Sally Kirkland said she was comfortable shooting the nude and erotic scenes with Rip Torn because they had dated previously, so they had already seen each other naked and had sex. The only difference is they had a cameraman and crew watching them this time. But she said Torn wasn't shy and she was used to being naked in front of people after performing naked on stage and in the movie Futz, which she filmed just before this one.
Received an X rating when it was released.
When the New York Times asked her why she gets naked on stage and onscreen so much, Sally Kirkland replied, "Look, you can't carry a gun on a naked body. I'm opposed to the war in Vietnam." That was very real. So it was all about tearing down the establishment. My mother was the establishment. She was telling people to put clothes on. I was telling them to take them off."
