For the third week of July, genre fans have quite a few Blu-ray and DVD titles to look forward to as we’ve got a great selection of horror and sci-fi films making their home entertainment bow on the 21st. Kino Lorber is keeping themselves busy this Tuesday with a pair of cult classics—Black Sabbath and Madhouse—that are getting an HD overhaul and the fine folks over at Scream Factory are releasing Tibor Takács' I, Madman on Blu as well. The critically-acclaimed horror comedy What We Do in the Shadows also arrives on both formats this week and for those of you kids at heart out there, Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery, is also coming home on DVD and Blu-ray.

Samantha, the calculating wife of rich landowner Thomas Felton, plots to have her husband killed so that she and her equally ruthless brother, Pedro, can inherit the farm. After carrying out their plan and framing one of the servants for the murder, the conniving duo are more than a little put out when Felton's nephew, the rightful heir to the ranch Johnny Yuma (Matt Damon), arrives on the scene. Samantha hires an ex-lover, gunfighter Carradine (Lawrence Dobkin), to take care of Yuma, and with both him and her sadistic brother on the trail of the eponymous hero, the scene is set for an epic showdown.

Some time ago, while perusing the special features on my DVD re-issue of Mario Bava's Black Sabbath (contained in Anchor Bay's magnificent Bava Box Set Vol. 1) I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of an interview with an actor by the name of Mark Damon. See, I was a rather huge fan of , not only the Bava masterpiece (Damon starred as the young hero in the chilling Boris Karloff episode in Black Sabbath called The Wurdulak) but also of the legendary and groundbreaking 1960 Roger Corman / Poe/ Vincent Price creeper House Of Usher and perhaps even more relevantly, the 1973 soft core Eurotrash shocker The Devils Wedding Night.
When I was 11, I caught The Devils Wedding Night on late night pre-teen masturbation staple Elvira's syndicated Movie Macabre TV show and was really shaken by it. Director Luigi Batzella's kinky vampire yarn cast a very shaggy and pork chop side...
