- The December 2002 broadcast on a Canadian TV network was truncated. The sequence surrounding the lyric "He led them down the streets of town right to a traffic cop" was cut, with the cartoon fading out just before the cop appears and then fading up with Frosty already arrived at the train station.
- In the original airing, June Foray provided the voices of Karen and the other children. Starting with the third airing, most of Foray's recordings as Karen and the children were replaced with child voice actors.
- The 2018 Universal DVD and Blu-ray releases add the 2013 Universal Pictures logo to the start of the program.
- On post-2010 DVD releases besides the 2010 Christmas Classics Collection box set, as well as the digital releases and Freeform airings, the special uses an early "workprint" version which results in drastic changes:
- The "Rankin/Bass Present" credit at the beginning was removed.
- The orchestra in the opening scene is slightly different.
- Some of the sound effects are more in sync.
- Specific sound effects are removed or altered, such as the children's laughter at the start, Hocus falling out of the hat when Karen picks it up, the squirrel laughing at Hinkle when he crashes, and when Frosty opens the door to the greenhouse.
- The redheaded boy's line, "Yeah, Frosty it is! Frosty the Snowman!" was said by June Foray's demo track.
- The music score is lowered a bit in volume in most spots, and sometimes comes in one half a second early.
- After Frosty says, "Let's have a parade!", the children's cheering of "Yay! We're going to the railroad train!" is more audible.
