Wynne Kinch (Jenny Agutter) was adopted. She had been raised by her mother, but at some stage prior to seven, still old enough to know about what was happening, she was put up for adoption and taken into a loving family with two considerably older brothers. Of the brothers, George (Bryan Marshall) is her favourite, and now, at the age of fourteen, Wynne's familial love is turning into lust and obsession. Denying that it is incest because she was adopted, Wynne feels completely justified in having these unrequited feelings towards her thirty-two year old brother.
The family live in a new high-rise block in Bracknell, Berkshire. Everything around her is either white or concrete, and all of it new, yet she still yearns to spend time in their old home: a large, crumbling farmhouse on the other side of the park.

With Lovecraft Country finishing its acclaimed first season, you may be looking to fill that new gap in your viewing schedule with more content based on or inspired by the works of the enigmatic author from Providence, Rhode Island.
Let’s get one thing clear upfront: Howard Phillips Lovecraft was very much a product of his time and upbringing, and his views on race, ethnicity, and class — while commonplace for where and when he lived — were truly noxious, an aspect of his legacy that Lovecraft Country addresses in its own themes. But it’s also clear that Lovecraft was arguably the most influential horror writer of the 20th century, with a reach that extends to this day.
While there have been a number of movies based directly on stories by Lovecraft — including titles like Die, Monster, Die! (1965), The Dunwich Horror (1970), Re-Animator (1985) and its sequels, From Beyond (1986), Dagon (2001), The Whisperer in Darkness...

The television landscape is overflowing with failed pilots; those poor souls who try to go to series, but are forever doomed to perish in the eternal hellfire of the forgotten. (And YouTube.) Sometimes the shows are not picked up for financial reasons, and sometimes they just give off a "hell No" vibe that even TV executives can’t miss. And then you have Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek’s mastermind, who by the mid-’70s produced failed pilot after failed pilot. His last try before the impending Trek-aissance was Spectre (1977), a very well-made Satanic Panic meets Sherlock Holmes proposal that promised a lot of ghoulish fun had it been picked up. As is, it’s a groovy (and randy) time capsule of an era when the Devil had his share of air time.

The writing’s been on the wall for some time, but just for the heck of it, let’s make it official: Scream Queens will not return for a third season on Fox.

“We won’t be seeing Scream Queens this season,” Fox Television Group CEO Gary Newman told reporters Monday. “Scream Queens was an anthological series. Ryan [Murphy] told the story of the group of characters he created over the course of the two seasons. It feels as if it was a complete story.

With the conclusion of Scream Queens Season 2 Episode 10, another season of Scream Queens is behind us – or, should I say, at the bottom of the hospital's swamp.
The final installment of the season wrapped up the story and dispatched of many of the show's newly-introduced disposable characters, much as we expected leaving off at Scream Queens Season 2 Episode 9.
All in all, "Drain the Swamp" was an enjoyable, if slightly predictable, cap to the second season that definitely had its memorable moments.
The resolution of Nurse Hoffel's and Cassidy's stories went exactly as I'd imagined them. Like, to a T. I'd predicted that both Agatha Bean's sis and the "baby in the belly" wouldn't make it out of this season alive, and that's exactly what happened.
Kirstie Alley was wonderful as the increasingly unhinged, pill-popping Nurse Hoffel this season, an excellent adversary to the Chanels and to Dean Munsch.

Why mess with a proven formula?
Scream Queens Season 2 Episode 6 confirmed what we'd all expected – that the murder mystery at the heart of Scream Queen Season 2 is an almost-exact mirror of Scream Queens Season 1's Red Devil set-up.
Of course, the Green Meanie(s) one-upped the Red Devil(s), in a totally literal sense – there are actually three Green Meanies, as opposed to two Red Devils. Gasp.
There was a lot of fun campiness to enjoy on "Blood Drive." For starters, we learned a lot more about Nurse Hoffel, and it finally put her seemingly-irrational hatred of the Chanels into perspective.
Nurse Ingrid Marie Hoffel is actually Ingrid Marie Bean – the late Agatha Bean's sister! Twist.
Hoffel was my first husband's name. Howard Hoffel. He died. Cancer, I think -- we weren't close. My maiden name might sound familiar -- Bean. Agatha Bean was my sister. Agatha wasn't smart. I...

As a horror fan, sometimes you just want to wade in the waters of the absurd and inane. To bath in the bathetic, and wash in the ridiculous. If you’re up for a swim, throw on your trunks and join me for Herbert J. Leder’s It! (1967), a modern retelling of the Golem legend dry humped by Psycho. And if that description piques your interest, take the plunge with me, won’t you?
Produced by Seven Arts Pictures and distributed by Warner Brothers/Seven Arts, It! was released in the UK (where it was filmed) in July of ’67 followed by the U.S. in November. Frequently paired with Leder’s previous film, The Frozen Dead (’66), the U.S. print of It! was in black and white, as opposed to the glorious Eastmancolour on display and as intended. Scream Factory's new double feature disc finishes off two different American-International horror series. The first picture is the last fright film made for the company by the directing and writing team of Gordon Hessler and Christopher Wicking. It's no gem, but it's a lot more interesting on a second viewing. The second is the company's final try to make that old joker H.P. Lovecraft into a filmic horror icon, like Edgar Allan Poe. It has a lot going for it, but also its own set of problems.

