Pier Angeli requested that this movie be released in America only if the infamous threesome scene was removed. It remained in the American print and was the primary reason for receiving an X rating when it was released (as "Love Me, Love My Wife") there in 1971. It was a huge source of embarrassment to her towards the end of her life, but because her agreement with the producers was a verbal one that they chose not to honor, Pier had no legal recourse to halt the film's American distribution.
