going to be shot in black and white. According to Gene Corman box office take was initially good, but when word-of-mouth got out that it was in black-and-white, business dropped off.
The original tag line "Do you have the courage to spend 83 minutes in the Tower of London?" was slightly off, since the film's running time was only 79 minutes.