We're sad to report that celebrated Filipino filmmaker Eddie Romero, best known among horror & exploitation fans for the “Blood Island” horror film series and his work with Roger Corman on several Philippines-based movies, passed away yesterday at 88. According to his son, Romero had been hospitalized for much of this month and lapsed into a coma shortly before his death. Romero was a highly honored filmmaker in the Philippines, and was awarded the title of National Artist for Cinema and Broadcast Arts in 2003. Over a sixty-year career, he has directed many acclaimed films in his native country, but fans of vintage horror and exploitation cinema remember him most fondly for the gory “Blood Island” series, which began with the surprise hit Mad Doctor of Blood Island in 1968, and included the sequels Beast of Blood and Brides of Blood; he's also noted for his '70s film collaborations with B-movie icon Roger Corman,...

Prolific Filipino exploitation king Eddie Romero takes a break from his Blood Island and girls-in-chains movies to try his hand at a pseudo-family oriented aquatic fantasy. It’s still squarely aimed at the drive-in trade, but it’s much less raunchy than the usual tropical action dualler. Makes a nice double bill with Romero’s similar Twilight People, made earlier the same year, also for Corman competitor Dimension Pictures.

In The Pirates! Band Of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side, and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

It’s hard to believe that it has been seven years since Aardman Animations delivered the delightful stop-motion feature Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Their long-awaited return to the field, under the direction of Peter Lord, is ultimately a disappointing experience that leaves one thoroughly underwhelmed. With such potential, it is a great shame that this film lacks the life and soul one might expect from this team.
The story centers on the aptly-named Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant), who is desperate to win the coveted Pirate of the Year award. However, his peers outshine him greatly, and he is the laughing stock of the pirating community. Now that The Hunger Games is a success, the movie has become a certifiable target for spoofs, riffs, and parodies. This time The Pirates! Band of Misfits is the latest movie to poke fun at the success of The Hunger Games with a brand new trailer.
The trailer puts a spin on the annual Hunger Games bit, by turning it into the 74th Annual Pirate Games. As much of a fan of stop motion animation as I am, I found this movie trailer to be a bit lazy. Maybe its because its coming off the heels of The Muppets parody trailer of The Hunger Games or maybe its because parody trailers are slowly becoming a tiresome trend, its just that I couldn’t laugh as much as I would like to at this parody trailer.

New featurette from The Pirates! Band of Misfits with Hugh Grant on the comedy. Opening in theaters in 3D on April 27th, the Sony Pictures animated pic helmed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt looks hysterical, and one for Aardman fans not to miss. In The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London.

I always had the idea in my head that Aardman was the British version of the Disney owned Pixar Animation Studios; the main idea being that the place is a hive of activity and now, after having the privilege of visiting both studios, I can confirm that I was 100% right!
A couple of weeks ago, I headed off to Bristol in the West of England to visit a place oozing with creativity and a dedication to work in a way that has never been done before. As I’d been to Pixar previously, I was expecting the UK equivalent for Aardman; a purpose built building with all the trimmings but instead, I arrived and saw a rather drab looking 30 000 square foot warehouse! It was later explained to us that this building isn’t ‘Aardman’ but was acquired when they began making Chicken Run back in 1997 and the moral of the...

[1] You'd be forgiven for suffering from pirate fatigue after this year's lackluster fourth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but these delightful trailers for Aardman Animation's The Pirates! Band of Misfits prove there's still plenty of fun to be found on the high seas. Directed by Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt, the stop motion adventure follows an eager but misguided Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) as he competes for the Pirate of the Year Award -- because, as he explains, "Every time I've entered, I've failed to win. So, I must have a really good chance this time." Along the way, he and his similarly off-kilter crew (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, Ashley Jensen, and a fish with a hat on it) encounter all manner of strange characters including lepers, stuffy scientists, an evil queen (Imelda Staunton), and at least one monkey butler. Watch the trailer after the jump.

We’ve already had a new trailer for Pixar’s Brave today and now the mighty Aardman have unveiled another look at their forthcoming film The Pirates! Band of Misfits (or The Pirates! In an adventure with Scientists if you’re hailing from the good old U of, um, K…) and it’s just wonderful.
Dave was lucky enough to visit Aardman yesterday and it was, in his words, better than stepping into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and everything we’ve seen so far for this film points to a grand adventure with a fantastic cast including Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Martin Freeman, Jeremy Piven.

We’ve already got three fairly lengthy trailers for the next film from Aardman animation, the studio that brought us Chicken Run and the Wallace & Gromit movie, but this new domestic trailer is the most impressive yet. Can you resist the grinning appeal of a new claymation animated film from Aardman Animation? I'm not certain that I can, if the first trailer [1] for The Pirates! Band of Misfits is any indication. The film adapts Gideon Defoe‘s book The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists -- a loopy tale of high-seas misadventure and scientfic discovery -- with a vocal cast that includesHugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen. Here's a new UK trailer for the film, which bears the original subtitle 'In an Adventure With Scientists,' and pushes the overall story structure more than the last Us trailer, but keeps the levels of charm and appeal as high as the crow's nest. Thanks to Empire [2] for the trailer. I'll admit that I liked the first Us trailer just a bit more, but...

When it comes to animation, anything from the Aardman group (who gave us Chicken Run and the Wallace & Gromit movies) is a breath of fresh air.
